Herbert Gilliard, 62, 20 Bernard St., died July 8, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East. He was born in Charleston, S.C., and he had resided here for 21 years. He was a retired commercial fisherman, and he was a member of Dawson Chapel CME Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dawson Chapel CME Church, with the Rev. C.C. Bell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Chase and Son Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of services.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; daughters, Gracita Tolbert, Denise Ofide, St. Augustine; sons, Calvin, New Smyrna Beach, Anthony, Bryan and Victory, St. Augustine, Julius, Hastings; sisters, Mae Singleton, New York City, Cecola Scott, Gadsden, S.C., Delia and Mary Washington, Charleston; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other relatives.

A memorial mass for Brenda Joyce Rye, 52, who died July 3, 1997, following an extended illness, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, in her memory, to a favorite charity.
August Zinn
August Zinn, 78, died July 8, 1997, in the Earl B. Hadlow Center, Jacksonville. He was born in New York City, and he spent his retirement years in St. Augustine. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II, and he was an engineer in the heavy construction industry. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, American Legion and the Moose Lodge.

Robert Gilliam Daniel
Hastings resident Robert Gilliam Daniel died July 9 at University Medical Center, Jacksonville, from injuries sustained in a pedestrian-vehicle accident. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Coleman's Mortuary, Hastings.
Maureen Napershey
Maureen Elizabeth Napershey, 78, St. Augustine, died July 10, 1997, at the home of her daughter. She was born in Flint, Mich., and she had lived here since 1994. She was the wife of the late Paul H. Napershey and a member Memorial Lutheran Church. She was very active in the Moultrie Oaks Clubhouse Association. She was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge in West Branch, Mich.
Funeral service will be in Clarkston, Mich., with the Lewis Flint Funeral Home in charge. Burial will be in Flint Memorial Park.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Tracy (Marilyn) Bishop, St. Augustine, Mrs. Harry (Janet T.) White, and Carol Arthur, both of Clarkston, Mich.; a sister, Janice Markland, Grand Blanc, Mich.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Frances Sarna
Frances E. Sarna, 69, St. Augustine, died July 9, 1997, at Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights, Ill. She was born in Gary, W.Va., and had lived in St. Augustine since 1976. She was a former member of the Marine Corps Auxiliary League, and she was of the Catholic faith.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Craig Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park. Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
She is survived by her son, Mark Sarna, Tinley Park, Ill.; two sisters, Josephine Nunchuck, St. Augustine, Mitzi Sczinski, Villa Park, Ill.; a brother, Adam Needles, Dolton, Ill.; and one granddaughter.
Gerry Witt
Gerry H. Witt, 81, St. Augustine, died July 11, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born in East Prussia, and he moved here from Chicago in 1976. He was a purchasing agent for The Tribune in Chicago. He as a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Riverview Club and the Disabled American Veterans.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Memorial Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kerry Hinkley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Witt, St. Augustine; two daughters, Jeanie Witt and Lynda Robinette, both of Chicago; a brother, Al Witt, Escandido, Calif.; and two grandsons.

Melba Martha Hauser, 98, a former resident of Coral Landing, died July 13, 1997, at the Ponce de Leon Care Center. She was born in New York City, and she had resided here for the past seven years. She was the treasurer, for many years, for the Sunswept Auxiliary to Barracks No. 3493, Veterans of War World II.

Clara Mae Bailey, 53, 1108 W. King St. Extension, died July 14, 1997, at her home. She was a longtime employee of the Monson Bayfront Resort.

William Duhon
William (Pete) Duhon Sr., 76, St. Augustine, died July 13, 1997, at Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Lake Arthur, La., and he had resided here since 1942. He was a graduate of North Texas State Teachers College, Denton, earning a B.S. degree, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed in St. Augustine until he was discharged in 1945. He joined the city of St. Augustine Police Department in Jan. 1946, retiring with the rank of lieutenant after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Florida Peace Officers Association and had also served as manager of the St. Augustine City Employee Credit Union. He was of the Catholic faith.

Janice Mae Falana, 56, 1875 Carter Road, died July 14, 1997, in Flagler Hospital West. She was a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, and she was a member of the Church of Christ.

Jennifer Lynette Gainey, 27, Troy, N.C., died July 2, 1997, in New York City. She was born in St. Augustine, and she attended Webster Elementary and Hastings High schools. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness church here, and joined Covington Missionary Baptist Church in Troy.
Funeral services and burial were in Troy.
Survivors include her husband, Perry Gainey Jr., three daughters, Bertha Gainey, Troy, Shelia and Elaina Pouncey, St. Augustine; one son, Anthony Padilla, St. Augustine; her mother, Patricia Prevatt, father, Dallas Hazen, a brother, Dallas Hazen Jr., one sister, Susan Hastings, all of St. Augustine; and her grandparents, R.F. and Ilene Johns, St. Augustine.
Robert Gilliam
Robert (Rake Man) Gilliam, 66, 613 Hannah St., died July 9, 1997, at University Medical Center, Jacksonville, from injuries sustained in an accident. He was a migrant worker, and he was a self-employed yard keeper.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church, Nashville, Ga. Burial will follow in Empire Baptist Church Cemetery.

Clara Mae Bailey, 53, 1108 W. King St. Extension, died July 14, 1997, at her home, following an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, and she was a graduate of Richard J. Murray High School Class of 1962. She was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, serving on the senior choir and as a trustee and a member of Usher Board No. 2 and of the Choir Guild of St. Augustine. She was employed by the Monson Motor Lodge for more than 30 years.
