Jessie James Ford, 70, St. Augustine, died Dec. 17, 1997, at his home. He was born in Sumner, Fla., and he had resided here for the past 32 years. He was a retired forest ranger with the Division of Forestry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and he was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ford, St. Augustine; and two daughters, Ann Anderson, Chesterville, Va., Joanne Tubbs, Hollywood, Ala.
Private services are planned. Craig Funeral Home is in charge.

Lois Manucy
Funeral services for Lois Carolyn Manucy, 75, St. Augustine, who died Dec. 15, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home, with Brother J.O. McLeod, evangelist, officiating. Burial will be in San Lorenzo Cemetery. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Herbert Meeks
Herbert Joseph Meeks, 50, St. Augustine, died Dec. 15, 1997. He was a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, and he was a member of San Sebastian Catholic Church. He was a carpenter at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at San Sebastian Catholic Church, with the Rev. Peter Colasurdo, pastor, and the Rev. Rene Robert officiating. Burial will be in San Lorenzo Cemetery. Prayers will be said at 5:15 p.m. Friday at Craig Funeral Home chapel. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Meeks; one daughter, Laura Stratton; a son, Kevin Meeks; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Edeleen) Meeks; two stepdaughters, Rebecca Colvin, Lisa McKinnon; one stepson, Samuel (Sammy) McKinnon; a sister, Anita Burrell; and four grandchildren. All reside in St. Augustine.

Patricia Peacock
Patricia Ann "Trish" Paul Peacock, 38, St. Augustine, died Dec. 14, 1997, in St. Augustine. She was born in Sarasota, and she had resided here since May. She was a wholesale food representative for Ancient City Produce.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined, and those wishing may make a donation, in her memory, to the Gideons, POB 2205, St. Augustine, 32085.
Survivors include her mother, Ann R. Kitay, Longview, Texas; her father, Gary B. Murphy, Victoria, Texas; five sons, Vincent Scherzinger, Cincinnati, Ohio, James T. Paul, Andrew N. Paul, Zachary C. Paul, Sean P. Paul, all of St. Augustine; one sister, Lynn Ann Reeves, Corpus Christi, Texas; and two step-brothers, Ben H. Baker, Victoria, Mark V. Baker, Austin, Texas.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Kay Ghaliyini.

Gladys Griffin
Gladys Bryant Griffin, 72, Bunnell, a former St. Augustine resident, died Dec. 17, 1997, at her home. She was born in St. Joe, Fla., and she had resided in Flagler County for over 20 years. She was a member of St. James Baptist Church, serving on the deaconess board.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church, Bunnell, with the Rev. Willie Hymon officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Palm Coast. Friends may call at the church from 5 to 7 p.m., today, and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the hour of services.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Griffin, Bunnell; daughters, Betty Underwood, Palm Coast, Retta Maddox, Bunnell, Mamie Burke, Daytona Beach, Alfreda Cummings, Doris Williams, Gladena Bryant, Bunnell; sons, Robert Eady, Jacksonville, Calvin Bryant, Eddie Bryant, Bunnell, Sammie Lee Bryant, Palatka, Vernon Bryant, Bunnell; a stepson, Anthony Bryson, St. Augustine; 39 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Virginia Hunter
Virginia M. Hunter, 75, St. Augustine, died Dec. 18, 1997, at her home. Born in Phoenicia, N.Y., she had resided in St. Augustine for 14 years. She was a veteran of World War II, having served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army. She was a Registered Nurse, and she had been an administrator at St. Vincent's Hospital, Staten Island. She was a member of the American Legion and the Professional Women's Club, both in Staten Island.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of the Craig Funeral Home, with the Rev. S. Dwight McQueen, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Survivors include her husband, David Hunter, St. Augustine; two stepsons, David Henry Hunter, Pueblo, Colo., Robert William Hunter, Williston; one sister, Ivy Leonard, Brick, N.J.; several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Fred F. Brecht, 83, St. Augustine, died Dec 29, 1997, at the Mariner Health Care Center. Born in Trenton, N.J., he had resided in St. Augustine for the past year. Prior to moving here, he had lived in Palm Coast, from 1989 to 1996. He was retired from R. Martorella & Company, Inc. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served during World War II. He was a former member of RSVP in Palm Coast, and was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church.
Surviors include a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Compton, St. Augustine, and three granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, at the St. Anastasia Catholic Church with the Rev. Seamus O'Flynn, pastor, officating. Entombment will be in St. John's Cloister in New York. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 5 p.m.

Willie Mitchell Jr.
Willie Mitchell Jr., 74, St. Augustine, died Dec. 18, 1997, at Flagler Hospital West. A lifelong resident , he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended Florida Memorial College where he studied mechanics; was a former cab driver; was owner-operator of Nellie's Inn; and was a former employee of Broudy's Foodway. He was a Mason and member of American Legion Post No. 194.
Surviors include a daughter, Patricia Mitchell; brother, Arthur Mitchell Sr., St. Augustine; three sisters, Lucille Allen, Miami, Annie M. Simms and Fannie M. Youmans, St. Augustine; and other relatives.
Chase and Son Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary J. Murray
Mary J. Murray, 85, Maitland, died Dec. 11, 1997. Born in Newberry, Fla., she moved to central Florida in 1989, from Ponte Vedra Beach. She was a retired nurse. She was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church, Jonesville, Fla.
Surviors include two daughters, Marlene Childers, St. Augustine, and Margo Ray, Tennessee; a son, Dr. Gwinn Murray, Maitland; two sisters, Lucille Platt, Jacksonville, and Dorothy Greenman, Gainesville. Three grandchildren also survive.

Wallace G. Patton
Wallace G. Patton, 75, St. Augustine, died Dec. 19, 1997, at his residence. He was born in Pittsburgh, Penn. He moved here in 1994 from Alexandria, Va., where he was CEO of Patton Travel Management Corporation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviors include his wife Betty Patton, St. Augustine; six children and 11 grandchildren.

Myrtle Carr
Myrtle Blackwelder Carr, 85, St. Augustine, died Dec. 20, 1997, at St. Johns Health Care Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of St. Augustine, and she formerly owned and operated a grocery store here. She was of the Baptist faith.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery.
Survivors include one brother, Horace Blackwelder, St. Augustine; and two nieces, Carol W. Hansford, Valparaiso, Fla., Karen A. Williams, Niceville.

John Foster
John H. Foster, 60, St. Augustine, died Dec. 21, 1997, in Gainesville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ed Booth officiating. Burial will be in San Lorenzo Cemetery. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Craig Funeral Home chapel. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

William Knox
William Bobby Knox, 63, Folkston, Ga., died Dec. 20, 1997, at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville, following a brief illness. He was born in Brantley County, Ga., and he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Aldridge. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, and he was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was a member of Ashlar Lodge No. 98, F&AM, St. Augustine.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Little Phebe Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Charlton County. Full military and Masonic rites will be conducted by the U.S. Navy, Kings Bay, Ga., and by the Nahunta Masonic Lodge No. 391, F&AM.
Friends may call at the Chambless Funeral Home, Nahunta, tonight.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Lynn Lanier, St. Augustine; two sons, William Craig Knox, Folkston, Terry Joe Knox, Blackshear, Ga.; two sisters, Myrtle Hickox, Nahunta, Ruby Thompson, Lancaster, S.C.; two brothers, Virgil Knox, Nahunta, Thomas Knox, Angier, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and other relatives.

Billy Mathis
Billy L. Mathis, 67, St. Augustine, died Dec. 20, 1997, at Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and he had resided here for the past 15 years. He was a retired life insurance agency director, and he was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Craig Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. David Beecher, associate pastor of Mill Creek Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Evelyn ``Ebbie'' Mathis, St. Augustine; two sons, Gary Alligood, St. Augustine, Jerry Mathis, San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Wanda Paulson, Springfield, Texas; and 11 grandchildren.

Juan Mena
Juan Raul Mena, 70, St. Augustine, died Dec. 21, 1997, at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville. He was born in Puerto Rico, and he had resided here since 1988. He was a retired merchant marine, and he was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Arrangements will be announced by Craig Funeral Home.

James Ammons
James Reginald "Reggie" Ammons, 62, died Dec. 19, 1997, at his home. He was born in St. Augustine, and he was retired from the U.S. Navy, after 22 years. He was a commerical fisherman, and captain of the Jewel box.
Memorial services were held Monday evening at Moultrie Baptist Church, with Dr. Armando Silverio officiating.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Janie Ammons; four daughters, Debra Perry, Kansas, Regina Pinkston, Jane Desaray Ammons, Marjorie gonzalez, all of St. Augustine; two brothers, Gary Ammons Sr., Robert Ammons Sr., both of St. Augustine; three sisters, Sharon Mechelke, Jacksonville, Wanda Miller, Ina Bright, both of St. Augustine; and eight grandchildren.

John Foster
Funeral services for John H. Foster, 60, St. Augustine, who died Dec. 21, 1997, in Gainesville will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mr. Foster was born in Port Huron, Mich., and had had resided here for the past eight years. He was a retired supervisor of data systems for Ford Motor Company. He was a member of Cathedral Parish.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret V. Foster; two daughters, Mary Kay Ikens, Brighton, Mich., Julie A. Bachmann, Jacksonville; one son, John M. Foster, St. Augustine; a sister, Barbara Deegan, Port Huron; two brothers, Bob Foster, Venice, George Foster, Holland, Mich.; and five ggrandghildren.

David Gray
David Bruce Gray, 56, Federal Point, died Dec. 20, 1997, at Columbia Putnam Medical Center, following a long illness. He was a native of Palatka and a lifelong resident of Federal Point. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Hastings, and he was a retired farmer.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church, Hastings, with the Rev. Joe McCullough officiating.
Those wishing may make a donation, in his memory, to the Family of David Gray, c/o Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home, 307 S. Palm Ave., Palatka, 32177; or to Hospice of North Central Florida, 3204 Crill Ave., Palatka, 32177.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Star Gray, Federal Point; his mother, Ethel Gray, Federal Point; three sisters, Donna Myhre, New Orleans, La., Jennie Lee Boyer, Palatka, Dale Gray, Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Alan Gray, Federal Point; and other relatives.

Michael Jurechko
Michael Jurechko, 86, St. Augustine Beach, died Dec. 19, 1997, at Peninsula Medical Center, Ormond Beach. He was born in Bayonne, N.J., and he came to St. Augustine in 1983 from Medford, N.J. He was a retired accountant.
Survivors include his wife, Anita T., a daughter, Joyce J. Clifton, Houston, Texas; one son, Steven, Milford, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
