Janie Estelle Whaley, 87, St. Augustine, died Dec. 22, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital, Jacksonville. She was born in Moultrie, Ga., and she had resided here since 1940. She had worked at Marty's Restaurant for more than 30 years, and she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Bennie, a son, James Ronnie Liles, both of St. Augustine; two sisters, Helen Braddock, St. Augustine, Viree Shellhouse, Americus, Ga.; one brother, Gerue Smith, St. Petersburg; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements will be announced by Craig Funeral Home.
Marion Nettles
Marion E. "Bubba" Nettles, 71, St. Augustine, died Dec. 22, 1997, at his home. He was born in Ridgeland, S.C., and he had resided here most of his life. He was the former owner of Townet Press, and he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the DuPont Center Hunting Club, and he was a member of the First Christian Church of St. Augustine.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pellicer Creek Cemetery, with Wayne Fenner, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating.

Pearl D. Scott, 83, St. Augustine, died Dec. 22, 1997, at St. Johns Health Care. She was born in St. Mary Parish, La., and she had resided here since 1960. She was a retired nurses aide, having worked at Flagler Hospital, and she was of Cathedral Parish.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeremiah Lambe of the Cathedral officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 11 a.m. Friday until the hour of services.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Dugger, Frostproof; and other relatives including a number of brothers and sisters.

Bobbie Cushing Kelly
Bobbie Cushing Kelly, 82, died Dec. 23, 1997, in Ponte Vedra Beach. She was born in Moundville, Ala., and moved to Washington, D.C. where she married Edward Harvey Cushing of Cleveland, Ohio. She was active in the American Red Cross, the National Symphony Orchestra, Potomac School and Hillcrest Children's Center.
Later she divided her time between Antigua, Guatemala and Woodstock, Vt. In 1975, she married Walter McCune Kelly of New Canaan, Conn., and in 1980 moved from Guatemala to Boca Grande, Fla. where she was active in the Women's Club of Boca Grande. In 1995 they moved to Vicar's Landing in Ponte Vedra Beach.
A memorial service will be held in Woodstock in June.
Survivors include her husband, Walter M. Kelly; two daughters, Patsy Cushing Niles, Boston, Mass., Barbara Cushing Gibbs, Woodstock; and four grandsons.

Lola Holland King, 68, St. Augustine, died Dec. 26, 1997 at Meadowbrook Manor in Bunnell. She was born in Miami, Fla. and had resided in St. Augustine since 1951. She was the owner of King's Tackle at Matanzas Inlet. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Mrs. King was the wife of the late Herman J. King. Survivors include one son, Feron King, St. Augustine; one niece and two nephews.

Golda Palmes
Golda Love Palmes, 102, died Friday at Flagler Hospital East. She was born in Metcalf County, Kentucky. She moved to St. Augustine in 1920 from Pensacola. She was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, Gold Star Moms in Daytona and a 50-year member of Extension Homemakers. She started the Red Cross in West Augustine.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church, with Dr. John Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary P. Green of St. Augustine and Ellen P. Oliveros of Georgia; and many others to be announced.

John Leo Thornton, 62, died Dec. 23, 1997 at Flagler Hospital.

Herman Wilgis
Herman Lee Wilgis, Sr., 73, St. Augustine, died Dec. 26, 1997 at Memorial Medical Center in Jacksonville. Born in Poole, Md., he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army, and was a retired postal clerk. He had lived in St. Augustine since 1978, and was a member of the St. Augustine Stamp Club, the Disabled American Veterans and Ancient City Baptist Church, where he was active in the Sanctuary Choir, the Senior Adult Choir and the Keen-Agers Club.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle B. Wilgis of St. Augustine; four daughters, Sandra Wilkinson and Linda Clifton, both of St. Augustine, Patricia Patton of Hillsboro, Tex. and Karen Chizmar of Temple Terrace; two sons, Herman L. Wilgis, Jr. of St. Augustine and John Wilgis of Ponte Vedra; one sister, Virginia Scarff of BelAir, Md.; seventeen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Janie Whaley
Janie Whaley our precious mother and grandmother entered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Dec. 22, 1997.
She was born in Moultrie, Ga. and she went to work for Marty's Restaurant when the business began.
She was a loving and faithful mother to her two children, Ronnie Liles and Barbara Bennie. She was also faithful to her Lord in his church Calvary Baptist. Her love for others was a glory to God as she visited the sick and extended her hand to those around her.
She will be missed by all who loved and knew her. Her grandchildren Patti Greene, Keith Bennie, Kim Elam, Stacy Cribbs, Darryl Liles and Ronda Wagner will always remember her as the one who was always available to them.
She is absent in body but she will always be present in our hearts. God is so good to have given us the privilege of having her for so many years. Three generations have known and loved her. Her great-grandchildren are Kevin Bennie, Trey Greene, Travis Daniels, Sean Lavelle, Nicole Greene, Michelle Greene, Ryan Lavelle, Chad Lavelle, Keisha Bennie, Trista and Tiffany Lavelle. They will always remember her love to them. She completed her journey in this life with many crowns to cast at her Saviour's feet.
Your children do rise up and call you blessed mother.

Irene B. Artfich, 79, St. Augustine, died Dec. 24, 1997, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. She was born in Ottsville, Pa., and had lived here for several years. She attended the Lighthouse Church of God, and she volunteered many hours with various agencies in St. Augustine.
