Annie S. Watson, 90, St. Augustine, died Feb. 19, 1998, at St. Johns Health Care. She was born in Monticello, and she had resided here since 1922. She was a retired clerk for the Florida East Coast Railway, and she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 12. She had been a member of Ancient City Baptist Church since 1922.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Frank Northcutt, pastor of Ancient City Baptist Church, officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined, and those wishing may make a contribution, in her memory, to the Samantha Wilson Home for Senior Citizens Auxiliary, c/o of the Samantha Wilson Home, 169 Marine St., St. Augustine, 32084.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman J. Watson.
Survivors include three sons, Donald S. Watson, Richard O. Watson, both of St. Augustine, Jerry H. Watson, Douglasville, Ga.; one sister, Eulee Shepherd, St. Augustine; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Laura Mae Crowell Jones, 83, Greenville, Ohio, formerly of St. Augustine, died Feb. 20, 1998, in Wayne Hospital, Greenville. She was born in Waynesfield, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Fred Isch and the Rev. Harry Rolfe officiating. Burial will be in Snell Cemetery. Those wishing may make a contribution, in her memory, to the Cancer Society of Darke County.

Jean Bilger Burkhardt, 57, of St. Augustine, died Feb. 20, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. She was born in Maldon, Essex, England, and she was of the Episcopal faith.
Friends may call at the family home, 502 F Street, St. Augustine Beach, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Burkhardt; one daughter, Stephanie Westervelt, St. Augustine; a son, Warren Bilger, Clyde, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

Herbert Hirshberg
Herbert Simon Hirshberg, 74, Gainesville, died Feb. 19, 1998, at his home. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, and moved to Gainesville five years ago from the St. Augustine-Jacksonville area. He was a graduate of the University of California, Berkley School of Architect. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy.

Frank "Smitty" Smith, 74, St. Augustine, died Feb. 20, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. Born in Nyack, N.Y., he was a retired coordinator of biological products in the veterinary field.

Norman Stone
Norman K. Stone, 73, St. Augustine, died Feb. 20, 1998, at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville. He was born in Nashville, Tenn., and had lived in St. Augustine since 1951. He was retired from the Florida East Coast Railway and was a veteran. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in five battlefronts. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a 25-year member of the American Legion and 40 & 8.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Craig Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cordell Holloway officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park. Stone, Harold D. Stone, all of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
William Wattles
William W. "Bill" Wattles, 79, died Feb. 19, 1998, at the Putnam Medical Center in Palatka following a long illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the South Pacific during World War II where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a truck driver and worked 17 years for the former Dancy & Sons Oil Co. and 11« years with the Putnam County school system. He was a member of the Lemon Heights Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Saturday at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with the Rev. Bob Taylor officiating. Burial followed at the Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors given by the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Ruby Butler Wattles, Palatka; two daughters, Judy Vanderbent, St. Augustine, Cathy Smith, Pomona Park; one son, Ron Raulerson, Bryceville; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
John Wright
John Walter Wright, 44, St. Augustine, died Feb. 20, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. He was a native and longtime resident of St. Augustine.

Arthur Ayers
Arthur W. Ayers, 87, St. Augustine, died Feb. 22, 1998, at Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Mifflin County, Pa., and he had resided here since 1992. He was retired from Westinghouse Corporation, where he worked as administrator of personnel. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 829 of St. Augustine. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Virginia DeWitt
Virginia Miller DeWitt, 85, died Feb. 21, 1998, at her home on the Withlacoochee River near Dunedin. She was a native of Orlando but moved to St. Augustine with her family as a young girl. She graduated from Ketterlinus High School in 1933. She was the daughter of the late J.O. and Marian Miller of St. Augustine.
She lived in Atlanta for several years and moved back to Florida 24 years ago. She was a member of the Citrus County Extension Homemakers Council. She was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Miller DeWitt.
Burial will be in Atlanta at a later date.
Survivors include her husband, Charles J. DeWitt, Dunedin; a sister, Catherine Miller Hardee of St. Augustine, and a brother, Leonard C. Miller of St. Augustine.
Marian Stevens
Marian Tenney Stevens, 82, Melbourne, died Feb. 21, 1998, at Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne. She was born in Federal Point.

Evelyn Coley, 54, Hastings, died Feb. 22, 1998, in Flagler Hospital West. She was born in Madison, and she had resided in Hastings since early childhood and attended W.E. Harris School. She was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church, Hastings.
Survivors include daughters, Gloria Wesley, Evelena Coley, Betty Ann Bryant; son, Samuel Wesley; her mother, Erie Dell Rowe, all of Hastings; also surviving are 12 brothers, two sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Thomas Douglas
Thomas Allen Douglas, 70, St. Augustine and Miami, died Feb. 23, 1998, in Jacksonville. He had operated a freight salvage business in St. Augustine and Miami, and he was a Mason and a member of the Shrine.
Survivors include his wife, Jane, and other relatives.
