Victor Henry Apeler, 75, St. Augustine, died May 3, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. He was a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, and he was a marine pipe fitter at the Jacksonville Shipyard. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Craig Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Espanola Cemetery, Bunnell. Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife, Martha May Apeler, one daughter, Elizabeth Campbell, a son, Victor Walter Apeler, all of St. Augustine; a sister, Mary Florence Black, Fort Pierce; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Lillian Hudson
Lillian Fagen Hudson, a native of St. Augustine, died May 2, 1998, in Blairsville, Ga. She was a graduate of Ketterlinus High School and Florida State College for Women, Tallahassee, and she was founder and director of the kindergarten at the First Presbyterian Church, Brandon, and taught in the elementary public schools there for 25 years.
She was a children's art instructor at the St. Augustine Art Association and then in Blairsville, where she resided most recently.
Chapel and gravesite services were held today in Blairsville.
An open memorial service is planned at the Center for Positive Living, 69A S. Dixie Hwy., at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Fay Johnson
Fay Ione Reed Johnson, 81, died May 4, 1998. She was born in Donora, Pa., and she was a former resident of Lansdowne, Pa., before moving to Wesley Woods six years ago. She retired from Chilton Publishing Company. She was a member of Mandarin Lutheran Church and of the Eastern Star, and she was active at Wesley Woods, serving on the Residents' Council and participating in the artists' group.
Memorial services will be held in late June at Wesley Woods. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, in her memory, to Special Olympics of Delaware County, 307 Lenox Road, Havertown, Pa. 19083.
Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Herman R. Johnson.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Hubbard, St. Augustine, Karen Hatzell, Media, Pa.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Leonard Charles McDowell, 43, Green Cove Springs, died April 30, 1998, at Orange Park Medical Center. Born in Waycross, Ga., he had resided in Green Cove for the past 20 years. He was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the First African Baptist Church, Green Cove Springs, with the Rev. James Lee officiating. Burial will be Thursday at 4 p.m. in Hazzard Hill Cemetery, Waycross. Friends may call at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

MacKenzie DuFresne
MacKenzie Rose DuFresne passed away unexpectedly May 2, 1998. She was born in Jacksonville, Sept. 1, 1995, and will be loved and forever in the hearts of her Mom and Dad, Don and Mary Kay DuFresne, her sissy, Lauren, and her brother, Parker.
The special love and blessings MacKenzie bestowed on all her family will always remain in the hearts of her paternal grandparents, Rose and Ernest DuFresne, St. Augustine; her maternal grandparents, Dennis Wilhelms, Loraine, Ohio, Joan McCreery, Sheffield Lake, Ohio; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Boehnen, Ohio, and many loving and caring aunts, uncles and cousins.

Samuel H. ``Sammy'' Lane, 52, Elkton, died May 4, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. He was a native of St. Augustine, and he was retired from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. He was a member of the DuPont Center Hunting Club, and he was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

Eleanore Haid Young, 81, Charleston, S.C., died May 3, 1998, at the Ashley Terrace Assisted Care Home, Charleston. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and she was a resident of St. Augustine from 1945-95, when she moved to Charleston. She was former president of the Business and Professional Women's Club here, a member of AARP, the St. Augustine Swimming Club, and she was a member of Ancient City Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Frank Northcutt, pastor of Ancient City Baptist Church, officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Robert C. Young, Charleston, Thomas W. Young, Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Walter Lawton
George Walter Lawton, 85, St. Augustine, died May 6, 1998, at his home. He was born in St. Albans, Vt., and he had resided here for many years. He was a blacksmith at the Florida East Coast Railway and for the Seaboard Coastline Railroad, and he was a longtime member of Ancient City Baptist Church. He was a member of F&AM No. 98 and the Mullet Breakfast Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Berger, Sevierville, Tenn., Beth Schmermund, St. Augustine; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

M.C. Morgan
M.C. Morgan, 64, St. Augustine, died May 6, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. He was born in Jacksonville, and he had resided here since 1990. He was a retired captain with Eastern Airlines, serving with the airlines for 33 years; and he also served as an aviator in the U.S. Marine Corps with the rank of captain. He was past tournament chairman and member of the Men's Golf Association of Marsh Creek Country Club, and he served on the board of directors of the St. Johns County Audubon Society. His work on wild bird photography, with his wife, Amanda, has been featured in several national publications.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda, St. Augustine; two sons, Dennis Morgan, Reston, Va., Del Morgan, Ashburn, Va.; his stepmother, Blanch Couch, Dunedin; three sisters, Linda Fish, Jacksonville, Martha Campbell, Peachtree City, Ga., Emily Kirkland, Dunedin; and two brothers, Steve Morgan, Eustis, Lester Couch III, Brandon.

Mary Louise Owens, 85, 25C Pine St., died May 3, 1998, in Flagler Hospital East. She was born in Statesboro, Ga., and she had resided here since early childhood. She was a member of the Hurst Chapel AME Church, and served on the choir and was former church clerk. She was also a beautician for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hurst Chapel AME Church, with the Rev. John Williams, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pinehurst Cemetery. Robert Richardson
Robert Dozier Richardson, 74, Ponte Vedra Beach, died May 1, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center Beaches. He was born in Atlanta, Ga., and he was a graduate of Emory University and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was a veteran of World War II, and he was a retired IBM executive. He was president and state president of the Navy League of the U.S. in St. Thomas, and he was a member of Rotary. He also served as vice president of the Republican Club of Greater St. Augustine.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, Ponte Vedra Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions, in his memory, to Hospice Northeast, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, 32257.

Joseph V. Rizzo, 67, Gainesville, died May 4, 1998, at Shands Hospital, University of Florida, Gainesville. He was born in New York City, and he had resided in this area for the past 18 years. He retired from PCR, Inc., Gainesville, having served as vice president of marketing. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, Heritage Club board of governors, the Pelican Inlet Condo Association board of directors, and he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church. He was former president of the Quaker Oats Corporation of Japan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Faith Catholic Church, Gainesville, with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Meadows Central, Gainesville. Friends may call at the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home, Gainesville, from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Friday.

Ruby L. Burgis, 73, Voluntown, Conn., died April 21, 1998, in the Pendelton Health Care Facility, Mystic, Conn., following a long illness. She was born in Tallahassee, and she was the wife of the late Floyd A. Burgis, having been married in St. Augustine Aug. 14, 1943. She had resided in New London since 1964. She was a former domestic engineer, and she was a member of Mt. Olive Seventh Day Adventist Church, serving as a lay interlecture evangelist, a deaconess and an elder.
Funeral services were held in New London, Conn., with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Floyd A. Burgis, Columbia, S.C., Charles E. Burgis, New London, James L. Burgis, Groton, Conn.; two daughters, Shirley V. Broadnax, Voluntown, Ruby J.
