Rita Scanlon, 83, St. Augustine, died July 30, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. She was born in Marple Township, Pa., and she had resided in St. Augustine for the past nine years. She was a retired retail sales association, and she was a member of the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine.

James Bennett
James Bennett, 75, of Elwood, died July 16, 1998, at his home following a long illness. He was a former truck driver and a faithful Deacon at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Bennett; six daughters, Dorothy Jones and Yolanda Bennett, both of St. Augustine, Shirley Jenkins, Annette Shurman, Betty Foster, all of Green Cove Springs, and Christine Darby of Penny Farms; five sons, Kenneth Bennett of Jacksonville, Ralph Bennett, Steve Bennett, Milton Bennett, Terrell Bennett, all of Green Cove Springs; one sister, Mattie Brown of Hollywood, Fla.; and 24 grandchildren.
Funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church in Elwood. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Augustine. The Rev. Bradley, pastor, and the Rev. Houston will be officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, and from 1 p.m. until the hour of services on Wednesday.

Benjamin Morris Sr.
Benjamin Morris Sr., 71, Gray, Ga., died July 17, 1998, at home. He graduated from Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind and remained on as a custodian until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul AME Church.
He is survived by one son, Benjamin Morris Jr., St. Augustine; one sister, Willie Ruth Donaldson, Jacksonville; two grandchildren; and other relatives.

Robert Polan
Robert Eric Polan, 50, St. Augustine, died July 18, 1998, at Florida Hospital North in Altamonte Springs. He was born in Bronx, N.Y., and had resided in St. Augustine since 1983. He was a negotiator and estimator for Northrop Grumman. He was a veteran of Vietnam having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Polan; one daughter, Samantha Michelle Polan of Flagler Beach; Nathan and Marcella Polan of Deerfield Beach; and one sister, Gwen Taylor of Boca Raton.
Prayer services will be 5 p.m. today with visitation continuing until 8 p.m. at Craig Funeral Home.
Mary Webb
Mary Stella Carr Webb, 83, St. Augustine, died July 15, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. She was born in Heard County, Ga., and she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, St. Augustine. She formerly resided in Tifton, Ga., moving to St. Augustine in 1988.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Baptist Church, County Road 208.
Mrs. Webb was the wife of the late Elmer Webb, and she was the mother of the late Bobby Webb.
Survivors include one son, Charles Webb of St. Augustine; a brother, Judson Carr of Tifton; seven sisters, Sallie Bryan of Chula, Ga., Carrie Dunn, Margaret Belflower, both of Macon, Ga., Leecie Jones of Tifton, Naomi Earn and Juanita Watson, both of Centerville, Ga., and Thelma Daughtrey of Lenox, Ga.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mildred Wolfe
Mildred (Milly) Louise Wolfe, 72, Bradenton, died July 17, 1998, at Blake Medical Center, Bradenton. She was a lifelong resident of Bradenton, and she was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Bradenton. She was employed for 25 years with 7-11 Stores in Bradenton. She was a member of the DAR and the Bradenton Women's Club.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th Street West, Bradenton, with the Rev. Bryan McMullen officiating. Friends may call today from 7-9 p.m. at the chapel.

William Dixon
William R. Dixon, 83, Palm Coast, died July 18, 1998, at the Specialty Hospital, Jacksonville. He was born in Newark, N.J., and he was a former longtime St. Augustine resident, moving here from Rome, Ga. A longtime church organist and choir director, Mr. Dixon continued his church service throughout his career as a mechanical engineer. While serving at St. Peter's Church, Rome, Ga., he organized and directed, for 13 years, the 60-voice boys choir which made annual tours in the southern part of the U.S. and won many awards. After moving to St. Augustine, he accepted the full-time position as choirmaster/organist at Memorial Presbyterian Church, and there he administered a multi-choir program and instituted a bi-monthly recital series. He also reactivated a choral society for annual oratorio performances.
From 1987-June 1995, he was organist and choirmaster at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Palm Coast. His last day there was declared ``William R. Dixon Day'' in appreciation of his years of service.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of St. Augustine.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 1 at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pat, Palm Coast; one son, Ken, Orlando; a sister, Margaret Allen, Madison, N.J.; two grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nancy Violio
Nancy I. Violio, 66, St. Augustine, died July 31, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. She was born in Long Island, N.Y., and had resided in St. Augustine since 1975. She was retired and was past president of the American Legion Post 37 Ladies Auxiliary.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home with the Rev. S. Dwight McQueen officiating.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Wayne Teehan, St. Augustine, and William Bruce Teehan, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Violio.
T.R. Weathersby
T.R. ``Ted'' Weathersby, 91, Ponte Vedra Beach, died Friday, July 31, 1998, at his home following a brief illness. Born in Arlington, Ga., he moved to Ocala in 1926 and then to St. Augustine in 1946 with his family. He became actively involved with the First United Methodist Church and the community, joining the Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club and the Morocco Temple.
In the '50s, he opened his own real estate and insurance business. In 1960, he ran for the City Commission and shortly thereafter was elected president of the Board of Realtors. He became involved with the Rotary Club and became the treasurer of the Independent Luncheon Club. He was recently honored as the oldest past president of the St. Augustine Shrine Club. He and his wife, Cora, recently moved to Ponte Vedra Beach to be closer to their children.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. S. Dwight McQueen, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. Pallbearers will be Scot Regner, Steve Graham, Ron Carroll, T.J. Calise, Gene Tonsager and Leon Shimer.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Cora; daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Tim Lane; three granddaughters and their spouses, Lori and Scot Regner, Debbie and Steve Graham, Stephanie and Ron Carroll; and three great-grandchildren, T.J. Calise, Lane Carroll and Courtney Graham.

Olive Vee Wilson, 83, St. Augustine, died Aug. 1, 1998, at Bay View/Samantha Wilson Care Center. She was born in Detroit, Mich., and she had resided here since 1924. She was a member of the Hibiscus Garden Club, the St. Augustine Historical Society, a former member of the Junior Service League, and she worked for the American Red Cross during World War II. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Minnie L. Altizer, 70, St. Augustine, died Aug. 1, 1998, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation, Palm Coast. She was born in Marytown, W.Va., and she had resided here since 1952. She was retired from Woolworths. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
