Drew Galloway Sr. of Westville died Sept. 14 in Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva, Ala., following a brief illness.
He was the youngest of 14 children born to William Armphry, and Dasie Charity Cotton Galloway. He was a retired Florida State Trooper and worked in the licensing division. He was a graduate of Ponce de Leon High School and attended Florida State University. He was a former sheriff of Holmes County. He was a member of the Retired Florida Sheriffs Association. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in New Hope. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was a member of the Hurricane Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Harvey, Clifton, Cleo, W.A. Jr., Reo, and Murdoc Galloway, and Celeste Galloway Bowden.
Survivors include one son, Drew Galloway Jr. and wife, Jamie, of Milton; one daughter, Bobbie Anne Brigman and husband, Rick, of Panama City; mother of his children, Ann Marie Galloway; three sisters, Ruby Hutson, and husband, Kendrick, of Westville, Vallie Riddle Flournoy of Geneva, Ala., and Pat Andrews of Westville; three brothers, Buford Galloway of Westville, Clyde Galloway and wife, Dot, of Bonifay, Bill Galloway and wife, Helen, of Westville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 16 at Pittman Funeral Home Chapel in Geneva, Ala., with Rev. Duke Barrow officiating. Burial followed in Hurricane Creek Cemetery in Westville with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.
Helen E. Hardy, 76
Helen Elaine Hardy of Skipperville, Ala., died Sept. 16 in Ozark, Ala.
She had resided in Skipperville for the past three years, moving from Chipley. She was of the Assembly of God faith and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Chipley. She was the organizer and the first secretary for the Chamber of Commerce in Chipley. She was a Sunday school teacher at the First Assembly of God for 40 years. She managed Hardy Catfish Diner for nine years.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Cherryl Morris.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene E. Hardy of Skipperville; one son, Bert Hardy and wife, Sharon, of Niceville; two daughters, Cherry Hall and husband, Eugene, of Chipley, Julia Gassett and husband, Michael, of Skipperville; one brother, Billy Joe Ratley of Melbourne; two sisters, Martha R. Williams of Melbourne, June Contrell of Dothan, Ala.; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services wereheld Sept. 19 at the First Assembly of God Church in Chipley with Revs. Ted Satterfield, Dallas Pettis and Carl Hodges officiating. Burial followed in Hardy Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Windell Kolmetz, 65
Windell Kolmetz of Chipley died Sept. 16 in Chipley.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County. She was of the Presbyterian faith and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chipley.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Ray Kolmetz of Chipley; two sons, Stpehen and wife, Kari, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bruce Kolmetz and wife, Kristy, of Vernon; one daughter, Kim Riley of Chipley; one sister, Iva Jean Dinkins of Bonifay; six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 18 at Wachob Chapel with Revs. Bert Swearingen and Tom Boone officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Leron A. Callaway, 86
Leron A. Callaway of Southport died Sept. 10 at his residence.
He was a retired plant equipment operator with Gulf Power Company and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He was born in Malone and had resided in this area since 1970. He was a member of the Lynn Haven Mineral and Gem Club. He owned and operated Cal’s Repair Shop in Southport for many years.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Callaway Godwin in 1980.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Berdena Callaway of Southport, two daughters, Mary Callaway DeBorde of Johnson City, Tenn., and Sheryl A. Callaway of Bonifay; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Sept. 12 at Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel in Lynn Haven.
Bernard D. Femminella Jr., 47
Bernard Daniel “Danny” Femminella Jr. died Sept. 15 in Montezuma, Arizona (100 miles north of Phoenix).
He was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, and was a lifelong resident of Madison, New Jersey, before moving to Phoenix where he and Shirley Babeck lived for the last eight years. While in Arizona he worked in the construction field, and as a licensed real estate appraiser.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David (Bucky).
Survivors include Shirley Babeck; his parents, Bernard Sr. of Chipley; his mother, Catherine of Madison, N.J.; one son, Ralph of Florida; one daughter, Christina of Florida; two sisters, Renee and Regina; four brothers, Joe, John, Larry and Chucky “Charles” of New Jersey; two sisters-in-law, Michelle and Charlotte; four nieces, one nephew, and many cousins and aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at Madison, N.J. at a later date.
Ralph E. Adams, 67
Ralph Edward Adams of Esto died Sept. 18 at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born in Geneva County, Ala., on Oct. 6, 1934. He was a truck driver with Lloyd Pascal Company and a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Adams of Esto; two daughters, Virginia Gammons and husband, Odell, of Esto, Brenda Mixon and husband, Johnny, of Noma; two brothers, Alvin Adams and wife, Syble, of Bowling Green, R.B. Adams of Esto; three sisters, Ouida Gilmore of Hartford, Ala., Minnie Wright and husband, Doyle, of Esto, Mary Paul and husband, Julian, of Esto; 12 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sept. 20 at Esto Baptist Church with Bros. Steve Boroughs and Herman Sellers officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing.
Clifford J. Shoemaker, 81
Clifford J. Shoemaker of Sunny Hills died Sept. 11 in Sunny Hills.
He had lived in Sunny Hills for the past two years, moving there from Panama City. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the Elks and Amvets.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Shoemaker of Sunny Hills; two brothers, Ron Shoemaker and Les Shoemaker, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one sister, Mert VanRhee of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Graveside services were held Sept. 14 in the Flint Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Vinemont, Ala.
