Craig Baxley of Chipley died Jan. 9 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Baxley; paternal grandparents, Percy and Bertha Baxley; maternal grandparents, George and Rosa Lee Cochran.
Survivors include his mother, Joan Baxley of Chipley; two brothers, Joey and wife, Lynn Baxley, of Greenwood and David Christopher Baxley of Chipley; one sister, Cindy Owens of Bonifay; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at Marvin Chapel Cemetery in Graceville with the Revs. Clint Howell and Michael Orr officiating, and Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Ruth Alsobrooks, 60
Ruth Miles Alsobrooks of Cottondale died Jan. 8 at her home there. She was a lifelong resident of the area. Alsobrooks was Baptist by faith. She was an outgoing, giving lady who was a helper to all.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Lee Miles, and a brother, William Henry Miles.
Survivors include her husband, Jesse “Danny” Alsobrooks of Cottondale; her father, Jason J. Miles of Graceville; two sons, Randall Alsobrooks and wife, Sandee, of Youngstown, Jesse “Brooks” Alsobrooks of Cottondale; two daughters, Rachel Dawn Reyes and husband, Jose, Sarah Candee and husband, Scott, all of Panama City; four brothers, Billie Joe Miles and wife, Shirley, of Graceville, Charles Ray Miles and wife, Ella Jo, of Chipley, Frank Nelson Miles and wife, Connie, Dale Jason Miles and wife, Judy, all of Tallahassee; three sisters, Nettie Ann Hines of Sneads, Carolyn Marie Gilmore and Buddy Branning, Linda Jane Gilmore and Larry Sapp, all of Marianna; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Jan. 11 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Jackie Register and Bros. Ed Holman and Eddie Holman officiating.
Burial will follow in Piney Grove Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Tommie Kolmetz, 79
Tommie Lee Dunn Kolmetz of Panama City died Dec. 29. She was born near Vernon July 18, 1926, to T.F. Franklin and Lula Knight Dunn. She had been a resident of Panama City for more than 50 years, moving there from Washington County.
She graduated from Vernon High School in the class of 1944. She was a vital part in the establishment and success of the construction business founded by her husband in 1956.
A member of Hiland Park Baptist Church since the early 1950s, she was active in all aspects of church life. She taught Sunday school, vacation bible school and was very active in the Woman’s Association area-wide. She was instrumental in the growth of Hiland Park Baptist, as well as helping establish Brannonville Baptist Church as a mission of Hiland Park.
Kolmetz was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Henry Helton Kolmetz; a sister, Alice Watson; and a great-grandson.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Leveda and Rodney Allen, Sandra and John Devine, all of Panama City; a son, Thomas Henry Kolmetz and wife, Barbara, of Panama City; two sisters, Gertrude Weaver of Vernon and Evelyn Mullins of Southport; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 1 in Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Don Pickerill officiating.
Burial was in the cemetery at Live Oak Baptist Church, west of New Hope, with Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home of Panama City in charge of directions. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hiland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 2611 Hwy. 231, Panama City, FL 32405.
Cortez Bush, 85
Cortez Bush of the Poplar Springs community near Graceville died April 19 at Bonifay Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following an extended illness. He was born in Holmes County April 26, 1920, to the late John Allen and Rosalie Windham Bush.
He was a 1938 graduate of Poplar Springs High School and received his masters degree in education from the University of Florida. He was principal of Poplar Springs, Ponce de Leon and Bethlehem schools with the majority of his career spent at Poplar Springs school.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Noma Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lottie Bush of Graceville; two sons, Cortez Bush Jr. and wife, Pat, of Graceville, Warren Bush and wife, Aurelia of Pace; a daughter and son-in-law, Mina and Steve Andrews, also of Pace; one sister, Doris Scott of Ponce de Leon; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were April 22 at Noma Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Scott, Mike Scott and Bobby Scott officiating. James & Lipford Funral Home of Graceville was in charge of arrangements.

Vernell Thompson, 75
Vernell McCallister Thompson of Slocomb, Ala., died April 20. A Jackson County native, she was born Sept. 24, 1930, to Hue Gaston McCallister and Addie Dovie Simmons McCallister.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Huey McCallister and Lural McCallister, and a grandson, Shawn Burkett.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Lawrence and Joy Craft, and James William Craft; a daughter, Susan Nell Bloodworth; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 22 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. George Johnson officiating.
Burial followed in the New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Williams Funeral Home of Graceville in charge of arrangements.
Betty Spivey, 69
Betty Jo Spivey of Marianna died April 21 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County.
Spivey was retired as administrative assistant with the Florida Department of Transportation in Marianna.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, line dancing and the beach.
Spivey was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosanne Harris, and her father, Joseph (Joe) Sims.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Spivey; one son, Tracy Spivey; and her mother, Lola M. Sims, all of Marianna; one brother, Neal Sims of Marianna; four sisters, Dorothy Dickenson of Marianna, Catherine Sebaso of Queen Ann, Md., Patsy Vickers of Panama City and Terri Cook of Vernon. three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services were held April 24 at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Roland Rabon officiating and Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church library fund or the American Cancer Society.
L.D. Baxley, 72
L.D. Baxley of Bonifay died April 21 at Doctors Memorial Hospital there. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Pearlie Baxley, and a son, Dearl Baxley.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jean Baxley of Bonifay; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Betty Baxley of Bonifay; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Michael Barrett of Toomsuba, Miss., Teresa and Felix Mertes of Bonifay; two adopted daughters, Guthrie Sekhon of Panama City and Sheila Casey of Dothan, Ala.; a brother, Ralph Baxley of Eustis; two sisters, Geraldine Mills of Bonifay and Mary Underwood of Winter Garden; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were April 24 in the funeral home chapel with the Revs. Lawrence Eubanks and Guy Mallory officiating.
Burial was in Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
