Dellie V. Swindle of Caryville died Nov. 29 at Mariner Health of Bonifay.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston “D.P.” Swindle.
Survivors include one son, Tommy Swindle and wife, JoAnn, of Caryville; one daughter, Shirley Haviland and husband, Jerry, of Caryville; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held Dec. 2 at Peel Funeral Home Chapel in Bonifay with Rev. George Scarborough officiating. Burial followed in Bethel Church Cemetery in Washington County with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
Gertrude E. Roberts, 73
Gertrude Elizabeth Roberts of Ponce de Leon died Nov. 29 at Washington County Convalescent Center in Chipley.
Survivors include her husband, Robert W. Roberts of Ponce de Leon.
Memorialization was by cremation with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
Eaf Furr, 82
Eaf Furr of Chipley died Nov. 26 at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay.
Survivors include three sons, Zane Furr of Chipley, Chris Furr of Leesburg, John Furr of Provo, UT; one daughter, Susan Bland of Seagrove Beach; three brothers, Wilson Furr of Lake Wales, Oman Furr of Luverne, Ala., Athens Furr of Jacksonville; one sister, Tess Furr of Beaumont, TX; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 29 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Elder Gary Aukema officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Andalusia, Ala. with Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
Earl H. Waddell, 90
Earl Hillman Waddell of Dothan died Nov. 24 at Mariner Health Care of Bonifay after a brief illness.
He was born April 21, 1912, in Dothan, Ala., and lived there most of his life. In 1936, he met and married Inez Riley. During the early years of his working life he was engaged in farming. He later became a mechanic at South Oates Texaco which he owned and operated for 15 years. He was a charter member of the Evergreen Presbyterian Church and was active in building the first permanent Evergreen Presbyterian Church at the present location. He held various offices at the church including elder.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who died in February; a daughter, Lucianne Brown; and a brother, Byrd Waddell.
Survivors include one son, William Earl Waddell and wife, Ruth, of Quincy; one son-in-law, Roger Brown of Dothan, Ala.; one sister, Iona Wells of Dothan; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Oct. 27 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Rev. Joe Johnson officiating and Byrd Funeral Home of Dothan directing.
Marguerite Carswell, 88
Marguerite Carswell of Chipley died Nov. 24 in Chipley.
She was a lifelong resident of Chipley and was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chipley. She was a past member of the Chipley Womans Club and the Chipley Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Carswell.
Survivors include one daughter, Jahmelia Gainer and husband, Kenneth, of Chipley; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held Nov. 27 in Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Lee Allen officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Mollie B. Lanier, 88
Mollie B. Lanier of Sneads died Nov. 20 at Courtyard at The Millpond in Marianna.
She was born in Jackson County and had lived there for 66 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sneads. She retired from Sneads High School lunchroom and was a volunteer at Sunland and Hope Schools for more than 10 years. She was affectionately known as “Granny” Lanier.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Lanier.
Survivors include one son, Cecil D. Lanier and wife, Jackie, of Pensacola; one daughter, Shirley L. Parmer of Sneads; one sister, Fran Thieleke of Grand Ridge; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 22 at First Baptist Church in Sneads with Rev. Tim Sizemore officiating. Burial followed in Dykes Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home, Sneads Chapel directing.
Jerry W. Cook, 54
Jerry Wayne Cook of Marianna died Nov. 19 at Campbellton-Graceville Hospital.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Marianna. He was retired from National By-products with more than 19 years of service. He was the owner-operator of A-1 Tire Company in Marianna for over 15 years. He also worked for the Jackson County School Board as a bus driver. He was a past member of the Marianna Elks Lodge and a past member of the Jackson County Optimist Club serving on the board of directors. He was a member of Pilgrims Rest Assembly of God.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ham; his parents, Charlie Cook and Myrtle Marie Cunningham Cook.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila M. Cook of Marianna; one son, Timothy Cook of Marianna; one brother, Lester Lee Cook of Sneads; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 22 at Maddox Chapel with Rev. Preston Bledsoe, Bobby Wilson, Valeeta Smith, and Mae Harrison officiating. Burial followed in Pinecrest with James & Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.
