Vernon Wayne Lowe of Chipley died Jan. 3 at his home there. He was born Oct. 30, 1941, in Burlington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick J. Lowe.
Lowe was a numismatist. He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his mother, Darlene Lowe of Denver, Colorado; a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Jamie Lowe of Bonifay; two daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Lyric Wynn of Forks, Wash., Jennifer and Freddie Hubbard of Denver; two brothers, Fredrick Lowe and Virgil Lowe, both of Denver; a sister, Zelda Bahmier of Denver, and two grandchildren.
Memorialization was by cremation with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay in charge of arrangements.
Mary Whitfield, 74
Mary Ruby Whitfield of Tallahassee died Jan. 2 in Westville at the home of her son. She was born Nov. 15, 1932, in Canal Point.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Lynch.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Earl and Linda Whitfield of Westville, Steven Lynch of Crawfordville, Earnest and Brenda Lynch of Monticello; two daughters and a son-in-law, Belinda and Earl Williams of Ponce de Leon, and Nancy Lynch of Tallahassee; a brother, Homer Starling of Monticello; two sisters, Cathrin Haynes of Sopchoppy and Bessie Welch of Woodville.
Burial was in Oakfield Cemetery in Monticello (Jefferson County) with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay in charge of local arrangements.
James Shaw, 25
James Robert Shelley Shaw of Cottondale died Jan. 2 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. He was born May 7, 1981, in Dothan, Ala., to Jimmy Clyde Sr. and Jacqueline (Farmer) Shaw.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Shaw; and a sister, Peggy Sue Shaw.
Survivors include his parents, Jimmy Clyde Shaw Sr. and Jacqueline Shaw, his wife, Bathina Michele Shaw, one son, Sampson Foxworth, a daughter, Shawana Foxworth, all of Cottondale; six brothers, Michael and Kat Flowers of Pensacola, Phillip Flowers and David Flowers, both of Dothan, Ala., Tim and June Flowers and Jimmy Shaw Jr., all of Cottondale, James Jr. and Brenda Shaw of Sarasota; three sisters, Barbara Shaw and Alice Faye Shaw, both of Sarasota, and Carleen Flowers of Washington State.
Paul D. Mims, 85
Paul Dewey Mims of Bonifay died Jan. 4 at his home there. He was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Black, Ala.He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Ola Simmons Mims and a brother, Johnny Mims.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Whitaker Mims of Bonifay; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patsy Mims, Regina and Billy Strickland, all of Panama City; two step-daughters and their husbands, Shirley and Donald Jernigan of Bonifay, Bonzie and Jimmy Shiver of Geneva, Ala.; two step-sons and their wives, Jackie and Sandy Jernigan of Fort Walton Beach, Charles and Marcy Jernigan of Geneva; two sisters, Bertha Methe and Velma Robichaux, both of New Orleans, La., eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Jan. 7 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ike Steverson officiating. Burial was in Bonifay City Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
Patricia Bevis, 37
Patricia Ann Bevis of Cottondale died Jan. 4 in Marianna. She was born in Marianna Dec. 27, 1969, and was a life-long resident of Jackson County.
She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Carolyn Kornegay, one daughter, Christina “Tina” Elizabeth Bevis, two brothers, Lamar Kornegay and Jerry Ralph Kornegay, all of Cottondale; and a niece, Alley Kornegay of Panama City.
Services were held Jan. 7 in the funeral home chapel with the Revs. Billy Hendrix and Jackie Register officiating.
Burial followed in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Cottondale with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Earnestine Moore, 81
Earnestine Moore of Bonifay died Dec. 27 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley.
Survivors include three sons, Olen Moore and Ocie Moore Jr., both of Bonifay, and Jimmy Moore of Panama City Beach; four daughters, Jeweline Covington of Panama City Beach, Earline Pettis, Mary Ann (Moore) Bearden, and Frankie Everett, all of Bonifay; two sisters, Ruth Miller and Nancy Lee, both of Bonifay; two brothers, T.J. Andrews of Lakeland and Sellie Andrews of Bonifay, 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 29 in the funeral home chapel with the Revs. LaVon Pettis and Steve Allen Pettis officiating.
Burial was in New Smyrna Cemetery with Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
George Sheffield, 71
George Sheffield of Vernon died Jan. 8 at his home. He was born in Vernon Oct. 24, 1935, to the late William and Mattie Lou Sheffield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, W.M. and J.L. Sheffield.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherri Fey of Vernon and Christie Sheffield of Fountain; three brothers, Harvey Sheffield of Callaway, Jimmy Sheffield of Southport and Dalton Sheffield of Crestview; five sisters, Effie Lee Brock of Vernon, Pauline Wells of Youngstown, Willodean Ketter and Phoebe Shaw, both of Panama City, and Elaine Feldkamp, of Belton, Mo., and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 10 a,m, Jan. 11 at Sheffield Cemetery with the Rev. Alan English officiating and Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
