Johnny Loften Lumpkin of Bonifay died March 31 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Lumpkin of Bonifay; two sons, Mark Lumpkin and wife, Cindy, and Johnny Lumpkin, all of Bonifay; two daughters, Margaret Fowler and husband, Mike, of Yulee, and Wanda Greathouse and husband, Ronnie, of Hartford, Ala.; a brother, Ovied Lumpkin of Glennville, Ga.; a sister, Pauline Poole of Swainsboro, Ga.; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 4 at Town and Country Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville.
Burial followed in Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville.
Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay was in charge of local arrangements.
Coretha Wilson Niles, 80
Coretha Wilson Niles of Bonifay died March 31 in Shand Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was a native of Caryville, and a long-time resident of Bonifay.
Survivors include five children, Johnnie M. Parker and husband, David, of Jacksonville, Jake Spires and wife, Lottie, of Bonifay, Henry W. Wilson and wife, Bonita, of Columbus, Ga., Cynthia D. Studemire and husband, Lewis, of Jacksonville, and Sylvester Hodo of Bonifay; sister-in-law, Edna Jackson of Bonifay; a cousin, many grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held March 29 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Bonifay, with Revs. Henry Taylor, Issac Manning, A.H. Davis and R.E. Hudson officiating.
Burial followed in Bonifay Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Harry Howell, 76
Harry Howell of Mexico Beach, formerly of Marianna, died April 1 in Marianna.
He was born Sept. 6, 1926, to the late John Fate and Vera Mae Key Howell.
He was a veteran of World War II.
He graduated from Graceville High School and Troy State University, and received his masters degree from Florida State University.
His career began as a coach at Marianna High School in 1949, until 1959 when he became principal at Riverside Elementary School, and later Marianna High School.
After serving as principal, he became the superintendent of Sunland in Marianna, and later at Sunland in Gainesville.
He retired as sub-district administrator with HRS in Panama City.
Since 1976 he lived in Mexico Beach and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mexico Beach.
He was a lifetime member of the Marianna Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Howell.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Emily Golson Howell of Mexico Beach; one daughter, Karen Henrickson and husband, Phil, of Malone; one son, Randy Howell and wife, Jan, of Marianna; one sister, Mary Virginia Pelham of Graceville; one brother, John Howell of Graceville; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 3 at First United Methodist Church in Marianna with Revs. Ted Lovelace and Fred Zeigler officiating.
Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.
Gail Morris, 53
Gail Morris of Stockbridge, Ga., died March 30.
She was a member of Timberlake Nazarene Church, and worked for the State of Georgia.
Survivors include a borther, Larry Alan Morris of Chipley; adopted daughter, Tammy Russell; a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held April 3 at Lovewood Cemetery in Georgia, with Morrell Gwynn Hayes officiating.
Ford-Stewart Funeral Home of Jonesboro, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.
Lena Gertrude “Trudy” Cox, 92
Lena Gertrude “Trudy” Cox of Sneads died May 19 at her residence.
She was born in Lovedale and had lived in Sneads for 33 years.
She retired from Florida State Hospital in 1973.
She was a member of the Circle Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Cox; a son, James Cox; and a daughter, Jennie Sneads.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Howell Cox and wife, Ann, of Sneads, and Jimmie Harold Cox and wife, Janice, of Sneads; three daughters, Robbie McAlpin of Gray, Ga., Lorrena Benbo, and Lavell Neel and husband, Charlie, all of Sneads; one son-in-law, Harry Sneads of Sneads; two sisters, Agnes Helms of Bascom and Louise Smith of Tallahassee; 36 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held May 22 at Circle Hill Baptist Church in Jackson County with Revs. Juno Douglas and Danny Crosby officiating.
Burial followed in Circle Hill Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in Marianna directing.
David Kellum, 55
David Kellum of Chipley died May 20 after a battle with cancer.
A 1965 graduate of Chipley High School, David went on to graduate from Florida State University in 1969, with a Bachelor of Science in social studies education.
He taught at Woodham High School in Pensacola from 1969 to 1988, where he also served as yearbook advisor for many years.
During this time, he earned a Master of Science degree in management from Troy State University.
From 1988 to 1999, David served as the Director of Instructional Technology for the Escambia County School District.
In 1998, he was honored by the Florida Association for Computers in Education, and the Florida Council of Instructional Technology Leaders with the Instructional Technology Leader of the Year Award.
Following his retirement from the school district, David provided consultant services for the Florida Educational Technology Corporation until his retirement in 2002.
Survivors include his parents, Roy and Lois Kellum of Chipley; a brother, J.W. Kellum of Panama City Beach; sisters, Rhonda Bryant of Woolwine, Va., and Brenda Edenfield of Clayton, N.C.; and six nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held May 23 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola, followed by graveside services in Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley, with Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel directing.
Donald Ray Wilson, 57
Donald Ray Wilson of Geneva, Ala., died May 5, from injuries sustained in an airplane accident on John’s Mountain, near Calhoun (Gordon County), Ga.
He was born Nov. 6, 1945, in LaFollette, Tenn., to the late Ed and Hester Ann (Parrot) Wilson, being the youngest of 11 children.
While serving in the United States Army, Don was stationed at Fort Rucker, where on May 15, 1965, he met his wife, Ruby.
Don owned and operated Tri-State Telephones, Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby J. (Kyser) Wilson of Geneva, Ala.; a daughter, Kimberly R. Hathcock and husband, Kenneth, of Geneva; son, Denny Wilson and wife, Angie, of Geneva; daughter, Donna Hicks and husband, Tommy, of Westville; son, Ricky Wilson and wife, Nyoka, of Geneva; brother, Jackie “Dack” Wilson and wife, Azilee, of LaFollette; brother, Dewey Wilson and wife, Ruby, of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Betty Baird and husband, Robert, of LaFollette; two brothers-in-law, Farrell Kyser and Joseph Kyser; a host of nieces and nephews, and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held May 14 at Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Geneva, with Revs. Farrell Kyser, Tracy Hobbs, and Timothy Gann officiating.
Burial followed in the Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.
A special fly-by tribute was given at the graveside service by Randy Goodwin, John Corbin, and John Raeburn, as well as solo pilot, Dave Quimby.
The men flew a missing man triangle formation with Goodwin leading the aircraft, in a plane owned by Don, and built by him and his son, Ricky.
As all of the aircraft began to gain altitude, the lead pilot climbed to a higher altitude signifying the downed pilot ascending to heaven with the solo pilot tipping his wings, saying “good-bye” as he flew over.
