Bessie Nichols Hegwood of Graceville, formerly of the Rehobeth community, died Jan. 23 in the Cedar Crest Nursing Center in Montgomery, Ala.
She moved to Graceville in 1983 and lived there until 1999 when she moved to Montgomery. She was a member of the Eastern Star with honor of Worthy Matron and was a member of the Rehobeth Baptist Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hegwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Deal Baxley and Jennings B. Baxley.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Lee Shrigley of Dothan; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 25 at Williams Funeral Home of Graceville with Pastor Travis Free officiating. Burial followed in Big Creek Cemetery with Williams Funeral Home of Graceville directing.
Essie D. Carter, 91
Essie Douglas Carter of Greenhead died Jan. 19 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley.
She was a lifelong resident of the area. She was retired from the clerk of courts office in Washington County and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chipley. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Bonifay, Chapter #325. She recently received her 50-year membership pin.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Kelly Douglas; her parents, William T. and Mae O. Thames; two brothers, Albert Thames, and George Thames; two sisters, Verma Singletary, and Evelyn Hobbs.
Survivors include her husband, Fitzhugh Carter of Greenhead; two sisters, Louise Williams of Perry, Mary Ellen Zagorski of Mexico Beach; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 22 in Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley with Rev. Lee Allen officiating and Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Eura M. Miller, 78
Eura Mae Miller of Vernon died Jan. 19 at Mariner Health in Bonifay.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie B. Miller of Chipley; one daughter, Shirley Ann Manning of Vernon; two sons, Earl Sheets of Mobile, Ala., William L. Sheets of Monroeville, Ala.; one brother, Marvin Condrey of Atmore, Ala.; two sisters, Belle Miller of Atmore, Ala., Lurene Madison of Saraland, Ala.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.
Memorialization was by cremation with Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
Crystal B. Cutts, 98
Crystal Bertha Cutts of Tarpon Springs died Jan. 16 at Tarpon Bayou Center in Tarpon Springs.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Curry of Tarpon Springs; two sons, John Cutts Jr. of Roseburg, OR, Tedd Cutts of Byron, Ga.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 21 at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Henry Moore officiating. Burial followed in Holt Cemetery with Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
Betty E. Fitz, 73
Betty Elaine Fitz of Black, Ala., died Jan. 18 at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray Fitz.
Survivors include one son, Ronald J. Fitz of Black, Ala.; three brothers, Bobby Enfinger of Black, Max Enfinger of Pensacola, Donald Enfinger of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Glenda Enfinger of Savannah.
Memorialization was by cremation with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
Edward L. Allen, 77
Edward Louis Allen of Campbellton died Jan. 20 at the medical center in Dothan, Ala.
He was born in Troy, Ala., later moving to Jackson County where he had lived for more than 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church of Campbellton for over 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary B. Allen of Campbellton; four sons, Edward Lynn Allen and wife, Linda, of DeFuniak Springs, Kenneth Wayne Allen and wife, Kathy, of Cottonwood, Ala., Roger Craig Allen and Jerome Calvin Allen, both of Campbellton; one daughter, Debbie Allen Yarbrough and husband, Wallace, of Dothan; three sisters, Clara Mae Ellis of Zolfo Springs, Inez Ellis of Brundidge, Ala., Christine Wilson of Wauchula; three grandchildren .
Funeral services were held Jan. 23 at James & Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Jackie Register and Luther Pumprey officiating. Burial followed in Campbellton Baptist Cemetery with full military rites given by the American Legion Sneads Post 241. James & Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville was in charge.
Danny Lee, 48
Danny Lee of Chipley died Jan. 19.
He was a lifelong resident of Chipley and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his father, Silas Lee of Chipley; two sons, Allen Lee of Chipley and Bryan Lee of Knoxville, Tennessee; three brothers, Wayne Lee and wife, Barbara, of Chipley, Bob Lee and wife, Patsy, of Chipley, Roland Lee of Chipley; one grandchild.
Funeral services were held Jan. 22 at Wachob Chapel with Rev. Shane Skelton officiating. Burial followed in Orange Hill Methodist Church Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
