James D. "Jimmy" Bush, 66, died Sept. 17 at his home in Chipley after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born March 20, 1941, in Chipley, son of Thomas Ell and Vera Bush. He was a life-long resident of Chipley.
Bush was preceded in death by his father.
He worked in roadway design and project management for the Department of Transportation for 35 years. Then, he worked for Avcon Engineering for seven years, and was a consultant for Metric Engineering until he fully retired. He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his mother, Vera Peterson, his wife of almost 45 years, Annie Jo Bush, a son, and daughter-in-law, Eric and Angie Bush, all of Chipley; daughters, Carol Bell of Port St. Joe and Amy Bush of Pensacola; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alton and Phyllis Bush of Chipley and Curtis Bush of Dothan, Ala.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Helen Clifford of Pensacola, Betty and Larry Parker of Chipley; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life was held Sept. 20 at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Wiggins officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley in charge of arrangements.
Kathleen Johnson
Kathleen Johnson, 80, of Bonifay died July 19 at her residence.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and John Howard of Bonifay; a son, Richard Simmons of Marianna, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held July 13 at Grace Lutheran Church with Tom Loucks officiating and Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
The Rev. James Ralph Watford
The Rev. James Ralph Watford, 87, of Bonifay died July 8 at his home. He was born Oct. 30, 1919, to the late Mancy Watford and Susie (Hicks) Watford.
He was a veteran of World War II. A retired minister, he had served many Baptist churches in Holmes County. He also spent many years farming.
Watford was a member of Bethlehem Masonic Lodge No. 276.
He was preceded in death by his son, Lonny Mancy (Sonny Boy) Watford and two sisters, Pauline Williams and Myrtle Miller.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Inez (Ragan) Watford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Judy Watford, Rodney and Janice Watford, all of Ozark, Ala.; one sister and brother-in-law, Monette and Harold Gene Ward of Bonifay; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Services were held July 1l at Bethany Baptist Church with the Revs. Ike Stevereson, Ed Barley and Andy Glover officiating.
Burial was in Bethany Cemetery in Bonifay with Sims Funeral Home directing.
Fermon Brown
Fermon Brown, 83, of the St. Joseph community in Chipley, died July 9 at his home. He was a native of Washington County and was of the Methodist faith.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Brown was also a masonry specialist, and a member of Bethel Masonic Lodge 524.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Margie Brown; children, James C. Brown, Fledia Brown and the Rev. Larry Brown and wife, Judy, all of Chipley, Earnest Brown of Fort Walton Beach, Fermon Mack Brown Jr. and wife, Cynthia, of Jacksonville; one sister, Exie Lee Warren of Chipley; 24 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral was July 15 at St. Joseph A.M.E. Church in Chipley with the Revs. Sinclair Forbes and Larry Brown officiating.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Arbuckles Peterson
Arbuckles Peterson, 90, of Ebro died June 22 at Washington County Nursing and Rehab Center, Chipley. He was a native of Ebro.
A retired school bus driver, he was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Ola Peterson of Ebro; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Willa Peterson of Vernon, Laney and Saundra Peterson of Tampa, Charles and Brigette Peterson of Powder Springs, Ga.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mattie and James Brown of Fort Walton Beach, Margaret and Ronald Brown, Carol and Kenneth Brown, all of Vernon, Corine and Johnnie Hill of Lynn Haven; brother, C.B. Peterson of Ebro; three sisters, Madie Brown (Alexandra Sr.), and Lula Bell Douglas, all of Ebro, and Irene Johnson of Fort Walton Beach, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral was conducted June 30 in the old Vernon High School gymnasium with Brother Leonard Dean officiating.
Burial was in the St. Luke Memorial Garden Cemetery in Vernon with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Qumire Shackelford
Qumire Shackelford, 80, of Chipley died June 10 at Bonifay Rehab & Nursing Center. he was a native and life-long resident of Washington County.
Shackelford was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Chipley. Cooking and fishing were his passion in life but his greatest joy was his children and grandchildren and providing for them. He worked numerous years at Henry Arnold Ford Company in Marianna.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Rose Jean and Alton Everett of Sarasota, Allie Sims of Chicago, Ill., and Yvonne Shackelford of Winter Garden; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Reginald Shackelford of Winter Garden, Freddick and Valeria Shackelford of Tallahassee, Timothy and Shelly Shackelford of Bonifay, James Shackelford, Perry and Patricia Shackelford of Chipley; a stepson and wife, Kenneth and Cynthia Roulhac of Titusville; stepdaughter and husband, Regina and Oscar McKnight of Chipley; aunts, Mollie Cook of Miami and Maude Daniels of the Bronx, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Mary Shackelford of Orlando; brother-in-law and wife, Alton and Dorothy Roulhac of Chipley; a god child, Lenora Stephens of Chipley, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Funeral was held June 16 at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Chipley with the Revs. Price Wilson and L.L. Brooks officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Jobe Dontavious Shackelford
Jobe Dontavious Shackelford, 23, of Atlanta, Ga., died June 30 in Union City, Ga. He was a native of Chipley and had attended Roulhac High School.
Shackelford was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Chipley and was employed at a warehouse facility in Atlanta.
Survivors include four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bertha and Theodore Bagley of Jonesboro, Ga., Rodella K. and White Brown of Fairburn, Ga., Donanether Johnson of Miami and Allison Shackelford of Lithonva, Ga.; three brothers, Earnest Herring of Atlanta, Nathaniel Key of Duluth, Ga., and Ronald Shackelford of Baltimore, Md., aunt, Martha Bell of Chipley and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral was held July 7 at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Chipley with the Rev. Price Wilson officiating.
Burial was in Orange Hill Cemetery in Chipley with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
