Barbara Claire (Chew) Elrod, 65, of Bonifay died Sept. 15 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence Chew and the late Alpharetta (Potts) Chew.
Survivors include her husband, Carl T. Elrod and one son, Carl T. Elrod II, both of Bonifay; one sister, Maureen Marcirella of Miami; one brother, Gary Chew of Bonifay, and two grandchildren.
Memorialization was by cremation. Memorial services were held Sept. 22 at Winterville Assembly of God with Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
Bena Finch
Bena Finch, 94, died Sept. 23 in Crestview. She was born May 12, 1913, in Wausau and had lived there until she moved to Laurel Hill to be with her daughter, Frances Adams.
Bena and her husband, Douglas Finch, owned a farm just south of Wausau. She loved to fish in the Sand Hills ponds and was known as an expert angler by all her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson and a great-grandson.
Survivors include one son, Bernice and wife, Gerry Finch of Wausau; three daughters, Minnie P. Galloway of Wausau; Frances Adams and husband, Bobby, of Laurel Hill, Julie Snook and husband, Larry, of Navarre, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 26 in the funeral home chapel with the Revs. John Kelly, Carlos Finch and Buford Carter officiating.
Burial was in Gap Pond Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
James Smith
James Peter Smith, 27, of Chipley died Sept. 21 in Chipley. He was born July 15, 1980, in Marianna to James A. and Leisa (Stanton) Smith.
Survivors include his parents, James and Leisa Smith, of Chipley.
Memorialzation was by cremation. A memorial service was held Sept. 28 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Wiggins officiating, and Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
James Merritt
James E. Merritt, 67, of Marianna died Sept. 23 at his home.
Funeral service was held Sept. 26 at Maddox Chapel in Marianna.
Burial followed at Florida National Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel, officiating.
Paul Krouse
Paul S. Krouse, 72, of Bonifay died Sept. 23 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. He was born in Pennsylvania.
A retired carpenter and commercial fisherman, he had been residing at Dogwood Inn in Bonifay for the past four years. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
Survivors include his children, David Krouse and wife, Maria, of Chipley, Charles Keen and wife, Ovaline of Panama City, Cathy York and husband, William, of Bonifay and Sandra Gail Krouse of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Phyllis Overdroff of Indiana, Pa.; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was held Sept. 28 at the Tabernacle of Praise in Chipley with the Rev. Victor Fisher officiating and James & Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing.
Frank Mackus
Frank Mackus, 54, of Maspeth, N.Y., died Sept. 20 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was born in Ridgewood, N.Y., to Peter and Dorothy (Novak) Mackus.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Mackus of Sunny Hills; and three brothers, Richard J. Mackus of Maspeth, Edward Mackus of Ozone Park, N.Y., and Pewter Mackus of Quakerstown, Pa.
Funeral was held Sept. 26 at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Monsignor Francis Szczykutowicz officiating.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Lucas S. Bennett
Lucas Sterlin Bennett, 21, of Caryville died Sept. 23 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City. He was born July 11, 1986, in Panama City.
Survivors include his mother, Cynthia Ann Clemmons, and father, Curtis Bennett, both of Bonifay; guardians, Bobby and Glenda Hawkins of Caryville; two brothers, Kyle Griffin and Clayton Griffin, also of Caryville.
Memorialization was by cremation with arrangements by Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay.
