Willie Drew Miles Black Willie Drew Miles Black, age 73, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at her residence after a short illness. She was born November 3, 1933 in Appling County, and had resided here all of her life. She was retired from the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service where she was employed as a secretary for thirty-seven years. She was employed with David E. Miles Funeral Home for the past fourteen years. She was a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church, she was serving on the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurses Association and she was a past member and past president of the Pine Forest Garden Club. She was preceded in death by a son Richard Black, a sister, Ouida Miles and a brother, Patrick Miles. She was the daughter of the late William Bartow Miles and the late Clyde Neree McClelland Miles. She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Lamar Black: a son and daughter-in-law, Bart and Natalie Black of North Augusta, S.C.: five grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Thomas Gilman and Emma Drew and David Black all of North Augusta, S.C.: two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Fran Gegan of Jacksonville, FL and Betty and Carl Adams of Sadona, AZ. Funeral services were held Friday, July 20, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Brown, Rev. Jack Peeler, Rev. Ron Ross and Sister Elena Thompson officiating. Blanche C. King, age 69, died Sunday, July 15, 2007 at her residence after a short illness. She was a native of Bryan County, but had lived in Baxley, for most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Midway Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Olen C. Carter and the late Pearl Anderson Carter. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, J.W. King of Baxley: four sons and daughters-in-law, Mike King of Baxley, Mark and Susan King of Richmond Hill, Matt and Donna King of Richmond Hill, and Jeffery and Kimberly King of Richmond Hill: three sisters, Myrtle Lee of Columbus, GA, Carrie Jean Cannon of Dothan, Alabama, and Peggy McClain of Phoenix City, Alabama: a brother, Olen Lewis Carter of Baxley: twelve grandchildren, James William King, III, Amanda King, Destiny West, Mica Gunn, Michael King Jr., Dustin King, Amie Santini, Matthew King, Mallory King, Kerrigan King, Dustin Harrelson, Kilye Harrelson. Nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of David E. Robert Leggett, age 82, died Saturday, July 7, 2007 in the Appling Health Care after a long illness. He was born May 4, 1925 in Appling County, and had lived here all of his life. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He was the son of the late Lee Leggett and the late Annie Perry Leggett. He is survived by his wife Erma Sue Leggett of Baxley: three daughters and sons-in-law, Polly L. And Tim Flood of Baxley, Patsy L. And Jimmy Sweat of Richmond Hill and Connie and Tom Sauer of Illinois: two son and daughters-in-law, Gary V. and Noreen Leggett of Baxley, Robert Lamar and Delena Leggett of Baxley: a sister, Elwanda Black of Orange Park, Florida: ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive. Estelle C. White, age 82, died Monday, July 2, 2007 in the Appling Health Care. She was born February 9, 1925 in Appling County, and had lived here most of her life. She was a housewife and was the daughter of the late Bryon Crosby and the late Dollie Walton Crosby. She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law Lola and George Poole of Baxley, and Willie Mae Lightsey of Savannah: a brother, John L. Crosby of Surrency and Albert Walton of Pooler, several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services were held Wednesday in the Smyrna Cemetery in Toombs County with Rev. Mildred Pickren Yawn, age 83, died Sunday, July 1, 2007 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah. She was born November 23,1924 in Baxley, and had resided here all of her life. She was the owner and operator of the Dinner Bell Restaurant in Baxley, for thirty-five years and she was a member of Miles Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Pickren and her husband Mark Pickren. She was the daughter of the late Alvin Miles and the late Liza Mae Miles. She is survived by a daughter and Son-in-law, Marsha Eason Varnadore and Talmadge Varnadore of Hazlehurst: a sister, Annette Green of Baxley: Step-sons, Donnie Pickren of Jacksonville, FL and David Pickren of Baxley: a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, John and Judy Eason Zapf of Jacksonville, FL: a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Steve and Stephanie Eason of Baxley: Seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild also survive. Mrs. Ora Ruth Mincey Miles age 77 of Baxley, passed away Monday July 2, 2007 at her residence. Mrs. miles was born January 27, 1930 in Appling County, to the late James Bruce Beasley and the late Ora Sellers Baxley. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she fulfilled many positions. She was a Mission worker with the South Georgia Project of Church and Community Worker, Rochelle, Ga, charge. She was a faithful member of the Asbury United Methodist Women. She was a dedicated School Teacher for 35 years at Altamaha School. A loving Mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mincey. Survivors include a Daughter & Son-in-law, Claudia and William Courson of Baxley; Son and Daughter-in-law, Charlie and Mandy Mincey of Baxley; Sister, Gwen Upchurch of Baxley; grandchildren, Robby & Susan Courson; Archie & Gwen Courson; Casey Mincey; Shannon Mincey; great-grandchildren Hannah Courson, Will Courson, and Nicholas Spell. 9 Nieces and Nephews also survive.
