Ruby Dell Morris Crabb, age 67, of Ailey, GA died Saturday, May 23, 2009 in Baldwyn, Mississippi. She was born September 5, 1941 in Appling County, and had resided here until moving to Ailey nine years ago. She was a homemaker and was the daughter of the late Monroe Hutto and the late Evelyn Nash Hutto. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Morris. She is survived by her husband, Ed Crabb of Ailey: two sons, Ricky Morris of Baxley, and Dennis Morris of Blue Ridge, Ga.: four brothers, Floyce Hutto of McRae, Robert Spell of Baxley, James Spell of Lyons, and Charles Spell of Baxley; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, at David E. Miles Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 27, in the Chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Service with Rev. Allen Richardson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Baxley Graveyard.

Lola Grace Beckworth
Lola Grace Beckworth died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the McDuffie County Hospital in Thomson, GA, after an extended illness. Mrs. Beckworth was born October 16, 1921 in Appling County, to the late Willie Samuel and Grace Hall Beckworth. She was of the Baptist Faith and was preceded in death by her husband, Abram Beckworth. Survivors include: 7 daughters, Christine Oxendine of Baxley, Myrtle Hogbin of Alexandria, VA, Clementine Schulz of Jacksonville, Fl, Merita Osmond of Plant City, FL., Benerline Walters of Valrico, FL, Janice Yee of Augusta, and Janie Jenkins of Watkinsville; 3 sons, Willis Beckworth of Gonzales, LA, Henry F. Beckwoth of Mitchell and Jerry J. Beckworth of Gibson. 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchilren.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home.

Leonard Ray Odom
Leonard Ray Odom, age 36, who died suddenly Sunday, May 17th in Alamo, Ga. He was born in Vidalia, GA, and had resided in Baxley, for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, R. D. and Ann Hutchinson and his paternal grandfather, Wade Merrith Odom. He is survived by his wife, Stacy C. Odom of Baxley: Son, Johnny Tyler Odom of Baxley: father and mother, Wade Leonard and Joann Hutchinson Odom of Baxley: brother, Larry Dewayne Odom and wife, Renae Odom of Baxley: grandmother, Lucille Odom and special friend, Michelle Reid of Baxley: several aunts and uncle and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home, with Rev. Nathan Dyal officiating.
Interment will follow in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.

John M. Carter
Mr. John M. Carter died Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Pavilion after an extended illness. Mr. Carter was born February 17, 1914 in Appling County, to the late Grover Cleveland and Pearl Blanton Carter. He was a member of Memorial Free Will Baptist Church and was a farmer. Survivors include: His wife of 76 years, Beatrice Page Carter of Baxley; daughter and son-in-law, Shelba and Ronnie Tucker of Tifton, son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Virgil and Betty Carter of Baxley; sister, Velma Kirk of Baxley; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Stanley Scarborough did Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Scarborough was born June 23, 1951 in Appling County, and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He worked in the blueberry industry for 21 years and was employed by SunnyRidge Farm for the last 8 years. Stanley was President of the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. Survivors include: His wife, Patricia Courson Scarborough of Winter Haven, FL; 5 daughters and sons in aw, Cheri and Ron Medders of Nevils, April and John Glenn of Union, SC, Brandi and Clint Giles of Brunswick, Carlyn and Rodney Hardwick and Nanci and Daniel Rentz all of Baxley; 2 sons, Jason Scarborough and friend Paula of Lyons and Monroe Crosby and friend Samantha of Baxley; Mother, Louise Youmans Scarborough and Father J.C. Faye Ivey Johnson
Faye Ivey Johnson of Baxley, died Tuesday morning, April 28, at the Southeast Georgia Health Center in Brunswick. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Baxley First United Methodist Church. Burial will be t the Long Pond Cemetery. Rev. Alan Miller will be officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Family Life Center at the Baxley First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Johnson was born January 7, 1926 in Johnson County near Wrightsville, GA. She lived in a number of towns in her childhood as the child of a Methodist minister, among them: Wrightsville, Americus, Willachoochee, Stillmore, and White Oak. She graduated from Glynn Academy and Andrew College and earned her Bachelor's degree in home economics from the University of Georgia. She married Hunter Johnson of Long Pond in 1948 and they made their home in Baxley, where he started a sawmill operation that eventually became Hunter Johnson Lumber. Mrs. Johnson worked for Georgia Power as a home economist before her marriage and then taught home economics at the old Surrency High School before raising three sons, Ray, Alex, and Jimmy Johnson. She was active in the operation of Hunter Johnson Lumber and enthusiastically worked in programs and activities of the Baxley United Methodist Church. Before her marriage, Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Caravaners, a Methodist college group that traveled the country working with local churches and youth programs. She was a member of The Betty Childs Circle at the Baxley church. She was a member of the Pine Forest Garden Club and the Georgia Historical Trust. She participated in several civic activities in Baxley, including service with the PTA, the Boy Scouts of America, the Baxley Planning Commission and the Baxley Tree Board. Along with her husband and cousins Sid and Claire Johnson of Vidalia, Mrs. Johnson restored the historic Peter Johnson residence in Long Pond, earning an award for excellence in restoration from the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. In addition to her three sons, all of Baxley, Mrs. Johnson is survived by her three daughters-in-law, Pom, Judy, and Miriam Johnson- a niece Kathy Barrett of Augusta. Her brother, Chuck Ivey, lives in Augusta. Her grandchildren are Keeva Kase, Thomas Johnson, Melissa Johnson, Carrie Johnson, and Doug Johnson.
Active Pallbearers are her three grandsons, and nephews Joel Manning, Charlie Smith, and Bill Barrett.

Julia Corneila Roberson
Julia Corneila Roberson, age 88 of Baxley who passed away, Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Pavilion. Mrs. Roberson was a native and life-long resident of Baxley and had retired as a sales clerk from Woolworth's. She was a member of Norwick Baptist Church in Brunswick. She was preceded in death by her husband Flem Robertson; two brothers: Cecil and Wilton Sellers; and her parents Isaac and Pearl Sellers. She is survived by her two daughters Elaine Enterkin and husband Doug of Copperas Cove, Texas and Lynnah Jones of Jesup; three sisters; Linda Altman of Baxley, Betty Beck of Baxley, and Welda Rush of Jacksonville, Florida; and one brother: Gerald Sellers of Baxley. Visitation will be held from 6-9 Thursday at David E. Miles Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Friday at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Williamson and Reverend Dewitt Corbin officiating. Internment will follow at Satilla Baptist Church Cemetery. Wilma Marie Crosby
Ms. Wilma Marie Crosby was born February 28, 1920 in Appling County, and had lived here all of her life. She owned and operated a farm. She was preceded in death by her parents: Lymen and Minnie Crosby, and three brother Junior Clifford (Peanut) Crosby, Winnie (Wink) Crosby, J.W. Crosby, and a sister Inez Johnson. She is survived by a brother: Joseph Crosby of Baxley: a niece Collene Miles of Baxley, Nephews: Terry Crosby of Baxley, Larry and wife Joyce Crosby of Baxley, Keith Crosby, Tim and wife Sandra Crosby of Baxley. Several other nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 25 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Reverend Lowell Lee and Reverend Doug Weisel officiating. Interment followed in the Satilla Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Charles Davis, Deryl Everett, Greg Carter, Stevie Smith, Dale Lynch, Clifton Mincey and Lafette Crosby. Honorary Pallbearers were the member of Satilla Baptist Church. Gloria W. Miles
Gloria W. Miles, age 86, died at her residence Wednesday, April 22, 2009. She was born in Emanuel County, GA, on April 21, 1923 and had resided in Baxley, for most of her life. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil R. Miles, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Grover Williamson and the late Neathie Keadle Williamson. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Dana and Clyde Dixon of Brunswick and Susan Avert of Baxley; one son and daughter-in-law, Cecil R. Miles, III and wife Shirley. Eight grandchildren: Chrissy D. Pearson, Allison B. Chambers, Lori D. Cauley, Jessica Miles, C.M. Dixon, III, W. Jeffery Beasley, Jordan R. Beasley, Cecil R. Miles, IV; 2 great-grandchildren: Marcus Benjamin (Benjie) Pearson, and Grace Chambers also survive.
Graveside Services were held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11:30 A.M. at Omega Cemetery with Reverend Tommy Daniel officiating and eulogy by Ricky Houston.

Maggie S. Davis
Mrs. Maggie S. Davis died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in the Appling Healthcare System. Mrs. Davis was born October 6, 1926 in Emanuel County to the late Sam and Kate Sikes. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church and was a seamstress for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robbie Davis and daughter, Helen Knight.
