Mr. Curtis Herndon died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in the Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Herndon was born August 14, 1925 in Appling County, to the late John and Mamie Ruth Mann Herndon. He was a member of Memorial Free Will Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He was a former member of the Baxley Exchange Club and Lions Club and was State Representative for 4 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Herndon was preceded in death by a brother John C. Herndon. Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Etta Mae Herndon of Surrency, daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Gary Cochran of Wetumpka, AL; 3 sisters, Edith Vitello of Surrency, Thel Riggs of Savannah, and Sue Daniel of Sylvania; 1 brother, Sam Herndon of Surrency; 2 grandsons, Clifton Avard Cochran and Charles John Cochran; 24 nieces and nephews also survive. William Blair "Billy" Henderson
Mr. William Blair "Billy" Henderson died Monday, April 6, 2009.
Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his father, William Crawford Henderson and grandparents, Sterling and Belle Davis.
Survivors include: His fiancee, Diane Thierbach; mother and step-father, Lena D. and Ralph Helmken of Lyons, sister and brother-in-law, Judy H. and Ronnie Lynn of Lyons; brother and sister-in-law, John C. and Melanie Helmken of Savannah; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Nina Young O'Quinn
Mrs. Nina Young O'Quinn died Friday, April 10, 2009 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick, GA.
Mrs. O'Quinn was born on March 11, 1920 to the late Mr. Benjamin Hubert Overstreet, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mackie Donna Neesmith.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Appling County.
Mrs. O'Quinn was preceded in death by her late husbands, Mr. Herman A Young and Mr. G.W. O'Quinn; sisters: Lucille Tillman, Adrian Moon, Ruby Sellers and Faye Crosby; Brother: Benjamin H. Overstreet, Jr.
Survivors include: daughters: Sada Nell Young Hollis, Nina Ann Young Jones, and Lou Jeanne Young Sanders, all of Baxley; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 11 nieces and nephews.

James E. Sikes, Sr.
James Edward Sikes, Sr., SFC (US Army Retired). Mr. Sikes was born March 13, 1931 in Baxley, GA. He was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 5th. He passed away at home after several chronic illnesses. He entered the US Army in 1947 and retired after 26 years of serving his country as a Medic in the Special Forces. He served tours in Korea as well as Vietnam. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and several other military commendations. Striving to be the consummate provider for his family he held many jobs throughout his lifetime. He was an LPN working several years at Memorial Medical Center and also as a master carpenter spending nearly three decades working on homes in the Savannah area. His passion was the job of obtained Baptist minister. He felt at home in the pulpit spreading the wonderful life changing message of the love of Jesus Christ. He was a 32nd-degree Mason as well as a Alee Shriner. No job was as dear to him as the job of being a husband to his dear wife of 53 years, prior to her death and that of being a father to his five children. Later in life, he added the all important job of being "Papa" to 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was a devout family man and loved by all who knew him. His love for people was evident but his love for God was the strongest who knew him. His love for people was evident but his love for God was the strongest. He was preceded in death by his wife, Brownie L. Morris Sikes, son James E. Sikes, Jr., and several other family members. He is survived by his daughter, SunJa Sikes Woods of Newington; daughter, April and son-in-law, James R. Williams of Claxton; son, Douglas E.; and daughter-in-law, Donna Sikes of Savannah; son, Mark A.; and daughter-in-law, Teresa Sikes of Guyton; daughter-in-law, RuthAnn Sikes of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Amber, Denise, Aimee, David, LeeAnn, Douglas Jr., Brandon, Sarah, Garrett, Katie, Benjamin; adopted grandchildren, Del, April, Crystal, and their mother, Barbara Crow as well as three great-grandchildren Ryan, Gentry, and Andy. He is also survived by five siblings, Estelle Pevey and Edna Sistrunk of Florida, Ethylene Hunter of McDonough; brothers, Donnie, Sr. and John Sikes of Baxley. He is further survived by his 95-year old mother-in-law, Elma Morris of Baxley, and brother and sister-in-law, Delmer and Carolyn Swindell of Guyton, GA., numerous nieces and nephews. James "Bull" Bullard
James "Bull" Bullard, age 55, died Monday, June 29, 2009 in the Appling Health Care System. He was born September 20, 1953 in Appling County, to the late John Dewey Bullard and the late Sallie Mae Beecher Bullard. He graduated from Appling County High School in 1971. He was a member of the Appling County EMA and Boy Scouts Troop# 472. Mr. Bullard was disabled and he was member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was survived by several cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Rev. Roger LaRoach, Rev. Royce Hulett, and Rev. Rick Brown officiating.
Interment followed in the Baxley Graveyard.
Active pallbearers were Winton "Wink" Branch, Willie Beecher, Lanier Branch, Lamar Leggett, Jimmy Carter and Frank Smith.

Zandra L. Catlett Woracheck
Zandra L. Woracheck, age 55, died June 27, 2009 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah. She was born August 23, 1953 in St Louis, MO, and had resided in Baxley, for the past ten years.
She was a homemaker and she was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph F. Catlett.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Woracheck of Baxley; two daughters, Alicia Woracheck and Lauran Lee Woracheck both of Baxley: her mother, Billie Catlett of Baxley; and a brother, Jim Catlett of Brunswick.
Memorial services will be held at 7:30 P.M. Monday July 6, 2009 from the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, with Willie Walker officiating.

Linda Carter Gay
Mrs. Linda Gay died June 25, 2009. Mrs. Gay is a lifelong resident of Appling County, and was the daughter of Emory and Nina Carter. She was married to J.L. Gay. Mrs. Gay was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where she was a pianist for many years and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. She was the past owner of Linda's Carpet Gallery. Survivors include: her husband J.L. Gay of Baxley, one son- Laney (Tina) Gay; four brothers- Lake (Catherine) Carter, L.C. (Rosene) Carter all of Baxley; Lavelle (Betty) Carter of Hillard FL; Lloyd Carter of Jacksonville, FL; one sister-in-law Shirley Carter of Callahan, FL. Two grandchildren, Logan and Zachary Gay of Baxley. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 4:00 pm at Riverside Baptist Church.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to funeral hour.
Interment will be held at Carter Cemetery

Barbara Jane Moore Price
Mrs. Barbara Jane Moore Price died Monday, June 22, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Jesup, GA after an extended illness. Mrs. Price was born April 28, 1937 in Liberty, South Carolina daughter of the late Jesse Lee Moore and Billie Hunter Moore. Mrs. Price a resident of Baxley since 1987 was a member of Midway Baptist Church, a hospital volunteer, The Woman's Club of Florida. She was cleared by the Secret Service to work for President Jimmy Carter during his campaign. Survivors include: 2 sons, Andre L Price of Orlando, FL; Eric T. Price of Brownsburg, TN; her brother: Marshall Moore of Baxley and 1 grandson: Scott Price. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Jimmy L. Moore and Gary Hunter Moore.
Graveside Services will be held Sunday, June 27, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.

George Gene Moody
Mr. George Gene Moody died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Jeff Davis Hospital in Hazlehurst. Mr. Moody was born October 18, 1927 in Appling County, to the late Mr. George Wilson Moody and the late Mrs. Lilly Mae Mercer Moody. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and was a lifelong resident of Appling County. He was preceded in death by sisters, Josephine C. Branch and Annie Ruth Howard.
Survivors are: Sister, Bobbie Fennell and Brother, Edwin E. Moody.
Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 231, 2009 from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home.

Mr. A.J. "Jake" Mincey died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Mincey was born February 13, 1932 in Winnsboro, South Carolina to the late Lester and Ethel Walker Mincey. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and a retired Bank Officer. Survivors include: His wife, Dorothy Jean Mincey of Baxley; daughter and son-in-law, S. Kimberly and David Neal of Maggie Valley NC; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Beti Mincey of Jacksonville, FL, Jeff and Deborah Mincey Grove City, PA and Tom Mincey of Apopka, FL. 3 brothers and sister-in-law, Charles and Helen Mincey of York, S.C., Gene Mincey of Columbia SC, and Bobby Mincey of Baxley. 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
