Lucille Walker Eason, 63, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, (Chatham Co.). Mrs. Eason was born Aug. 3, 1946 in Jeff Davis County to the late Hubert Lee Walker and the late Mary Bazemore Walker. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Loughry and Mildred Tootle. She is survived by her husband, Robert Eason, Sr. of Baxley; two daughters, Beth Eason of Baxley, and Pamela Hollis Sane and husband, Danny of Dalton; one son, Robert Eason, Jr. of Hazlehurst; one sister, Elouise Mosley of Uvalda; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Lamar Lee officiating. Interment followed in Omega Cemetery in Appling County. Active pallbearers were James Hall, Ricky Clark, James Eason, Don Lightsey, James Fennell and Clint Sellers. Honorary pallbearers were all friends and family in attendance. Musical selections were rendered by the Revs. Lamar Lee, Javan Anderson and Monty Lassiter. Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
Geneva James Reddish
Geneva James Reddish, 67, of Surrency (Wayne Co.), died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital (Chandler Co.) following a lengthy illness. Ms. Reddish was born on Aug. 11, 1942 to the late Albert James and Mrs. Essie James Henry in Wayne County. Geneva was a former employee of Wayne County Board of Education where she worked as a dietician. She was a member of Refuge Temple and later relocated to Surrency, where she became a member of Saint Paul Church of God. Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Reddish and a son, Robert, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Danny Dunbar (Margaret) of Odum and Randy L. Reddish of Surrency; three daughters, Jeanette Jackson of Jesup, Geraldine Brookins (Lorenzo) of Surrency and Darlene Reddish Gordon (Parrish) of Decatur; niece, Linda Walker of Hawaii; two special cousins, James "Boot" Thomas and Rem ncie Holmes and a host of grandchildren, cousins and friends. Visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 4 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church of Jesup. Arrangements were under the direction of Royal Funeral Home, Inc. in Jesup.
Glynn T. Carter
Glynn T. Carter, 64, of Glennville, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 after an extended illness. Mr. Carter was born Nov. 21, 1945 in Columbia, S.C., to Erion Turner Carter and the late Johnson Earl Carter. He was retired from Alltel Communications as a cable/splicer and was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church. Glynn was a beloved husband, father, son and brother. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnson Earl Carter. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Dasher Carter of Glennville; one son, Blake Turner Carter of Glennville; mother, Erion Carter of Baxley; two sisters, Linda Felker of Columbus and Janet Morris of St. Simons Island; one brother, Kevin Carter of Baxley; mother-in-law, Eloise Dasher of Glennville; sisters-in-law, Paula King (Ronnie) of Cumming, Mariann Rogers (Ken) of Glennville; brothers-in- law, Clinton Dasher, Jr. (Kay) of Glennville and Jon Paul Dasher (Missy) of Statesboro; a beloved pet, Rocky Dog Carter, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 6 at the chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville with the Rev. Vance Riggins officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Justin Morris, Clinton Dasher, Jr., Jon Paul Dasher, Ronnie King, Ken Rogers, Bruce Welsh, Colby Blanchard and Steve Steigman. Ethel Altman Callaway
Ethel Altman Callaway, 87, died April 4, 2010 in Appling HealthCare System. Mrs. Callaway was born in Appling County, on April 22, 1922 and had resided here all her life. Ethel was the daughter of the late Noah Altman and the late Josephine Walton Altman. She was preceded in death by husband, George L. Callaway, Sr. and a son, Ted Callaway. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Patricia Lanier and husband, George of Guyton; four sons, Marvin Callaway and wife, Brenda of Baxley, Jimmy L. Callaway and wife, Alice of Baxley, Cecil Callaway and Georgia Callaway, Jr., both of Baxley; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive. Memorial services were private. Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.
Queen Eva Williams
Queen Eva Williams, 68, died April 5, 2010 at RWJUH, New Brunswick, NJ. Queen was born in Macon to the late Mattie Lou and Herbert Williams Feb. 28, 1942. She was a resident of New Brunswick for 40 years. She worked for childcare in Sacred Heart School in New Brunswick. She was a member of Full Gospel Church of Christ in New Brunswick. Queen grew up in Baxley, and attended schools in Appling County. She came to New Jersey with three children, Annie Jean Williams (deceased), Sandra Delois Williams and Robert Charles Williams and started her life in New Jersey. Queen was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in New Brunswick for many years. She moved her membership to Full Gospel Church of Christ in New Brunswick under the leadership of Elder William Taylor. She was predeceased by a daughter, Annie Jean Williams and four siblings, Carolyn, Joe Louis, Jerey, and Junior Williams. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Delois (Sylvester) Williams of Valdosta; three sons, Robert Charles (Arlene) Williams of Baxley, Rufus (Tracy) Williams and Mark (Joann) Williams, both of New Brunswick; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; four sisters, AllaJean (Clarence) Morris and Sally Jean Williams, both of Baxley, Maryann Williams of St. Petersburg, FL and Louse Williams of New Brunswick, NJ; five brothers, Thomas "Brother" Williams of St. Petersburg, FL, Booker T. and Lee Otis (Kim) Williams, both of Baxley, Wendow D. Williams of Atlanta and Harris Lee (Josie) Williams of St. Petersburg, FL; thirteen grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Arrangements were under the direction of Anderson Funeral Service in New Brunswick, NJ. Services were held Saturday, April 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Full Gospel Church of Christ in New Brunswick. Viewing was held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial was held at Old Field Cemetery in Baxley, and was under the direction of Baxley, Funeral Home.
Hortense Kennedy Tippins
Hortense Kennedy Tippins, of Albany (Dougherty Co.), 97, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at Palmyra Medical Center in Albany. Mrs. Tippins was born March 14, 1913 in Appling County, to the late James Isham and Lois Sellers Kennedy. She was a member of Albany Christian Church and had taught school in Chatham County for many years. Hortense was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Celton Tippins and seven brothers. Ms. Tippins is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James Mell and Pamela Tippins of Albany; one sister, Frances Craven of Baxley; two brothers, Troy Kennedy of Winston Salem, N.C. and Dan Kennedy of Baxley; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8 from Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Buddy Harris officiating. Remembrances maybe made to the donor's favorite charity. Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
Wanda Leggett Gribble
Wanda Leggett Gribble, 62, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in Appling HealthCare System. Mrs. Gribble was born May 12, 1947 in Bacon County to the late Carlos Leggett and Mattie Mathis Leggett. She was a member of Oak Grove Church of God. Wanda was preceded in death by a son, Earl "Buck" Gribble. Mrs. Gribble is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl "Rowdy" and Patty Gribble of Baxley, and Paul and Barbara Gribble of Ducktown, TN; one sister, Velma "Smokie" Strailey of Baxley; two brothers, Thomas "Buddy" Leggett of Alma and Michael Webb Leggett of Baxley; eight grandchildren, five great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 9 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Bryant officiating. Interment followed in Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery in Bacon County. Active pallbearers were Carl Stone, Mitch Jones, Blake Jones, Carl Leggett, Steven Duncan and Johnny Davis. Musical selections were rendered by Ann Stone. Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
David Earl "Scooter" Beckworth
David Earl "Scooter" Beckworth, 30, of Hazlehurst, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, (Chatham Co.). Mr. Beckworth was born May 17, 1979 in Ware County. He was a member of Baxley Free Will Baptist Church. Beckworth was employed by Iron Workers Local 709. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Beckworth, paternal grandfather, Farris M. Beckworth and maternal grandfather, Colin G. Quinn. Mr. Beckworth is survived by his wife, Beth Turner Beckworth of Hazlehurst; one daughter, Jorja Ray Beckworth of Hazlehurst; two sons, Haden Farris and Turner Colin Beckworth, both of Hazlehurst; mother and step-father, Terry and Raymond Thompson of Baxley; step-mother, Carolyn Beckworth of Baxley; two sisters and brother-in-law, Katrina and Jason Aycock of Surrency and Dana Beckworth of Baxley; one brother, Cole Beckworth of Baxley; maternal grandmother, Betty Quinn; paternal grandmother, Jeanette Beckworth, both of Baxley; and several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 9 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Revs. Ray Turner, Tommy DuBose and Rick Brown officiating. Interment followed in Zoar Cemetery. Wade Barfield
Graveside services were held for Wade Barfield, 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Surrency Grove Church Cemetery in Surrency. Barfield passed on April 17, 2010 in Hollywood, FL. He was born Jan. 11, 1960 to the late William Bennie Lee and Minnie Lee Barfield in Surrency. Wade was the thirteenth child. He attended school in Baxley. In his late teens he moved to South Florida where he discovered his talent as a young entrepreneur in the roofing and tree trimming business. He is survived by six daughters, Demetria, Ashley, Stacey, Felicia, Brittany and Keisha Barfield; two sons, Wade Jr. and Antonio Barfield; two sisters, Mary Barfield and Doris Shellman (James); seven brothers, John Perry Young, Lamar Adam, Larry, Jerry, Adolph and Frank Barfield; eight grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arrangements were under the direction of C. M. Brown Funeral Home of Baxley.
Love Etta Davis Kent
Love Etta Davis Kent, died Jan. 18, 2012. She was born to the late Mitchell Davis and Elizabeth Simmons on May 10, 1950 in Baxley. Ms. Kent attended Appling County High School. After high school she furthered her education in the medical field as a Nurse Practitioner. She had two children, Joe Davis and Joyce Davis. Later she married James Kent and to this union one child was born, Charles Kent. Ms. Kent was preceded in death by a brother, James "Jimmy" Davis and a sister, Charlotte Harris. Survivors include one daughter, Joyce (Tony) Thomas of Augusta; two sons, Joe (Althea) Davis of Americus and Charles (Tango) Kent of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Cabrien Davis, Terrell Thomas, Trevione Kent and Ethen Davis; her mother, Elizabeth Simmons of Baxley; three sisters, Pat Hayes of Decatur, Phyllis Hector of Atlanta and Tammy Cox of Conley; one brother, Fernell Davis of Clarkston; three aunts, Joyce (George) Skipper of Baxley, Lucille Coleman of Surrency and Annabelle Mahone of Atlanta; and numerous nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, cousins and other family and friends. Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon Friday, Jan. 27 at First African Missionary Baptist Church, Baxley, with the eulogy given by the Rev. J. M. Blair. Burial followed in Old Field Memorial Gardens in Baxley. Active pallbearers were Cabrien Davis, Jadon Harris, Trevione Kent, O'Randai Cox, Marquis Harris and Robert Harris, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were James Kent, Harry Skipper, David McCall, Wallace Dent, Nathan Skipper, Anthony Skipper, Eddie Dent, John Otis Skipper and Carlos Rooks. Musical selections were rendered by Theresa Hayes and Christine and Carletha Wright. Arrangements were under the direction of Baxley Funeral Home.
