Georgia Death Records, 1914-1940

Martha Miller Aulds

Martha Miller Aulds, 82, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012 at her residence under the care of Southern Care Hospice. She was preceded in death by her son, Willie Lee McDonald. Survivors are her son, Jimmy L. McDonald and wife, JoAnn, of Baxley; a daughter, Jeanette Cannon and Thomas Duncan of Baxley; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other family members also survive. Visitation was held on Wednesday, August 15, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services were on Thursday, August 16, at 11:00 a.m. from the David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Marty Anderson officiating. Interment followed at Midway Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Matthew Johnson, Aaron Crews, Tony Barwick, Mickey Dyal, Lee Gay and Donny Miller. David E. Miles Funeral Home was in charge of these arrangements.

Angelia Miles Britt

Angelia Miles Britt, 63, (September 2, 1948- August 17, 2012) died Friday morning at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, Statesboro. Born in Alma, she was a 1966 graduate of Jeff Davis County High School and attended Brewton Parker College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hazlehurst and made Metter her home for the past thirty-five years. She enjoyed spending time in her flower and vegetable garden, was a fan of dirt track stock car racing and Nascar. She was a caring homemaker devoted to her family and especially enjoyed family time spent at the beach. Angelia was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Willis Miles, Sr. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Carl Thomas Britt of Metter; daughters, Carla (Jake) Bowron of Atlanta, Meechel (Cliff) Finley of Statesboro, Tonja (Ray) Sellers of Tifton; father, Jewell (Margaret) Miles of Hazlehurst; mother, Vonceil (Jay) Beck of Baxley; brother, Hershel (Solita) Miles of Hazlehurst; sister, Donnette (Mike) Williams of Baxley, and six grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Kennedy Morgan Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel with the Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial followed in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Baxley. Visitation was held Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 at the funeral home. Kennedy Morgan Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Wesley Griffin, Jr.

Wesley Griffin, Jr., 76, died Friday, August 10, 2012 in Appling Healthcare System. Griffin was born Jan. 29, 1936 in Appling County, to the late James "Jim" Washington Griffin and the late Sadie Johnson Griffin. He was a member of Altamaha Baptist Church. Wesley was a logger with Wallace Carter and Sons for many years. Survivors include his wife, Betty Rowell Griffin of Baxley; two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Jean Yawn and Linda Ann and Stewart Campbell of Baxley; one son and daughter-in-law, Choo-Choo John and Christy Griffin of Baxley; two sisters, Mary Lou Reynolds and Betty Livingston; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Lillian Simmons; 11 grandchildren: Jennifer and Tony Merritt, Joshua David and Jana Yawn, Dillon Jake and Jessie Bass, Colby Ridge Griffin, Casey Ryan Griffin, Ashley and Blake Carter, Dustin Stewart Campbell and four great-grandchildren, Brittany Grace Merritt, William Tyler Merritt, Colton Gage Carter and Cason Burke Carter. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 13 at Swain Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Charles Hutcheson, Ronnie Rentz and Heath Webb officiating. Interment followed in Altamaha Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were grandchildren: Josh Yawn, Tony Merritt, Colby Griffin, Casey Griffin, Dillon Bass and Dustin Campbell. Honorary pallbearers were Altamaha Home Health Care, Dr. Orlando Fernando and staff, Dr. Teresa Cezar and staff, Eugene and Peggy Lott, Greg and Amy Carter, Vann and Linda Carter, Wayne and Tammie Lott, Lewis and Sherry Carter, members of Altamaha Baptist Church, Adam and Lorie Carter, Jimmy Crosby, Wayne and Andrea Herrington, Dave Sellers, Bill and June Campbell, Mark and Carol Barnes and staff, Linda Williams, Bonnie Carter and Ora Lee Carter. Musical selections were rendered by Lori Lewis, Nell Mullis and Kenny Hutcheson. Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Louise Arnold Haynes

Louise Arnold Haynes, 94, died Friday, July 20, 2012 in Satilla Hospice House in Waycross. Louise was born June 30, 1918 in Appling County, and had resided here all of her life. She was retired and had worked with Ship-n-Shore Manufacturing. Ms. Haynes was a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick "Boozer" Arnold and sisters, Lois Williams, Beatrice Vaughn, Opal Davis, Sallie Claxton and Martha Thorpe. Louise was the daughter of the late Patrick Arnold and the late Bessie Mobley Arnold. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra and husband, Billy Miles of Waycross, Pat Cain Hayes of Waycross and Bonnette Cain Smith of Eastman; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marty Anderson Officiating. Interment followed in Omega Cemetery. Active pallbearers were grandsons: Mike Hayes, Mark Miles, Chris Smith, Keith Hayes, Aaron Overstreet, Logan Beverly and Brandon Hayes. Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.

William Jefferson "Bud" Williams\

William Jefferson "Bud" Williams, 68, of Lowgap, North Carolina, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in North Carolina. Bud was born May 30, 1944 in Appling County. He was of the Baptist Faith and was the owner and operator of Carolina Communications. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Williams, a brother, J. M. Williams and half-sister, Verna Jean Bennett. Survivors include his wife, Sybil Ann Williams; daughter, Jolie Leeann Williams, both of Lowgap, N.C.; his mother, Beatrice Dean; two sisters, Betty Jo Varnadore of Warner Robins and Elizabeth Stone of Hazlehurst; two half-sisters, Florice Luithle of Hudson, FL and Janice Torrez of North Carolina; and two half-brothers, Pete Williams of Vidalia and BoBo Williams. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 12 at Zoar Baptist Church with the Revs. Virginia Herrington and J. E. Blanton officiating. Interment followed in Zoar Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Roger Branch, Ricky Branch, Jeff Williams, Davey Barlow, Terry Williams and Colby Griffin. Music was rendered by Debbie Taylor. Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Erma Sue Ricketson Leggett

Erma Sue Ricketson Leggett, 78, died Sunday, August 19, 2012. Erma was born Dec. 29, 1933 in Coffee County, to the late Jessie Carver Ricketson and the late Pauline Smith Ricketson. She was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church. Ms. Leggett was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leggett. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Polly and Tim Flood of Baxley, and Patsy and Jimmy Sweat of Richmond Hill; two sons and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Delena Leggett and Gary Leggett, all of Baxley; two sisters, Verma L. Bowen of Baxley, and Evelyn Smith of Savannah; one brother, Carver Ricketson of Maryland; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Erma Sue Leggett were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22 at Red Oak Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeptha Newberry, Robbie Gill and Tommy Davis officiating. Burial followed in church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Robbie Leggett, Gary V. Leggett, Jr., Josh Leggett, Cole Rentz, Doyle Leggett, Jeptha Newberry, Jr. and Micah Rentz. Honorary pallbearers were Red Oak Baptist Church Adult Sunday school class and all friends in attendance. Musical selections were rendered by Elaine Edwards. Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Daniel I. Miles
(December 16, 1959 - August 21, 2012)

Daniel I. Miles, 52, died suddenly Tuesday morning, August 21, 2012 at his home. He was a native of Hawaii, but had lived in Baxley, most of his life. He was son of the late Floyd Miles and was also preceded in death by a brother, Reuben Miles and a sister Melinda Thompson. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Denise Denner Miles of Baxley; his mother, Patsy Chavis Dyson of Millwood; his step-mother, Coleen Miles of Baxley; one son, Daniel Reuben Miles (Loretta) of Baxley; two daughters, Daphne Thomas (Jerome) of Baxley, and Debbie Rushing (Jason) of Surrency; two brothers, Michael Miles of New Mexico and Fred Miles of Baxley; one sister, Susan Hutchinson (Jamie) of Baxley. Also, six grandchildren survive. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Miles Chapel Church in Appling County, with the Rev. Doug Weisel officiating. Interment followed in church cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. The body was carried to the church at 1:00 p.m. Thursday to lie in state. Active pallbearers were Bill Register, Andrew McMann, Dewayne Carter, Tom Spivey, Lewis Chancey and Tim Courson. All others in attendance were considered honorary escorts. Crosby Funeral Home of Alma was in charge of all the arrangements.

George "Pete" Marlon Myers

George "Pete" Marlon Myers, 68, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at his home. Pete was born in Graham, to the late Make and Nancy Myers. He had worked for L and A Supermarket as well as Coastal Trailor and Truck Body. Myers served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an avid antique car enthusiast, loved horses and motorcycles. He was a member of the Krystal Breakfast Club. Pete was a loving father to his daughter and son-in-law, Marlene Myers-Ruiz and Paul; "Pee-Paw" to Ethan and "Pop Pop" to Aeden; sisters, Madie Rowland, Ila Jean Lane and Bobbie Spath; brother, Jimmy Myers; a number of nieces and nephews; and a number of friends, including Jackie Crosby and Bob Jolley. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. The funeral began at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial following at 2:00 p.m. at Graham United Methodist Church Cemetery in Graham.
Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Homes of Pooler was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Lee Rentz
(October 28, 1922- August 21, 2012)

Baxley - Ruby Lee Hutto Rentz, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 under the care of the Pavilion staff. She was a native and lifelong residence of Appling County; a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 26 years and was a member of the Joyful Sunday School Class. She loved playing the piano and guitar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Rentz and brother, James C. "Jim" Hutto. Survivors are a daughter, Laverne and Wilton W. McDaniel of Baxley; a granddaughter, Shelia and William Hand of Baxley; a grandson, Gary and Patsy McDaniel of Jeff Davis; four great-grandchildren, Lance Hand, Brett Hand, Jeremy McDaniel and Levi McDaniel; a brother, Charlie and Beatrice Hutto of Jesup; a sister in-law, Kate Hutto and other family members also survive. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 11:00 am from David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Earnest Dyal and Reverend Rick Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to the church or ministry of your choice. Active pallbearers will be James McDaniel, Clifton McDaniel, David McDaniel, William Hand, Gary McDaniel, and Donald Hunter. Honorary pallbearers will be the Pavilion Staff and all friends in attendance. The family will be gathering at the residence of Laverne and Wilton W. McDaniel at 65 Michael Street NE, Baxley, GA 31513. David E. Miles Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.

Charles Glendon (Pee Wee) Stone

Charles Glendon (Pee Wee) Stone, 70, of Enterprise, AL, died Saturday, August 18, 2012. A native of Appling County, but had resided in Enterprise, Alabama for the past 16 years. Pee Wee was born Aug. 18, 1942 in Appling County, and was the youngest of 13 children and was the last surviving child of the late Jesse Thomas Stone and Lilly Mae Reeves Stone. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church of Enterprise, AL. Survivors include his wife, Joann Stone of Enterprise, AL; three sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Deana Stone of Tuscaloosa, AL, Rodney and Tracie Stone of Milledgeville and Stacey and Cathy Stone of Helena; one daughter and son-in-law, Katina and Shawn Alexander of Moore, S.C.; two step-sons, Nicholas Bowden of Atlanta and Jeffrey Bowden of Daleville, AL; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Graveside services were held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, Aug. 22 at Nunn-Wheeler Cemetery in McIntyre, Ga. with Dr. Michael Mynatt and Dr. Mack Amis, Jr. officiating. Active pallbearers were Jesse Stone, Terrell Stone, Ronnie Stone, Thomas Stone, Mickey Stone and Timothy Stone. Remembrances may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 Alberta Street, Enterprise, Alabama 36330. Arrangements under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
