Georgia Death Records, 1914-1940

Robert Wesley Knight

Robert Wesley Knight, 44, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012. A native of Jeff Davis County, was born July 16, 1968 to Donald Lee Knight and the late Helen Rachel Davis Knight. He was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church. Robert Wesley was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Maggie S. Davis and Eunice C. Woods. Survivors include his father, Donnie Knight of Baxley; one sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Gregg Kicklighter of Baxley; one niece and nephew, Cassidy Kicklighter and Will Kicklighter, both of Baxley. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 from Swain Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Wayne Williamson and Rick Brown officiating. Interment followed in Carter Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Gregg Kicklighter, Eric Hutcherson, Derek Park, Lewis Sikes, Will Kicklighter and Paul Hutcherson. Musical selections were rendered by Lorene Purcell, Glynda Reeves and the Rev. Bryan Gill. Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Ernest James Sanders

Brown Funeral Home announces the death and funeral services of Ernest James Sanders who died Oct. 17, 2012. Sanders was born to the late Leroy Sanders and the late Corintha Heard Sanders Feb. 8, 1948 in Appling County. He was employed with Akzo Nobel for over 20 years and he was a faithful and dedicated employee.
Earnest James married the late Aretha Sanders and to this union they had seven children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aretha Sanders, his daughter, Charmaine Sanders, two sisters, Lorene Davis and Millie Sanders and one brother, Ronnie Sanders. Earnest James was a very happy man. He loved to smile. He will be missed and remembered by his family, friends and everyone who loved him. Survivors include six children, Leon Sanders, Lee Willis (Felecia) Sanders, Lamar Sanders, Lennis Sanders, Katrina Renee (O'Neal) Lewis and Shalon Sanders, all of Baxley; 13 grandchildren, Brad Chapell, Tramaine Scott-Sanders, Ishmael Sanders, Sameqwa Sanders, Trevon Cray, Dennis Copeland, Sequoria Williams, Ashton Baxley, Gabrielle Baxley, Leedra Sanders, Samar'ia Sanders, Devin Tanner and Yobian Sanders; one great-grandchild, Camden Rucker; five sisters, Brenda (Sammy Lee) Thomas of Baxley, Melissa (Terry) Roberts, Colleen Sanders, Loretta Sanders and Contina Sanders, all of Waycross; three brothers, Eugene and Mitchell Sanders, both of Waycross and Jimmy Sanders of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Jean (Julius) Jones, Connie (John Robert) Thomas and Claretha (James) Smith, all of Baxley; dear friends, Delestine Sims, Shirley Gibbs and Earl Williams; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 from St. John Church of God in Christ with Pastor William H. Solomon officiating and Pastor Gloria Hood presiding. Interment followed in Old Field Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Lorenzo Thomas, George Phillips, Demetrius Smith and Dominque Jenkins. Musical selections were rendered by the St. John COGIC Choir. Arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.

Mottie Heath O'Berry
(February 7, 1923 - October 11, 2012)

Baxley - Mrs. Mottie Heath O'Berry, age 89, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the Pavilion under the care of Southern Care Hospice. She was a native of Wayne County and lived most of her life in Appling County. Mrs. O'Berry was a retried lunchroom worker with the Appling County Board of Education and a member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin T. O'Berry. Mrs. O'Berry is survived by three sons, Tommy and wife Sylvia O'Berry of Granitville, SC, Willis and wife Elnora O'Berry and Charles O'Berry both of Baxley; seventeen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter and wife Connie Heath; one sister, Virginia and husband Wade O'Berry, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Reverend Jimmy Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Active Pallbearers will be Randall Howard, Joe Heath, David T. O'Berry, David O'Berry and Ben Morgan. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Woodlawn Baptist Church, David and Cherie McCluney, Jose' Gomez, Crcillio Lopez, Ronald Burkett and Carmine Frateile. David E. Darlene Ouellette
(September 25, 1936 - October 13, 2012)

Hazlehurst - Darlene Davon Ouellette passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Pavilion in Baxley. The daughter of August and Eula M. Haviland Dhaene was born September 25, 1936 in Lansing, MI. She enjoyed making candy, chocolate suckers, baking banana bread and playing shuffle board in shuffle board leagues. She is survived by her three children; Retta (Richard) Hutto, Brian Ouellette and Brenda (Rolin) Peppel, her grandchildren; Brandi (Jeff) Hauser, Danielle (Noah) Trombley and Kelsey Hollies; great-grandchildren; Jayden Hauser and Lincoln Trombley, her niece; Diane "Dee Dee" (Dan) Wallberg and her nephew; Jimmy Dhaene, her former husband; Roland Ouellette. In addition to her parents he was also predeceased by her daughter; Denise Hollies Eastman, one son Edmund Ouellette and two brothers. At the request of Darlene cremation has taken place and the family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Waycross - Jose Guerrero passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at his residence after a sudden illness. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by David E. Miles Funeral Home.

Gordon Duncan (1 of 2)
(Died October 15, 2012)

Gordon Duncan, 68, passed away October, 15, 2012 at the Pavilion. He was a native of Johnson County and had lived the past 12 years in Appling County. Survivors include his sister, Bessie Wombles of Wrightsville and Claudia and William Courson of Baxley; a brother, Charlie and Marandy Couson of Baxley; four nephews, Robbie and Susan Courson of Baxley, Casey and Katie Mincey of Macon, Joyce Ann Brantley of Wrightsville and Shannon and Harley Studstill of Baxley; several great nieces, nephews and other family also survive. Funeral services will be Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11 am at the David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Marty Anderson and Reverend Thad Harvey officiating. Cremation will follow and a private memorialization will be at a later date at Asbury Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of The Pavilion. David E. Miles Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.

Gordon Duncan (2 of 2)
(Born August 6, 1944 - Died October 15, 2012)

Gordon Duncan, 68, passed away October, 15, 2012 at the Pavilion. He was a native of Johnson County and had lived the past 12 years in Appling County. Survivors include his sister, Bessie Wombles of Wrightsville and Claudia Courson and husband William of Baxley; a brother, Charlie Mincey and wife Marandy of Baxley; two nephews, Robby Courson and wife Susan of Baxley, Casey Mincey and wife Katie of Macon; two nieces, Joyce Ann Brantley of Wrightsville and Shannon Studstill and husband Harley of Baxley; several great nieces, nephews and other family also survive. Funeral services will be Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11 am at the David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Marty Anderson and Reverend Thad Harvey officiating. Visitation will be 9-11 am prior to the services on Friday. Cremation will follow and a private memorialization will be held at a later date at Asbury Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of The Pavilion. David E. Miles Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.

Winston D. Johnson
(August 14, 1943 - October 16, 2012)

Winston D. Johnson, 69, passed away October 16, 2012 at Appling Healthcare Systems. He was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County. He served in the Georgia National Guard for 16 years and was a Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his wife Amelia K. Stephens Johnson. Survivors include two sons, Shawn Johnson and wife Karen of Douglas and Stephen Johnson of Baxley; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Smith of Alma and Edith Bass of Palatka, FL; two brothers, Wilbur "Jim" Johnson of Jacksonville, FL and Carroll Johnson of Blythe Island; nieces, nephews and other family also survive. Visitation will be held October 18, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2012 at 2 pm at the David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Bryant Bishop and Reverend Keith Alderman officiating. David E. Miles Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements. (NOTE: Burial in Miles Cemetery)

Shelvia Jean Johnson
(February 21, 1937 - October 25, 2012)

Baxley - Shelvia Jean Fulton Johnson, 75, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Candler Hospital in Savannah. She was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County, and a member of Baxley Freewill Baptist Church. She worked for Miller Western Wear and Town and County Beauty Shop. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Runt" Johnson and daughter, Debbie Johnson Motte. Survivors include her six sons, John Johnson and wife Glenda of Baxley, Charles Johnson of Baxley, Dr. Keith Johnson and wife Patsy of Baxley, Kelvin Johnson of Baxley, James Johnson and wife Jenny of Jesup and Stanley Johnson and wife Tina of Baxley; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be held Friday, October 26, 2012 from 6-8 pm from the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 10:30 am from the Baxley Freewill Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Appling Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Buddy Aspinwall, James Twiggs, Dalton Lacy, Jack Johnson, Wendell Johnson, Jimmy Allen and Clay Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Graham and staff and the Adult Sunday School class at Baxley Freewill Baptist Church. The family will be gathering at the residence of Stanley Johnson at 76 Satilla Church Road Baxley. David E. Miles Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.

Elois Carter Carter
(February 5, 1928 - October 25, 2012)

Baxley - Elois C. Carter, 84, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Pavilion under the care of Southern Care Hospice. She was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County, a homemaker and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Carter and her parents, Eli and Edell Mincey Carter. Survivors include her son, Jimmy G. Carter and wife Julie of Baxley; granddaughter, Christy Reese and husband Rodney of Baxley; grandson, Brian W. Carter and wife Sarah of Baxley; two great-grandchildren, Mallie and Bentlee Reese of Baxley; three sisters, Ethel Beckworth of Baxley, Elaine Dollar of Baxley, and Lucy Beckworth of Baxley, and four brothers, Ernest Carter of Baxley, Edward Carter of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Ellis Carter of Baxley, and Billy Carter of Baxley. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 2 pm at the David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Reverend Rick Brown, Reverend Charles Hutcheson and Reverend Jerry Rogers officiating and music provided by Floyd Hunter and David Williams. Interment will follow in the Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Naomi Sunday School Class of Woodlawn Baptist Church, the Deacons and their wives of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Southern Care Hospice staff and the Pavilion C-wing Nurses and staff. Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodlawn Baptist Church Senior Adult Sunday School Class Account. David E. Miles Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.
