Edna O'Quinn Lee, 88, of Bristol, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Pavilion in Baxley. Mrs. Lee was born May 23, 1923 in Appling County, to, the late Benjamin Franklin O'Quinn and the late Rosa Lee Carter O'Quinn. She was a member of Lake Chapel Progressive Primitive Baptist Church. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Hazle Brooks Lee. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Robert Vasquez of Jesup and Karen and Glynn Switzer of Baxley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Paulette Lee of Patterson and Edsel and Vicki Lee of Bristol; three sisters, Mary Kicklighter and Geneva Pope, both of Deland, FL and Aletha Randall of Elijay; one brother, Robert O'Quinn of Paisley, FL; nine grandchildren: Lauri Bailey, Maria (Lorne) Stipe, Stacey (Roger) Collier, Scott (Jennifer) Vasquez, Lisa Vasquez, Jeff (Tiffany) Switzer, Morgan (Alan) Harper, Logan Lee and Dustin Lee, including 11 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 at Lake Chapel Progressive Primitive Baptist Church with Elders, Steve Flowers, Mickey Durden and William "Bill" Durrence officiating. Interment followed in church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jeff Switzer, Scott Vasquez, Logan Lee, Dustin Lee, Alan Harper, Brooks Stipe and Jordan Collier. James Hall
James Hall, 78, died Thursday, January 5, 2012. James was born Oct. 10, 1933 in Appling County, to the late James Harrell Hall and the late Margeret Rennie Vaughn Hall. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his wife, Dena Hall, son, Benjie Mincey; granddaughter, Penny Rebecca Turner; grandsons, Stacey Carter and Chris Turner, brother, Jack Hall and sister, Mary Ann Walker. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Ronnie Turner, Jane Morris and Janet and Curtis Forehand, all of Baxley; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Samantha Hall of Baxley, and Dane Mincey; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Ezra Varnadore of Baxley, Loreen and Raymond Davis of Hazlehurst and Katie and Earl Herrington of Orange Park, FL; ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survives. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Revs. Rilene Folsom and John Hutto officiating. Interment followed in Omega Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Woody Folsom, Jeff Andrews, Michael Shipes, Kirk Evans, Billy Wright and Levi Wright. Honorary pallbearers were all family and friends in attendance. Barnell "Barnie" Livingston Crutchfield
Barnell "Barnie" Livingston Crutchfield, 74, died peacefully Friday, January 6, 2012 at her granddaughter's home surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice Savannah. Barnie was retired from Segals and Sons Jewelry; a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield, and the Soul Survivors Sunday-School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Livingston and Snow Snead Rowell; a sister, Hattie Mae McNeal and two brothers, Shirley Stone and Buck Livingston. Survivors include her husband, Jack "Barry" Crutchfield; two daughters, Jan (Bo) Wells, Kim Beauware; one son, Ted Ray; one brother, Jerry Rowell; one sister, Ola Mae; three grandchildren, Mya Robertson, Billy Warmack, II and Branden Ray, ten other grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 8 at the Funeral Home. The Funeral Service was at 11:30 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Springfield. Robert Clark
Robert Clark, 75, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Clark was born April 1, 1936 in Appling County, and had resided here all of his life. He was retired and before his retirement he was a heavy equipment operator for 44 years and was employed with Appling County Road Department. Robert was preceded in death by his son, Robbie Dewayne Clark, a grandson, Lennie Smith III, and three brothers, Frank, Jr., John B. and Edgar L. Clark. He was the son of the late Frank Clark and the late Maybell Williamson Clark. Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Pam and Lennie Smith, Jr. of Baxley, and Vicky Milton of Baxley; one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Cindy Clark of Baxley; one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Doris Clark of Kingsland; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment followed in Zoar Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Benny Clark, Rick Milton, Shane Hunter, Jeff Pearce, Adrian Atkinson and Mike Rentz. Marjorie Carter
Marjorie Carter, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 in the Pavilion. Mrs. Carter was born Sept. 25, 1928 in Appling County, to the late Tollie Cason and the late Mamie Hutcheson Cason. She was a member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Carter and a daughter, Linda Ruth Carter. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Weldon Harrelson and Patricia and Randall Reeves, all of Baxley, and Connie and Robert Sargent of Spartanburg, S.C. and Lynnette and Joel Swager of Inman, S.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Tollie and Wendy Carter of Keystone Heights, Florida; seventeen grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8 at Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Daniels and Pastors Agnes and Randy Sellers officiating. Interment followed in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were grandsons: Justin Davis, Shaun Overstreet, Ryan Overstreet, Tollie Gosnell, Robert Lee Carter II and Mark Carter. Elither Pipkin Carter
Elither Pipkin Carter, 90, of Odum, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at her residence after an extended illness. The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County, the past 20 years, attended Jesup First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Naomi Sunday School Class, was a retired master seamstress, a homemaker, and enjoyed fishing, arts, and crafts. She was the widow of Elliott Thomas Carter, Sr. Survivors are two daughters, Mary (Lonnie) Ogden, Pat Giles, both of Odum; a son, E.T. "Skip" Carter, Jr. of Portsmith, Rhode Island; two sisters, Alma Beasley of Waycross and Edith Mims of Macon; four grandchildren, Jason E. McLain of Douglasville, Nina Phillips of Douglas, Timothy Carter of Bethlehem, New Hampshire and Meghan Alexander of Jacksonville; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Dr. Mike VonMoss and Pastor Richard Dobson officiating. Private interment services were held with the family at Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Lamar Pipkin, Richard Alexander, Richard Beasley, David Phillips, Cody Phillips, and Jason McLain. Gerald "Dennis" Burke
Gerald "Dennis" Burke, 73, of Jesup, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at his residence after an extended illness. The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County, for the past 50 years and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. He was a retired supervisor with the Department of Transportation, owner of Burke's Used Cars for many years, loved to buy and trade anything, and loved traveling to the mountains. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Bettie Ann Carter Burke of Jesup; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela B. and Al Copeland of Jesup and Amy B. and Kevin Coggins of Lake Park; one sister, Anna Lee Lightsey of Baxley; seven grandchildren, Chase Copeland, Chelan Copeland, Chelsea Copeland, all of Jesup, Colby Warren, Callie Warren, Kiep Coggins, Brinson Coggins, all of Lake Park; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Dennis Burke were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 at the Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. J. E. Blanton and the Rev. Dennie Waters officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jerry Boatright, Larry Boatright, Larramie Boatright, Terry Boatright, Hugh Burke and Richard Burke. Wanell Baxley
Wanell Baxley, 89, died Saturday, January 7, 2012 in the Pavilion. Wanell was born in Appling County, Jan. 29, 1922 and had lived here all of her life. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Baxley. Mrs. Baxley was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee Baxley. Wanell was the daughter of the late Troy Britt and the late Ethel Simmons Britt. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Ray and Mary Baxley and Wallace Baxley and fianc , Karen Creamer of Baxley; three sisters, Alice Griffin and Juanita Hopkins of Baxley, and Betty Blocker of McDonough; five grandchildren: Jason Ray Baxley, Christopher Lee Baxley, Clint Baxley, Kevin Baxley and Lacey Etters, six great-grandchildren: Jasanna, Chason and Rylan Baxley and Chandler, Jaden and Jackson Etters and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Brother Norman Carlson officiating. Interment will follow at a later date. Louise Jarrell
Louise Jarrell, 82, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in Appling Healthcare System. Louise was born May 21 1929 in Thomasville, and had resided in Baxley, since 1960. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Ambers Jerrell. She was the daughter of the late Willie B. Fulghum and the late Pink Fulghum. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Jimmy Stipe of Baxley, and Teresa and Hurb Hunter of Baxley; one son, Jerry Jarrell of Baxley; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Quinn officiating. Eulogy was given by her granddaughter, Ann Knight. Interment followed in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were David Coleman, Shaun Hunter, Derick Hunter, Roger Garner, Rodney Herndon, Charles Griffin and Tim Butler. Donald W. "Booger" Williams
Donald W. "Booger" Williams, 69, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the Carl Vinson Veterans Medical Center in Dublin. Donald was born Aug. 10, 1942 in Orangeburg, S.C., and had lived in Appling County, since 1999. He was retired from the B. F. Shaw Company where he had worked for 20 years as a pipe fitter and he was a member of the Local Pipe Fitters Union 150. Williams was a member of the United States Air Force for 11 years serving as an airplane mechanic. He was a member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church. Donald was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Allison Nicole Orvin and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Catlyn Orvin. He was the son of the late Bryant and Lurline Chavis Williams. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Williams of Baxley; one son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Kathy Bryant of Baxley; four daughters, Rita Orvin of Baxley, Denise Bird and husband, Kelly Bird of Baxley, Missy Eppig and husband, Chris Eppig of Akin, S.C. and Donna Roberson and husband, Bill Roberson of Ellenton, S.C.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, a god-child, Karlee Johnson of Alma; one sister, Betty Jean Hood of North Carolina and two brothers, Homer Williams and B.W. Williams, both of South Carolina also survives. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 at Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Daniels officiating. Eulogy was given by Mickey Craven. Interment followed at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16 in Appling Memorial Gardens.
