Thomas Nelson Williams

Thomas Nelson Williams, 51, of Hazlehurst, died Friday, June 1, 2012. Williams was born in Alma, but had lived most of his life in Hazlehurst. He was the son of the late Wynell Quinn Williams. He was employed with Beasley Forest Products and was a member of the Baxley Holiness Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Justin and Melinda Williams and Jason and Amy Williams, all of Hazlehurst; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jana Williams and Neil Carter and Janie and Kyle McLendon, all of Hazlehurst; his parents, T. J. and Donna Williams of Hazlehurst; five grandchildren, Cameron Williams, Brayden Williams, Abby Williams, Bentley McLendon and Colt Carter; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Cathy Williams of Richmond Hill, Jerry and Ramona Williams of Aiken, S.C. and Robert Williams of Hazlehurst; a step-brother and step-sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Lewis of Atlanta; and two step-sisters and step-brother-in-law, Terri and Brian Williams of Warner Robins and Kathy Phillips Acorn of Douglas. Funeral services for Thomas Nelson Williams were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5 at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Rilene Folsom and the Rev. Paul Smith officiating with burial following in Satilla Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jason Williams, Justin Williams, Delvin Williams, Ronald LaRoche, Bryan LaRoche and Arthur Quinn. Honorary pallbearers were employees and staff of Beasley Forest Products. Musical selections were rendered by Allision Smith and Julie Sharpe. Arrangements were under the direction of Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.

Jesus Bobby Toler

Jesus Bobby Toler, 20, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at his residence. Toler was born in Appling County, Nov. 7, 1991 and had resided here all of his life. Toler was employed with Spells Bee Company. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mildred Roberson and his grandfather, Bobby Toler. Survivors include his mother, Lisa Toler of Claxton; his father, Jesus Castillo Esparza of Baxley; two sisters, Jessica Esparza and Jamie Toler; half sister, Camila Esparza; half brother, Jesse Esparza and grandmother, Maria Castillo. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 8 at David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with Father Rafael Estrada officiating. Interment followed in Zoar Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jason Perez, Phillip Costillo, Arthur Villabose, Steven Vasquez, Larogue Jackson and Kelvin Lee Jackson. Musical selections were rendered by singers of the Good Sheppard Catholic Church. Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.

Hilton White

Hilton White, 86, of Alston, died Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Meadows Regional Hospital in Vidalia. White was born May 21, 1926 in Jeff Davis County, to the late Rowland Y. White and the late Lillie Creamer White, and had resided in Macon until moving to Alston when he retired 13 years ago. He was the owner and operator of White Tire City in Warner Robbins for many years. White was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jewell White of Alston; daughter and son-in-law, P. J. and Rick Turner of Corinth, TX; granddaughter, Caroline Turner and grandson, Bryce Turner, both of Corinth, TX; also two other grandsons, Kirby Videtto of Macon and Joseph Videtto of Moultrie; one sister, Mate Mundy of Griffin; one brother, Paul White of Hazlehurst and many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 10 at David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Max Newham officiating. Eulogy given by John Frazier. Interment followed in Bridgefore Church of God Cemetery in Jeff Davis County with military rites. Active pallbearers were Ches Spell, Rick Turner, John Youngblood, Mike Carter, Walt Swain and Shawn Carter. Musical selections were rendered by Jeffery Spell. Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.

Melba Wright Warren
October 13, 1925 - June 11, 2012

Services for Melba Wright Warren, 86, of Dublin, were held Friday, June 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin, with burial following in Dublin Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Al O'Quinn and the Rev. Larry Waldrep officiated. Mrs. Warren was the daughter of the late Stubbs Wright and the late Penny Peavey Wright. She was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church and the Naomi Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Warren was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Warren, brothers, Albert (Ocelee), F.M. and Sam (Mary) Wright, sisters, Matra Thomas, Alberta (Elmer) Dixon and a great-grandchild, Nathaniel Warren. Survivors include her sons, Mike (Bunny) Warren of Dublin, Phil (Jan) Warren of Baxley; grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer) Warren, Paul (Christy) Warren, Catherine Warren and Andrew Warren; great-grandchildren, Olivia Warren, Taylor Thrasher, Hunter Thrasher and Shelby Ann Thrasher; nieces and nephews, Jack (Nancy) Dixon, Jimmy Wright, Reggie Wright, Katrina (Don) Lynn and Patsy (Ronnie) Thomas also survive. The family received friends Friday, from 1:00 p.m. until funeral hour at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home of Dublin.

Reuben Holcomb

David E. Miles Funeral Home announces the death and funeral service for Reuben Holcomb, 90, who died Thursday, May 31, 2012 in the Satilla Regional Hospital in Waycross. Reuben was born Feb. 7, 1922 in Appling County, and had lived here all of his life. He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he faithfully attended the Joy Sunday-School class for four and one-half years without missing a Sunday. Holcomb was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the Baxley Masonic Lodge #195 and a charter member of the Baxley VFW Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Mann Holcomb. He was the son of the late James H. Holcomb and the late Effie Lucille Osborne Holcomb. Survivors include his daughter, Pat Symasek of Bristol; a son, Reuben Frank Holcomb of Baxley; special nephew, Curtis and wife, Ann Carter of Baxley; special granddaughter, Sandi and husband, William Bennett; great-grandsons, Bailey Bennett, Frankie Strickland, Heather Harper, Reuben Frank Holcomb, Jr. and four additional great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucy Yawn of Vidalia; 10 sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Quinn and the Rev. Kerry Steadley officiating. Interment followed in church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Doug Mock, Greg Mock, Tim Varnadore, Mark Varnadore, Don Griffis, Keith Blanton, Carey Griffis, Kyle Blanton, Joseph Yawn, Charles Yawn, Larry Britt, Mike Martin and Doug Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were members of Joy Sunday School class of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Buddy Cain, Janey Britt, and Bruce and Sandra Butler. Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.

MacKilee "Peewee" Miller

MacKilee "Peewee" Miller, 64, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at his residence under the care of Southern Care Hospice. Survivors are two daughters, Michelle (Miles) McMillan of Warner Robins and Sherry (Kendall) Conrad of Baxley; two sisters, Sarah Burkett of Baxley, and Joyce Roach of Surrency; three brothers, George Miller of Baxley, Herman Miller of Surrency and Elmir Miller of Baxley, and seven grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 20, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel. ,
Interment followed in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kevin Thomas, Michael Miller, Michael John Baxley and Shawn Shipes.
David E. Miles Funeral Home was in charge of these arrangements.

Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Scarborough (1 of 2)

Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Scarborough, 92, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at a local hospital. A native of Baxley, Georgia, and has resided in Jacksonville since 1949. Mrs. Scarborough was a member of Highlands Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Frank Scarborough and her daughter, Lanita King. Survivors include her 3 children: Edna (Pete) Andrews, Wayne T. (Roberta) Scarborough, Sr. and Leon (Marguerite) Scarborough; 2 sisters: Pauline Baxley and Barbara Ann (Dave) Arnold; 3 brothers: Hollis (Jane) Crummey, Rev. Charles (Betty) Crummey and Gerald (Helen) Crummey; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at PEEPLES FAMILY FUNERAL HOMES, North Jacksonville Chapel, 2220 Soutel Drive, near Lem Turner Road, with Dr. Winson Butler and Dr. Art Taylor, officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM on Monday, June 25, 2012 at the funeral home.

Minnie Elizabeth Crummey Scarborough (2 of 2)

Minnie Elizabeth Crummey Scarborough, 92, (born November 16, 1919) died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at a Jacksonville, Florida hospital. A native of Baxley, she has resided in Jacksonville, since 1949. Mrs. Scarborough was a member of Highlands Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Frank Scarborough and her daughter, Lanita King. Virginia Louise Williams Lee

Virginia Louise Williams Lee went to home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2012. She was born in Baxley, Georgia, on January 29, 1920. Louise moved to Jacksonville (Florida) in the 1940's where she met and married her husband of 61 years, William Arnold Lee, who predeceased her September 2008. She was a former member of Beaver Street Baptist Church and current member of Westside Baptist Church. Louise was a kind, sweet, Christian woman. Her children will tell you she was the best mother there could have possibly been. Her grandchildren will tell you what a wonderful person she was. She will be missed very much. She was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her son Dennis (Sylvia) Lee; daughter Janice (Jerry) Harvin; brother Vernon Williams; sisters Willie Ina (Billie) Trawick, Marie Williams, and Glenda Hook; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Monday, June 4, 2012 at Westside Baptist Church, 7775 Herlong Road, Jacksonville, FL with Brother Ray Mayfield officiating. Interment will follow services at Edgewood Cemetery.

Loretta M. Crapps
(Apr. 17, 1920 - Oct. 31, 2012)

Loretta M. Crapps, 92, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 in the Pavilion. Loretta was born April 17, 1920 in Canada, to the late Adrien Hebert and the late Flora Marie Lucier Hebert. She was a member of St. Rose Lima of Catholic Church and the Heritage Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Horace Crapps. Survivors include her daughter, Terri Johnson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sons, Tommie Crapps of Virginia Beach, VA, Larry Crapps of Buford and Martin Crapps of Baxley; one sister, Anita Johnston of Hawaii; one brother, Gilbert Hebert of Clayton; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Wilson Crapps and wife, Iris Jean of Baxley, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Loretta Crapps were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Father Rafael Estrada officiating. Interment followed in Miles Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Tommie Crapps, Larry Crapps, Robert Crapps, John Crapps, John Johnson and Mike Ellis. Honorary pallbearers were her special family from the Heritage Center and friends and staff of the Pavilion. Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
