Elois Carter Carter, 84, (born Feb. 5, 1928) passed away Thursday, October 25, at the Pavilion under the care of Southern Care Hospice. She was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County, a homemaker and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Carter and her parents, Eli and Edell Mincey Carter. Survivors include her son, Jimmy G. Carter and wife Julie of Baxley; granddaughter, Christy Reese and husband Rodney of Baxley; grandson, Brian W. Carter and wife Sarah of Baxley; two great-grandchildren, Mallie and Bentlee Reese of Baxley; three sisters, Ethel Beckworth of Baxley, Elaine Dollar of Baxley, and Lucy Beckworth of Baxley, and four brothers, Ernest Carter of Baxley, Edward Carter of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Ellis Carter of Baxley, and Billy Carter of Baxley. Visitation was held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 6:00 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service was held on Sunday, October 28, at 2:00 p.m. at the David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Reverend Rick Brown, the Reverend Charles Hutcheson and the Reverend Jerry Rogers officiating and music was provided by Floyd Hunter and David Williams. Interment followed in the Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her nephews. Honorary pallbearers were the Naomi Sunday School Class of Woodlawn Baptist Church, the Deacons and their wives of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Southern Care Hospice staff and the Pavilion C-wing Nurses and staff. Baylee Elizabeth Brewer
Baylee Elizabeth Brewer, 9, of Surrency, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. Baylee was born Sept. 19, 2003. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Baylee was a third grade student at Fourth District Elementary School where she was in the Show Choir was on high honor roll and received the President's Award. She was preceded in death by an uncle, Chris Turner, aunt, Penny Rebecca Turner, great-grandparents, Emory and Lillie Turner, great-grandmother, Helen Stone, great-grandfather, James Hall and great-grandmother, Grace Brewer. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Angela and Chris Murray of Surrency; her father and stepmother, Caleb and Pam Brewer of Blackshear; three sisters, Lillie Brewer, Raigen Murray and Skylar Murray, all of Surrency; four brothers, Austin Brewer of Surrency, Nathan Brewer of Blackshear, and Auden Murray and Chance Murray, both of Surrency; maternal grandparents, Ronnie and Joyce Turner; paternal grandfather, Jimmy Brewer; Patty and Johnny Batten; maternal great-grandmother, Thelma Herndon; and paternal great-grandfather, Willis Brewer. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Nov. 10 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Reverends Fred Anderson, Darrell Quinn, and Loren Bryant officiating. Interment followed in Tomberlin-Paulk Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Landon Carter, Rusty Weaver, Kaden Graham and Cody Hallman. Marty Davis, 55, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Marty was born on Feb. 21, 1957 in Alma, to Martin and Myrtice (Hall) Davis. He was a 1975 graduate of Appling County High School and was currently working for Northwest Electric of Lincoln, NE as Supervisor of Sales for the past 11 years. Marty was preceded in death by parents, Martin Davis and Myrtice (Davis) Beck; step-father, Melvin Beck; brother, Maryland Davis and two nieces and one nephew. Survivors include wife, Joan (Black) Davis of Lincoln, NE; two daughters, Nicole Davis of Raleigh, N.C. and Melissa Davis of Omaha, NE; one grandson, Jonathan Davis of Raleigh, N.C.; one granddaughter, Gianna Davis of Omaha, NE; brother and sister-in-law, Mickey and Sue Davis of Baxley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Fred Barfield of Baxley, and Melba and Drew Herrington of Baxley, and many nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial services were held Monday, Oct. 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dunn Memorial Baptist Church in Baxley. Donations may be given to the American Heart Association or The National Kidney Foundation.
Edward Eugene Hardee, Jr.
Edward Eugene Hardee, Jr., 51, passed away November 4, 2012. Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, at Memorial Free Will Baptist Church in Surrency, with the Rev. Glenn Cranford officiating. Hardee was a native of Baxley, and had lived in Savannah, for a number of years. He lived the past year in Warner Robins. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Eugene Hardee, Sr., and his grandparents, Jack and Jane Hardy, Dock and Mattie Kent, all formerly of Surrency. Survivors include his mother, Judy Kent Hardee Knight; children, Candice Hardee and Ed Hardee; brothers, Ronnie Hardee, and Donnie Hardee; and sister, Lisa Hardee. Williams White Columns Funeral Home of Gordon was in charge of arrangements.
Missionary Patricia Ann Mobley
Missionary Patricia Ann Mobley was born Dec. 29, 1957, to Josie B. Wilson and the late Sherman Usher in Lyons. On Oct. 29, 2012, she gave up this earthly abode to live with Jesus in His Eternal Kingdom. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman M. Mobley, Jr., a daughter, LaRoysha Yvette Mobley and three sisters, Kate Sanders Mann, Linda Usher and Ruby Usher. Missionary Mobley attended the public schools of Appling County, and graduated with the Class of 1975. She was employed as a seamstress for many years before going back to school to obtain a Bachelor in Business Administration Management and a MBA in Human Resource Management. At the time of her death, she had been employed as a case manager at Appling County Department of Family and Children Services for five years. Missionary Mobley felt the call of God on her life on Jan. 23, 1983 and answered the call on Jan. 27, 1983 along with her husband and children and became an active member of St. Paul Church of God in Christ in Surrency, under the leadership of Supt. James Frank Carter. Over the years, she fulfilled many roles in the church. She was an active member of the Missionary Board and a licensed Evangelist. Patricia served many years as the adult Sunday school and Bible Band teacher. She also served as the Secretary of the church throughout her entire time at St. Paul. Patricia A. Mobley is survived by her son, Dr. Antonio A. (Tanisha) Williams; daughter, LaRaysha Y. (Andy) Mobley, mother, Josie B. Wilson; goddaughter, Jamesa; brothers, Tony Williams of Baxley, James (Aretha) Usher of Reidsville and Sherman (Gena) Usher, Jr. of Lyons; sisters, Betty Usher of Soperton, Gloria Wigham of Swainsboro, Loretta Nelson of Vidalia and Patricia McRae of Dublin; one aunt, Rosetta Usher of Lyons; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ageless and Pauline Mobley, William James Mobley, Eddie and Sarah Mobley, Dorothy and Freddie Ogden and Rodney Mobley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at St. Paul Church of God in Christ, Surrency, with pastor, Supt. James F. Carter as eulogist and with Simikia Wright presiding. Interment followed in Rachel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Musical selections were rendered by Bryan Holmes, Tammy Richburg and a combined choir. Arrangements were under the direction of Baxley Funeral Home.
Marvin James Pollette

Marvin James Pollette, 49, passed away Friday, November 9, at Appling Health Care System after a sudden illness. He was a native and lifelong residence of Appling County, and a member of the 1982 Appling County High School graduating class. He loved Nascar Racing and wrestling and was an excellent lawn mower mechanic. Survivors include his parents, Robert and Bobette Pollette of Baxley; a sister, Martha Diana Carter of Baxley; two brothers, Buddy Pollette and wife Michelle of Valdosta and Roger Dale Pollette of Baxley; a grandmother, Mattie Bennett of Baxley; two nieces, Pamela and Ann Carter; three nephews, Christopher and Kewame Pollette and John Barber; a great niece and nephew, Riley and Braxton Pollette and other family members also survive. Funeral services were held Sunday, November 11, at 2:00 p.m. from the David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Rick Brown officiating and music provided by Floyd Hunter and David Williams. Visitation was held one hour prior to funeral services on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment followed in the Friendship Church Cemetery. Robert "Bert" Bragan
Robert "Bert" Bragan, 52, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012 in Wayne, Michigan. Bert was born March 20, 1960 in Warwick, Rhode Island. Bragan was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Lamar Bragan, Sr. and two brothers, Thomas Patrick and Timothy Michael Bragan. Survivors include three sons, Shawn Patrick Bragan and Robert Lee Bragan, both of Oklahoma City, OK and Robert Frank Bragan, Jr. of Baxley; his mother, Patricia June Bragan of Augusta; one sister, Betty June Lewis of Bonifay, Fla.; one brother, Billy Lamar Bragan, Jr. of Baxley; fianc e, Daphne Strom of Baxley; one grandchild; one niece and one nephew also survive. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 16 at 2:00 p.m. from Swain Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. E. Blanton officiating. Interment followed in Beckworth-Swinson Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Duran Beckworth, Jimbo Crapps, Mark Dutro, Earl Beecher, Dewayne Bullard and Arlie McMillan. Amy Marie Hartley Goosby
Amy Marie Hartley Goosby, age 41, granddaughter of deceased Baxley Church of God members, Harvey and Mattie Hartley, passed away November 14, at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the wife of Joseph Goosby, mother to Brianna Kirby, Daniel Goosby and Erin Goosby. She is also survived by her parents, Lamar and Frankie Hartley, all of Jacksonville; her sisters, Connie Hartley Meekma and Valarie Cannon (Gary); aunts and uncles are, Lucille Perry, Baxley, Bonnell Doyle (Gene), Baxley, Stoney Hartley, Baxley; Eddie Hartley (Ann), Lyons. She was the aunt to Joshua Cannon (Terah), Jacob Cannon, Kari Moore (John) and Scott Crouse and great aunt to, Jovon Moore and Reid Cannon. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 17, at 11:00 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Jacksonville on West Ashley Street, downtown Jacksonville with the Rev. Mac Brunson officiating followed by interment in Evergreen Cemetery on Main Street in Jacksonville. The family received friends at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, from 5:00 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16. Judy Lynch
Judy Lynch, 62, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at her residence. Judy was born Nov. 9, 1950 in Bacon County, to the late Rev. Dorris Black and the late Ella Myrtice Crosby Black. She was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church. Mrs. Lynch was a faithful wife and mother. Faithful, loving and strong are words to describe this humble woman. Judy never wanted attention on herself, but she was eager to be a rock of support for her family and friends. From a kind smile to a word of encouragement to a firm nudge back on to the right path, Judy Lynch embodied a servant's spirit. Colossians 3:12 says, "As one who has been chosen of God, holy and beloved, you must put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." Judy Lynch wore these traits with dignity and grace through each and every day. She will be forever missed by her family until we meet again. Survivors include her husband, Dale Lynch of Baxley; two daughters, Pam Williams and Mandy Williams, both of Baxley; six sisters, Ellen Black, Elaine Edwards, Brenda Nail, Betty Taylor, Jean Orvin Surrency, all of Baxley, and Evelyn Gill of Alma; three brothers, Eddie Black of Jacksonville, Fla., David Black of Baxley, and Dewayne Black of Bartlesville, OK; special friend, Lyrissa Smoak of Baxley; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and 17 nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 from Red Oak Baptist Church with the Revs. Robbie Gill, Rick Brown, Darrell Quinn and Robert Black officiating. Addie Herrington Dubberly
Addie Herrington Dubberly, 88, of Valdosta, wife of Cecil E. Dubberly, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 after several years of illness. A native of Appling County, Mrs. Dubberly was born June 16, 1924, a daughter of the late Richard A. and Fleety Dukes Herrington. For several years, she was employed at Gordon Street School as a teachers aide and assistant librarian and enjoyed her time there very much. She was also a dedicated Pink Lady at South Georgia Medical Center for many years, and also a member of Woodmen of the World. Mrs. Dubberly was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church, Valdosta, and was in the Adult One Ladies Sunday-School Class and the Women's Missionary Union. She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Cecil E. Dubberly, Sr. of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, Cecil and Cindy Dubberly, Jr. of Valdosta; one daughter, Cheryl Dubberly of Bamberg, Germany; two grandsons, Daniel Dubberly and Richard Dubberly, both of Albany; one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Laura Lee Herrington of Anniston, Alabama; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, J.R. Herrington; and two sisters, Fannie Herndon and Betty Stephenson. The Funeral Service for Mrs. Dubberly was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta. The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
