Ruth Miller, age 60, died Saturday June 9, 2007 in the Appling Health Care after a short illness. She was born September 12, 1946 in Wayne County, and had resided in Baxley, most of her life. She was employed by the Appling County Board of Education for the past 17 years as a school bus driver. She was a member of the Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the Rev. Wilford Harden and the late Wanell Altman Harden. She is survived by her husband, William "Doc" Miller of Baxley: a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Wayne Branch of Baxley: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dwayne Roddenberry of Hazlehurst and James and Glenda Roddenberry of Irvington, GA: Father and step-mother, Rev. Wilford and Dottie Harden of Glennville: brother and sister-in-law Junior and Betty Harden of Waynesboro: a step-sister Uvonne Tillman of Surrency: eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. Funeral services were held Monday, June 11, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Taylor, Rev. Stephen Windham and Rev. M. L. Rick officiating. Interment followed in the Satilla Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Allen Spikes, Gary Spikes, Stewart Campbell, Dewey Altman, Donald Bellew, Durwin Griffin, Charlie Branch, Charles Branch and Randy Medders. Honorary pallbearers were the Appling County School Bus Drivers and all friends attending the funeral service. Musical selections were rendered by David Williams and Candace Branch.

Daniel F. Pinholster
Daniel F. Pinholster, Sr. of Cartersville, GA age 85 died Saturday, June 16, 2007 in Cartersville after an extended illness. Mr. Pinholster was born November 25, 1921 in Tattnall County to the late James Henry & Elisabeth Parker Pinholster. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the VFW and was a Mason. He was a veteran of World War II having Severing in the United States Air Force. Survivors included: daughter and son-in-law, Martha Elizabeth & Tony Cook of Newnan; son & daughter-in-law, Dan & Paula Pinholster of Cartersville; sister, Dorothy Belote of Macon; brother, Garland Pinholster of Ballground; 3 grandchildren, Tonya Hall, Danielle Cook, & Cathy Pinholster; 2 great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melissa Altman Pinholster. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 19, at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Minister: Rev. Rick Brown. Interment will follow in the Corinth Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 19 at 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral hour at Swain Funeral Home. Patricia "Patty" Oxendine Stovall
Patricia Oxendine Stovall of Warrenton, GA age 47 died Friday, June 15, 2007 at her residence. She was a native of Jacksonville, Fl., she was born July 12, 1959 to Christine Beckworth Oxendine and the late Wesley Oxendine. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 18, at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Minister: Rev. Jay Meadows. The Interment is Beckworth- Swinson Cemetery. Nell Craven Tanner
I would like to report the death of my dear grandmother, Nell Craven Tanner. She passed away this morning at 4:45 am at St Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, due to complications from a stroke. She was a lifetime resident of Appling County, and was married to her husband Rufus for 65 years. She is survived by her daughter Pat Tanner Tippett of Baxley, her granddaughter Chasity Saunders and grandson Blake Tippett and one great-granddaughter, Trinity Saunders. She will be greatly missed by all friends and family. Cecil Louis Nail, Sr.
Cecil Louis Nail, Sr., age 80 of Baxley, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007 in Wayne Memorial Hospital. Mr. Nail was born December 17, 1926 in Appling County, to the late Eldon Nail and the late Edna Yarbrough Nail. He was a member of Big Oaks Church of God and was retired from Hazlehurst Mills. Survivors include his wife, Nellie M. Nail of Baxley; 2 Daughters, Sue Sellers of Jesup & Patsy Ann Harrell of Baxley; 2 Sons, Jerry Nail & Cecil Nail, Jr. both of Baxley; 3 Sisters, Lucille Carter, Lula Mae Mullis & Macie Gay; 2 Brothers, LL Nail & John Nail. 11 grandchildren & 25 great-grand Children also service. Wilbur L. Rentz
Mr. Wilbur L. Rentz, 83 years old, departed this side of heaven August 29, 2007 and journeyed home to be with the Lord one step at a time at his residence. Mr. Rentz served in the Navy during World War 11. He was a commercial truck driver of 29 years and a member of the Teamster Union, and member of Homesville Masonic Lodge #195 F &AM. Mr. Rentz attended First Free Will Baptist Church. He loved fishing and playing jokes on people. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Carter Rentz. Survivors include his children; JoAnn (Johnny) Hickox, Danny (Elizabeth) Rentz, & 3 grandchildren Donnie (Zaneta) Sloan, Alesha (Randy) Rozier, & Jamie (Julie) Rentz. 8 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Chelsea & Dylan Sloan, Zachary & Madison Rozier, Dustin, Brittney & Katie Rentz. Others survived are his sisters & brothers, Wynell Holmes, Kathleen Carter, Quillian Garnett & Merlene Hall, Sam Rentz & Tom Rentz. His caregiver, Ethel Hamilton. Visitation will be Thursday. Annie Ruth Howard
Annie Ruth Howard age 75 of Baxley, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2007 in the Lumber City Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Howard was born October 20, 1933 in Appling County, to the late George Wilson Moody and the late Lilly Mae Mercer Moody. She was a a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. A retired teacher of Appling County Board of Education, a member of the Appling County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Appling County Arts Council. Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Knight of Aiken, SC; Sons, Gordon Wade Howard and Terry Edward Howard both of Baxley; Sister, Bobbie Fennell of Baxley; brothers, Edwin Moody and George Gene Moody both of Baxley. 5 grandchildren also survive. Visitation will be Monday, August 13, 2007, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Swain Funeral Home Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. from Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. William F. "Bill" Gregory, 77, of Baxley, GA, died Wednesday, August 1, 2007, of injuries sustained in a farming accident on his farm. The Chester, SC, native had lived in Appling Co., GA, the past 20 years, he was a member of the Lake Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, a retired Chief Petty Officer with the U. S. Navy, retired Appling County Bus Driver, Chaplain of the Screven Masonic Lodge #368 F. & A. M., & 50 year member of the Ocean Lodge #214, & loved woodworking, gardening, & visiting family and friends. Wesley Morgan "Buster" Hampton
Wesley Morgan "Buster" Hampton, age 91, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at his residence. He was born December 11, 1915 in Appling County, and had resided here all of his life. He was retired and before his retirement he was self employed as a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. He was a member of Harvest Temple Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Spell Hampton and he was the son of the late Sim Hampton and the late Maude Sapp Hampton. He is survived by two brothers, Wadis Hampton of Baxley, and Jake Hampton of Jacksonville, FL.: several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 8,at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Brown, Rev. R. M. Warren and Rev. Earl Wiggins officiating. Interment followed in the Friendship Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Gerald Spell, Ronnie Taylor, Brooks Taylor, Carroll Hollis, Steve Spell, and Clinton Gray. Michael "Chance" Wright
Michael "Chance" Wright, 18, of Odum, Ga., died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Brooksville, FL. The Wayne Co., Ga., native was a 2007 Wayne County High School Graduate, President of the Writers Club, a 2007 member of the National Honor Society, loved producing his movies and wanted to be an independent film Producer. He was to become a Freshman at Brewton-Parker College. He is predeceased by his Father: Roy Edwin Wright, maternal grandmother: Kathleen "Nanny" Dixon Thornton, and paternal grandparents: Roy & Grace Wright, maternal great-grandmother: Tyrus Dixon.
