Ossie Lee McCall

Ossie Lee McCall, age 92, died Thursday, August 2, 2007 in the Appling Health Care. She was born June 29, 1915 in Appling County, and had lived here all her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. A. "Arleese" McCall. She was the daughter of the late Riley Elmer Tomberlin and the late Louzenia Herrin Tomberlin. She is survived by two daughters and son's-in-law, Brenda and Marlow Waters of Surrency and Carolyn and Donald Davis of Baxley: a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Vicki McCall of Locust Grove, GA: a brother J. C. Tomberlin of Surrency: nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the Chapel of David E. Miles with Rev. R. M. Warren, Rev. Jerry Newell, Al Cox and Rev. Darrell Quinn officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Howard Tomberlin, Jasper Tomberlin, Hilton Smith, Jeremy Smith, Mike Beck and Lamar Tomberlin. Honorary pallbearers are The Altamaha Home Health Care, The Visiting Nurses Association, Georgia Home Health, Charles And Sandy Morris, Mary Pearce, Pete and Namoni Fowler, Todd and Leah Drew, Toosie and Roger Garner, The member of the Adult Sunday Class of Mt Vernon Baptist Church, The members of the Adult Sunday Class of Zion Church of God, Dr. Ali Rahimi and Dr. Orlando Fernando. Musical selections were rendered by Floyd Hunter and David Williams. The family will assemble at the residence at 37 Rainwater Road, Surrency. David E. Miles Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Adrianna Victoria Sharpe

Adrianna Victoria Sharpe, infant daughter of Robert and Lisa Sharpe of Baxley, passed away on Thursday, August 2,2007 in the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. She is survived by her parents Robert and Lisa Sharpe; sister, Abigail Marie Sharpe, Maternal grandparents, Winnie & Kevin Stephenson; Paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Cindy and John Roberson; Paternal grandfather, Barry Sharpe and Special friend, Peggy Lassiter; maternal great-grandparents, David and Ann Stephenson; Paternal great-grandmothers Frances Reynolds and Jean Sharpe, Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her great-grandfathers, Roy Sharpe & Thomas Harmon. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 7 until 9 at Swain Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday August 5, 2007 at 2:oo pm from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Tatum, Rev. Ronnie Rentz, & Rev. Rick Brown. Interment will follow in the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be William Harmon and Nathan Dyal. Honorary Pallbearers are the Appling County Sheriff's Department, Baxley Police Department, Hazlehurst Wal-Mart Associates, & Shelly Herndon. Charles Audie Williams

Charles Audie Williams age 53 of Stockbridge, GA. died Thursday, August 02, 2007 in the Henry County Medical Center. A native of Appling County, he was born October 1, 1953 to the late Zetta Mae Stone. He had resided in Stockbridge for the last 20 years and was a lead linesman for Georgia Power with 30 Years experience. Survivors include his wife Emily Williams; 2 daughters, Shanna Williams and Felicia Williams all of Stockbridge; 5 Sisters, LaTrisha Yawn, Marie Crosby, Darlene Stiles all of Baxley; Sara Jane Cooper, & Maxine Kauger both of Surrency; brother; Joey Stone of Baxley; 3 brothers-in-law, Jasper and Jane Tomberlin, Mark and Toni Tomberlin, and Howard Tomberlin all of Surrency; 17 nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Swain Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 4:00 pm from Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Smith, Rev. Jimmy Gilbert, and Rev. Julian Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery The family will assemble at the home of Mr. & Mrs. J.C. Tomberlin on Tomberlin Road. Active Pallbearers are Michael Crosby, Jessie Murray, Jerry Murray, Jerome Murray, Stephen kauger, & Jason Kauger. Swain Funeral Home is in charge of all funeral arrangements.

Ruth L. Griffis

Ruth L. Griffis, age 84, died Friday, August 3, 2007 in the Appling Health Care after a long illness. She was born April 1, 1923, in Wayne County, and had resided in Baxley, for most of her life. She was homemaker and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Marshal Griffis and she was the daughter of the late Henry Shadron and the late Lou Hand Shadron. She is survived by six daughters and son's-in-law, Willeen Creamer of Vidalia, Lorine and Marshall Moore, Murline and Larry Carter, Alene and Michael Beasley, and Ilene and Paul Branch all of Baxley, and Liz Rockchester of Louisiana: three son's and daughters-in-law, Earl and Debbie Griffis, Marvin and Lynne Griffis all of Baxley, and Virgil Griffis of Vidalia: eighteen grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren: several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at David E. Miles Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 6, at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Parks and Rev Al Butler officiating. Interment will follow in the Midway Church Cemetery. Mrs. Griffis will be placed in the Church to lie in state one hour before the funeral service. Active pallbearers are Eric Branch, Jarvis Lynn, Will Beasley, Brook Beasley, Chris Moore and Jimmy Lord. Honorary pallbearers are the Staff of Altahama Health Care, the Staff of Appling Convalescent Center and all friends attending the funeral service. Musical selections will be rendered by Dale Spell, Wanda Smith and Debbie Griffis The family will assemble at the residence of Earl and Debbie Griffis at 309 Gail Street. David E. Joann Carter

Joann Carter age 71 of Baxley, died Saturday, November 24, 2007 at her resident after a short illness. Mrs. Carter was born September 15, 1936 in Appling County, to the late Troy Edward & Eva Estelle White Beach. She was a member of Friendship Congregational Church and was employed by Tiny Tots Daycare. Survivors include her husband Everett Carter of Baxley; 2 Sons & Daughters-in-law, Keith & Robin Carter of Hazlehurst and Pat and Lara Carter of Baxley; Sisters, Betty Green of Baxley, and Joyce Adkins of Jacksonville, Florida. Brothers and Sisters-in-law, Terry and Gail Beach, Darrell and Wanda Carter, Wendall and Carol Carter, Betty Horne, Joyce and Pat Williams and Lillie Mae Beach. 4 grandchildren, Ryan Carter, Austin Carter, Zachary Carter, Emily Carter and several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be held Monday, November 26, 2007 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Swain Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 11:00 am from the Friendship Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Barry Teutsch and Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will assemble at the home at 464 Cleland Lane. Swain Funeral Home is in charge of all funeral arrangements.

Bayne Edward Williams

Bayne Edward Williams, age 67, of Baxley, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Williams was born October 30, 1940 in Appling County, to the late Otis Felton Williams and the late Odine Dudley Williams. He was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church and was retired from International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 474 & Miles Trucking. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Odine Williams, a sister, Marilyn McHan and a brother, Frankie Williams. Survivors include his wife Roberta Beecher Williams of Baxley; 1 daughter, Darlene Williams of Alma; 1 Sister & Brother-in-law, Gayle and Cecil Page of Baxley; Sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law: Lorene Brown of Clermont, Florida; Harold and Dorothy Beecher of Midville, GA; Junior and Carolyn Hazzard of Savannah, GA; L.G. & Christine Beecher, Bill and Henrietta Campbell of Baxley, GA. Several cousins, nieces and nephews. Special friend James Westberry. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 22, 2007 6:60 pm-8:00 pm at Swain Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 23, 2007at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennie Waters, Rev. Ron Ross and Eulogy by Dr. Steven Page. Interment will follow in the Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will assemble at the home of Bill and Henrietta Campbell, 1149 David Carter Road, Baxley, GA. Robert Lee "RL" Carter

Mr. Robert Lee "RL" Carter died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Carter was born May 10, 1923 in Appling County, to the late Martha Victoria Banks Carter. He was of member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church and was retired after 27 years from Sunbeam Bread Company and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the World War II. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Carter, Lester Carter, Grady Carter, Henry Carter, Alvin Carter, & Wadys Carter and sisters, Ester Carter Roberson, and Nell Carter Ellis. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Carter of Baxley; 5 Daughters and Sons-in-law, Linda Christmas, Janice and Weldon Harrelson, Patricia & Randall Reeves all of Baxley, Connie and Robert Sargent of Spartanburg, SC; & Lynnette & Joel Swagar of Inman, SC; Son and daughter-in-law, Tollie & Wendy Carter of Key Stone Heights, Florida; Sisters, Evelyn Carter Baxley of Brunswick, Estelle Carter Baxley of Baxley, Frankie Carter Apperson of Tifton, Lorene Carter Cason of San Marco, CA.; Brother, Monroe Carter of Brunswick. 12 grandchildren, 21 Great grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Visitation will be Friday, November 2, 6-8 pm at Swain Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Edwin Connor

Mike Edwin Connor age 64 of Baxley, died Sunday, January 13, 2008 in the Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Connor was born July 7, 1943 in Tifton, to the late Claude Morris & Velma Mobley Connor, he was a Member of Sand Hill Creek Free Will Baptist Church. he was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves and was retired from Rayonier. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. Survivors include his wife Janice M. Connor of Baxley; 2 daughters, Trina (Davy) Barlow and April Tillman, all of Baxley; 1 sister, Marianna Connor of Gainesville; 1 brother, Jerry Mobley Connor of Tifton, sisters and brother-in-law, Karel & Weyman Mobley of Ocilla, Gail & Ray Brooks of Adel, Sharon & Steve Curry of Tifton, and Nelta & David Kimbrell of Monroe, NC; 4 grandchildren, Connor Wilkerson of Leesburg & Mikela, Mikel & Joshua Barlow all of Baxley, 17 nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 until 9 at Swain Funeral home. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 15, at 11:00 am at Sand Hill Creek Free Will Baptist Church with the Reverend Allen Carter & Reverend Ches Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in Tifton at 3:30 PM. Remembrances may be made to Sand Hill Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 6822 County Farm Road, Baxley GA. 31513 The family will assemble at the residence, 6729 Buckhead Road, Baxley. Genora McLeighton Martinez

Genora McLeighton Martinez, age 66, who passed away Tuesday, at the Appling Convalescent Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Baxley, and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by brother, Linton McLeighton and was the daughter of the late Charles Warren McLeighton and the late Alner Williams McLeighton and the widow of the late Soloman Jacob Griffis. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Velva Griffis of Baxley, and Dwight and Becky Griffis of Baxley, one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and John Page of Tennessee: a sister, Betty Jean Murray of Baxley: eight grandchildren also survive. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at David E. Miles Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday in the Chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Kersey officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornton Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Tony Wessells, Tim Sutton, Garry Herndon, Paul Carter, Stacy Higgins, Michael Thomas, Travis Coffman and Dwayne Sellers. David E. Mary Gardner

Mary Gardner, age 71, who passed away Wednesday in the Appling Convalescent Center. She was a native of Coffee County, GA, and had resided in Baxley, for most of her life. She was a retired Nurses Aid and had worked at the Appling Convalescent Center before her retirement and she was a member of The First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Gardner and she was the daughter of the late James Swails and the late Alma Lee Courson Swails. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Wilbur Sellers of Baxley; several aunts and uncles also survive. Visitation will be from Friday, at the funeral home at 3:00 P.M. until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, in the Chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Davidson, Rev. Rick Brown and Rev. Andy Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Omega Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Dwayne Sellers, Darien Sellers, Leon Sellers, Paul Hodges and Mike Swails. David E. Miles Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
