ALBANY - Kathleen "Kitty" LePla, 74, of Albany, died Thursday, February 27, 2003, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital from respiratory failure.

A native of Valdosta, she lived most of her life in Albany and graduated from Albany High School class of 1947. She was a lifetime member of the Albany Humane Society.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Col. Joseph H. LePla, USAF (Ret.), Albany; two daughters, Kathy Sexton and her husband Larry of Albany, and Sally Jo Travis and her husband Col. Tom Travis, USAF, San Antonio, TX; five grandchildren, Carrie Mizell, Rachel Mizell, both of Albany, Kathryn Mizell of Athens, Anna Travis of Dallas, TX, and Daniel Travis of San Antonio, TX.

ALBANY - Emma Glenn Ramsey, Capt. USMC, retired, 76, of Albany died Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, March 3, 2003, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church. The Rev. Finbarr Stanton will officiate. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
Miss Ramsey was born in Selma, AL, and had lived in Albany since 1971, and was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church. She graduated from Foley High School in Foley, AL, and attended Darton College. She served twenty years in the US Marine Corps. retiring in 1971, and was assigned duty at MCLB from 1966 to 1969. Upon retiring, she moved back to Albany and worked with Modern Gas Company for eight years. She was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Fleet Reserved Association, Women Marine Association, the Military Women's Memorial Association and the national and state Right of Life Association.
Survivors include four nieces, Katherine R. Dubbin, Sandra R. Buffalo, Deborah R. Keeter, all of Houston, Texas, Karen R. Westbrook of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; a nephews, Roy M. Ramsey of Culman, AL; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte J. Ramsey of Deer Park, TX, Mary C. Ramsey of Niceville, FL; and several close friends in Albany including Nancy and Frank Hall.
The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hall, 423 Vintage Road, Albany.
There will be a rosary service held Sunday, 6 PM with visitation until 8 PM at Kimbrell-Stern.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Robert Richard (Dick) Young, 77, of 2403 Cherry Laurel Lane, who died Friday, February 28, 2003, will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Radium Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. Rusty Davidson and the Rev. Arvin Croy will officiate. Interment will follow in Union United Methodist Cemetery in Sumter County. The Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate.
A native of Lee County, Mr. Young had resided in Albany for the past 39 years. He was an Army veteran serving during WW II. He was retired from Turner Air Force Base and Pellicano Construction Company.
Mr. Young was honored in July of 2002 at Radium Springs Baptist Church and this day was dedicated as Dick Young Day and the Prayer Room was dedicated and named the The Robert R. Young Prayer Room. He was the church prayer coordinator and had spent 28,000 hours of prayer in this room and responded to prayer needs as he was called upon. Mr. Young had served as deacon and chairman of deacons numerous times and taught the Men's Sunday School class. He was scout maser of BSA Troop # 17 in Smithville and scout master of BSA Troop #14 at Radium Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Edith Dupree Young of Albany; two brothers, Henry Young of Smithville and Roy M. Young and his wife, Mattie of Albany; four sisters, Rachel Baker, Joyce Davis and her husband, George, all of Smithville, Nancy Greene of Albany and Sara Robinson of Shreveport, LA; a brother-in-law, Alfred Dupree of Americus; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.

GUYTON - Roger Leon Davis, 58, died Thursday, February 27, 2003, at Candler Hospital after a long illness.
The Sumner, GA, native was a member of South Effingham Volunteer Fire Department and Pine Forest Baptist Church in Sumner. He worked for Sea Pine Resort as a maintenance technician for 30 years. He was an eye donor.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Patricia Martin Davis, of Guyton; three sisters, Beverly Tillman of Moultrie, Verna Hollingsworth of Milton, FL, and Nora Paramore of Sylvester; brother, Jerry Davis of Albany; two sisters-in-law, Margaret McCabe and Genie Martin, both of Guyton; brother-in-law, Randy Martin of Midway; 19 nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and nephews; and beloved pet, Oliver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clydie Tucker Davis; sisters, Mary Willis, Lorene Davis; and brother, Jimmy Davis.

CORDELE - George Stanford Green, 79, of Cordele, died Friday, February 28, 2003, at Palmyra Medical Centers in Albany.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Cordele First United Methodist Church with interment in Sunnyside Cemetery. The Rev. Tommy Mason, the Rev. Eve Tomberlin and Lee Guerry will officiate.
A native of Cordele, Mr. Greene was born November 2, 1923. He was a lifelong resident of Cordele and had retired from the United States Post Office as a postal clerk. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the DAV, VFW, and American Legion. Mr. Greene was a member of the Cordele First United Methodist Church where he taught the George Greene Sunday School Class. He was a former superintendent of the Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, a member of the advisory board for The Retreat at Lake Blackshear, a member of the advisory board for Lake Blackshear Regional Library Board. He and his wife Josie were the original owners of Daphne Lodge and also a past president of the Crisp County Unit of the American Cancer Society. He was the son of the late Palmer Hamilton Greene and Myra Sturgis (Brinkley) Greene.
Survivors include his wife, Josie Carolyn (Parker) Greene of Cordele; brother, Charles Hamilton Greene of Lakeland, FL; 22 nieces and nephews.

HARLEM - Entered into rest, Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, GA, William Ross Tye, 91, husband of the late Dorothy Howard Tye.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Harlem United Methodist Church. Interment was held at 1 p.m. Friday at Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Edison. The Rev. Lamar Burkett officiated.
Mr. Tye, a native of Edison, GA, was a retired County Extension Agent of 35 years. He was a member of Harlem United Methodist Church. He was past president of the Georgia County Agent Association, past president of the Harlem Rotary Club from 1974-1975. He was a 1934 graduate of the University of Georgia. He was past president of Epsilon Sigma Five - Honorary Extension Fraternity.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane Tye Jordan of Hickory, N.C., and Leila Tye Whitaker of Lexington, S.C.; one sister, Mary Tye Knox of Alpharetta, GA; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A native of Barbour County, AL, Mrs. Williams was born March 10, 1918. She was a housewife and a member of Cooks Union Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Williams; a son, Max Williams; and a daughter, Linda Yon.
