Funeral services will be held today (Sunday) at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery in Clay County. The Rev. Jimmy Cox will officiate.
Pallbearers are Eugene Cox, Dalton Cox, Allen Cox, Robert Cox, Jimmy McMullen, and Paul Williams; and honorary pallbearers are Will Spurlock, Dale Spurlock, Bubby Spurlock, Charles Cox, Larry Duke and G.L. Higgenbotham.
Born in Clay County, GA, on November 25, 1930, Mr. Brookins was the son of the late Edward Brookins Sr. and Annie Mae Miller Brookins. He was retired from Brookins Constructions and Logging Co. and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was the widow of Ruby Evelyn Duke Brookins.
Survivors include three daughters, Bobbie Jean and husband, Stan Norris of Alexandria, VA, Faye R. Collins of Blakely, and Regina and Joey Seaborn of Eufaula, AL; two sons, David and Diane Brookins of Albany and Ben Brookins of Weston; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

CAMILLA - Jack Lamar Curles Sr., 70, of 330 Campbell Drive, Camilla, died Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Mitchell County Hospital in Camilla.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 10 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home with burial in Oakview Cemetery. The Revs. James P. Loucks Sr. and Stanley Phillips will officiate. The eulogy will be given by his oldest son, Mike Curles.
Born February 1, 1933 in Mitchell County, Mr. Curles was retired plant superintendent of Waste Water Processing at Bordo Citrus, Inc. in Winter Haven, FLORIDA. He was the son of the late Alexander Roland Curles Sr. and Era Davidson Curles. Mr. Curles attended Camilla and Pelham Public Schools, having graduated from Pelham High School in 1951. He was class president during 1950 and 1951. Mr. Curles was the first T-formation quarterback of Pelham Hornets football team and still holds the record for the longest punt, 84 yards, set back in 1950.
Survivors include three sons, Mike Lamar Curles and wife, Marlene, of Reston, VA, Lee Curles and wife, Wanda, of Lakeland, FL, and Jack Lamar Curles Jr. and wife, Connie, of Bainbridge; a brother, Alexander Curles Jr. and wife, Ladye, of Camilla; a sister, Dorothy Kearns, and husband, Bob, of Camilla; five grandchildren, Era LeeAnn Curles, Erica Ann Curles, Lindsey Carroll Curles, Jennifer Brewer, and Melissa Brewer; and number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. today (Sunday) at the funeral home.

ALBANY - Jewell Joyce Kirsch Cheek, 78, of 1613 Gail Ave. in Albany, GA, died Saturday, March 8, 2003 peacefully at her home.
The funeral service will be Monday (today), 4 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern. Dr. James M. Ramsey officiating. Private entombment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of Memphis, TN, Mrs. Cheek has lived in Albany since 1959 where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany, the Albany Women's Club, Albany NARFE and the Flint River Power Squadron. She was also a honorary member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Smyrna, GA.
Survivors include her son, Don Cheek and his wife, Donna, of Albany; a daughter, Karen Moncrief and her husband, Jim, of Athens, GA; three grandchildren, Kathryn Wesley, Kristy Moore, and Rob Cheek; five great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, special friend and companion, Don Cheek of Smyrna; and several nieces and nephews.

ALBANY - The funeral services of Abbie Haire, 93, of 200 Creekview Drive, Leesburg, GA, who died Saturday, March 8, 2003, will be conducted today (Monday) at 11 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. H.W. Rutledge will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.

A native of Early County, GA, Mrs. Haire had lived in the Albany and Leesburg area since 1957. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith. Mrs. Haire was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Bufford Haire, her parents, Charlie W. and Ella Victoria Davis, and a sister, Missouri Lee Burkes.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Charlie F. and Mary Brown Haire of Leesburg; two daughters, Carrie Haire-Joiner of Albany and Fannie Lue Chinell of Leesburg; two brothers, Ulmer Davis of Blakely and Clifford Davis of Colquitt; two sisters, Nettie King of Starke, FL, and Eunice Enfinger of Dade City, FL; and 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

John Carswell Hind Jr.
ALBANY - John Carswell Hind Jr., 80, of Albany, died Friday, March 7, 2003 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 10, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert Beckum and the Rev. Dr. Donald M. Kea will officiate. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Born in Reynolds, GA, on June 9, 1922 he was the son of the late Dr. J.C. Hind and Charlotte Malone Hind. Mr. Hind was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Golden "K" Kiwanis, the Ex-POW's Club and an Eagle Scout.
He interrupted his studies at the University of Tennessee, when World War II broke out and enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Third Infantry Division in Europe. He participated in the Angio Beachhead and the following campaigns, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France and and Central Europe, on September 24, 1944, he was wounded and taken captured by German soldiers. He was held in a prison hospital at Stalag IX at Meiningen, Germany until American troops liberated the camp in March of 1945.
Following the war, he completed his education at the University of Tennessee. He then moved to Lee County where he was the owner/operator of a dairy farm for 18 years. Later he worked in the forestry business until retirement
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kay Huston Hind, his children, Gail Barnhill Burke and her husband, John of Cummings, GA, Richard Barnhill and his wife, Vicki, Kenneth Barnhill and his wife, Mary, all of Albany; grandchildren are Christie Hind, Melissa Barnhill, Caroline Barnhill, Whitcomb Barnhill, Stephen Barnhill, Alex Barnhill, Ashley Burke and Lauren Burke. He was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Hind.
The family will be at their home, 1604 N. Valencia Drive.

A native of Reidsville, Mr. Hunt had lived in Worth County since 1991. He was a Navy veteran of WW II, having served on USS Augusta in Guadalcanal. He also served in Vietnam in 1967 in civil service in radar and electronics. He retired after 34 years from M.C.L.B. as a supervisor in electronics repair division. He was a Mason and D.A.V. He was a member of Isabella Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Nancy Perkins Hunt of Sylvester; three sons, Marcus C. Hunt Jr. (Delores) of Bridgeboro, Randy Hunt (Tamie) of Newton and Danny Hunt (Carolyn) of Sylvester; daughter, Kathy C.
