MOULTRIE - Hattie Mae Wildes Peacock, 90, of 37 Railroad Street, Moultrie, died Monday, September 30, 2002, at Sunrise Nursing Home in Moultrie.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cobb Funeral Chapel with interment in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Mark Jordan and the Rev. Joe Q. Smith will officiate.
The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
A native of Lowndes County, Mrs. Peacock was a retired spinner for Moultrie Textiles. She was a member of Riverside Holiness Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Peacock Snipes of Moultrie; son, Charles Glenward Peacock and wife, Faye of Albany; daughter-in-law, Voncile H. Peacock of Moultrie; son-in-law, Jerry Snipes of Moultrie; six grandchildren, Kelli Thomas, Cara Horne, Keith Peacock, Stacie Driver, Richie Snipes and Jamie Snipes; 12 great-grandchildren, Joshua Varnadoe, Nikkie Driver, Jeremy Varnadoe, Jerilyn Thomas, Andy Driver, Marlie Thomas, Keith Peacock, Megan Peacock, Emily Snipes, Shayla Snipes, Jaelyn Snipes and Carly Horne; two step great-grandchildren, Erik Sandal and Rachel Sandal; a special niece, Frankie Goodman and husband, Roy of Moultrie. ALBANY - The funeral service of Blanche Elizabeth Walker Bland, 82, of 713 Wildwood Drive, who died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Buford "Beau" Taylor will officiate. Entombment will follow at Crown Hill Mausoleum.
A native of Barbour County, AL, Mrs. Bland had lived in Albany for 57 years. She was retired civil service at the Marine Corps Logistics Base. Mrs. Bland was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, a member of NARFE and Golden Key Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Bland.
Survivors include a son, Neal W. Bland of Albany; two daughters, Donna Leek of Albany and Denise Murray of Lilburn, GA; brothers, G.C. Walker of Macon, Darrell Walker of Montgomery, AL, and Albert J. Born September 14, 1914, in Ft. Gaines, GA, she was the youngest daughter of Zebulon Burdette Jones and Crystal Brooks Jones. Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by her husband, Emory Lewis, a longtime banker in Albany.
Mrs. Lewis graduated from Andrew College, Cuthbert, GA. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Albany since 1935, where she was honored with a lifetime membership in the Woman's Society of Christian Service. She was past president of the Gailshar Garden Club.
Survivors include her sister, Dixie Jones LeDuc of Decatur, GA; three sons and their wives, Emory B. and Sarah Cordell Lewis of Monroe, GA, Dr. Charles E. and Kay Turner Lewis of Columbus, GA, Thomas J. and Rosanne Perry Lewis of Albany; eight grandchildren, Sharon King of Greenville, SC, Allison Vella of New York, NY, Cynthia Dee of Greenville, SC, Georgia Crews of Albany, Charles E. Leila Bell Rogers
ATHENS - Leila Bell Rogers, 95, died Sunday, September 29, 2002. She was born November 26, 1906, in Columbus, GA, and was the daughter of the late Jesse Dixon Bell and Emile Paris Hill Bell of Dawson, GA. She was the widow of Norman Elliot Rogers of Florence, SC. Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Bell of Dawson and Carden Bell Hubert of Athens, GA.
Mrs. Rogers was a graduate of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. She attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. She also spent one year studying French at the University of Paris-Sorbonne in Paris, France. Mrs. Rogers was a high school foreign languages teacher. She had taught at High Point High School in High Point, NC, at Athens High School in Athens, GA, at Albany High School in Albany, GA, where she was Star Teacher of the Year, and at Terrell Academy in Dawson, GA. She retired with over 40 years of teaching experience.
Mrs. Rogers was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She moved to Athens in 1975, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Athens.
She is survived by three nephews, James Hiram Hubert III of Greensboro, GA, Frank Claud Hubert of Bradenton, FL, and David Hill Hubert of Atlanta, GA; a cousin, Eli G. Hill of Dawson, GA; and by a great niece and three great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service and burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson, GA, on Friday at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of choice.
