The graveside funeral service of Evelyn Lynch, 82, of 3108 Leggett Drive, who died Friday, October 4, 2002, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. Dr. James Ramsey will officiate.
A native of Welch, LA, her parents were John and Katie McCollister. Prior to World War II, Mrs. Lynch served in the Red Cross Motor Corp. in Macon, GA. During the war, Mrs. Lynch lived in Green Cove Springs, FL. After the war, Mrs. Lynch moved to New Smyrna Beach, FL. She was a member of First Baptist Church for 24 years and superintendent of the two year old department for 24 years and served on the flower ministry for 24 years.
Survivors include Fred Lynch, husband; Bunny, Jeanette, Barbara and Trisha, daughters; Michele, Melissa, Jerry, Heather, Hope, Kim, Kathy and Robin, grandchildren; Hunter, Jacob, Noah, Brittany, Daniel and Jaycie, great-grandchildren.
The family requested that donations be given to Albany Rescue Mission for "The Homebound Ministry," in Evelyn's memory. Evelyn fed 56 families with her personal monies the month of September, 2002, because she believed in her husband's ministry. One hundred percent of these monies will be spent for food and supplies for these hungry, homebound and disabled families. James Dewey McDowell
ALBANY - The graveside funeral service of James Dewey (Mac) McDowell, 65, of 5609 Hill Road, Albany, who died Thursday, October 3, 2002, will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Leesburg Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate. Shriners and law enforcement will serve as honorary pallbearers.
A native of Muscogee County, Mr. McDowell had resided in the Albany area since 1960 moving from Columbus. He was retired from the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office and had worked with the Dougherty County Police Department for twenty seven years. Mr. McDowell was previously employed with the Albany Police Department and began his career with the Albany Fire Department.
He was a Navy veteran serving in Korea. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #24 and he was a York Rite Mason. Mr. McDowell was a member of the Hasan Shrine Temple where he served on the director's staff and he was also colonel of the Provost Guard. He was a member of the Albany Shrine Club and the VFW Post #2785.
Survivors include his wife, Bille McDowell of Albany; three daughters, Brenda McDowell Dunn Sellers and her husband, Mike of LaGrange, GA, Debra Louise Staines of Huntsville, AL, Elizabeth (Libby) Lee Barfield of Stockbridge, GA; two sons, James (Jimmy) McDowell II and his wife, Charlene of Sylvester and Clifton Ray McDowell of Albany; two sisters, Mary Ann Iden and her husband, Charles and Martha Bishop, all of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Jenene Maybury and her husband, Walt of Thatcher, AZ; five grandchildren, Michelle Staines, Spec. Kenneth S. Dunn, Spec. Melissa McKee and her husband, Sgt. Josh McKee, Jessica Staines and Malinda McDowell; a step grandson, Jacob Maybury; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dawson Owens
ALBANY - Dawson "D" Owens, 75, of 5411 Old Dawson Road, died Wednesday evening, October 2, 2002, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Thad Haygood will officiate.
"D" Owens was an Albany native and became the first twin born at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital on October 17, 1926. He was the owner of Allen Owens Company for many years and was a certified real estate appraiser, consultant, real estate developer and broker. Mr. Owens graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. Degree in 1950, and was a member and past president of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity while at the University of Georgia. He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County and was recently honored for 50 years of perfect attendance. Mr. Owens was past president of the Albany Board of Realtors, Sons of the American Revolution, Albany Independent Insurance Association, Georgia Bulldog Club, University of Georgia Alumni Club, State of Georgia Safety Council, and Radium Country Club. He was recipient of the Alvin B. Cates Annual Award from the Georgia Association of Realtors for having made the most outstanding sales transaction in the state of Georgia.
Mr. Owens also had served as Chairman of the Board of Equalizers for Dougherty County, Vice Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals, was listed in Who's Who in Georgia in 1973, and had served in many other capacities in other organizations. He also was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army in the Philippines.
Survivors include his wife, Jean N. Owens of Albany; five sons and daughters-in-law, Blanton "Dawson" and Kathi Owens of Atlanta, Cliff and Martha Owens of Albany, Chuck and Beth Owens of Albany, Ronnie and Betty Owens of Albany, Kevin and Regina Owens of Albany; daughter, Kathy Owens of Panama City, FL; 13 grandchildren, Ashley Owens, Dawson Owens III, Bryan Owens, Blake Owens, Jeremy Owens, Kristine Owens, Shannon Owens, Nowlin Owens, Erin Adcock, Daniel Adcock, Amanda Marie Register, Kristin Janan Phillips and Preston Laird; brother and sister-in-law, C. Inman and Lorene Owens of Albany; twin sister, Dorothy "Dot" Jackson of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Inman Owens and Eunice Tomlinson Owens and grandson, John Bishop.

ALBANY - The funeral service of James Fredrick (Freddie) Blackmon, 57, of 2503 Cresent Drive, who died Thursday, October 3, 2002, will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Albany First Church of Nazarene. The Revs. Everett Foskey and Hilton Gillespie will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside with Masonic Rites.
A native of Greenville, AL, Mr. Blackmon grew up in Panama City, FL, and had lived in Albany since he was 19. He was a member of Albany First Church of Nazarene and was a master electrician. He worked with Georgia Electric for 27 years as an electrical estimator and owned Blackmon Estimating Service. Providing for and looking after his family was always his main priority and greatest passion.
He was a member of Dougherty Lodge No. 591 F&AM and he was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of Hasan Shrine Temple where he served on the Director's Staff as Camel Trainer and he was a member of the Albany Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Blackmon of Albany; his mother, Willie Nell Blackmon of Gainesville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Ann Blackmon Hepner and George Anthony Hepner II of Albany, and Melissa Ann Blackmon Hill and Curt Hill of Leesburg; a brother, Joseph Blackmon of Norcross; and six grandchildren, Richard Alan Hepner, John David Shealy, Justin David Shealy, Matthew James Shealy, George Anthony Hepner III and Marissa Ann Ramos.

Born October 18, 1917 in Mitchell County, GA, he was the son of the late Clarence Warren and Mamie Mae Mulford Hayes. He was a salesman for Crew Motors in Cairo, former Mayor of Whigham and a member of Elbethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Miles Harmon of Buford, GA, Janice and Jimmy Glausier, and Millie Eyler, all of Albany, and Sheree and Mark Springgle of Leesburg, Margaret Owen of Thomasville; sons and daughters-in-law, C. Hayes Jr. of Lawrenceville, GA, Darrell and Suzie Hayes of Jefferson, GA, Keith and Marcia Hayes of Thomasville; a brother, Howard Hayes of Camilla; and 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and former husband to Caroline Taylor Hayes of Albany.

A native of San Antonio, TX, Steve had lived in Albany most of his life and graduated from Albany High School in 1990. He was employed by Napa Auto Parts.
Survivors include his parents, Alvin and Catherine Long of Albany; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Susan Long of Kirrville, TX, and Jimmy Long and Bonnie Long of Albany; a sister, Janie Long of Arlington, TX. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
