ALBANY - The funeral service of Lois Elizabeth Whittington Alred, 84, of Leesburg, who died Monday, October 7, 2002, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Bobby Harrell and the Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.
A native of Tift County, GA, Mrs. Alred had resided in Leesburg for 60 years before moving to Albany. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Leesburg and Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was the widow of Homer Cleveland Alred.
Survivors include a son, Eugene Alred of Leesburg; daughter, Nel Granitz of Ft. Pierce, FL; two sisters, Debbie Williams of Savannah, GA, and Ruth Lindsey of Fayetteville, GA; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Helen Taunton Hankinson
ALBANY - The funeral services of Helen Taunton Hankinson, 76, of 110 National Court, who died Sunday, October 6, 2002, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Buford Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cordele, GA.
A native of Taylor County, GA, Mrs. Hankinson had resided in Atlanta until retirement from Sears Roebuck Southern Territory Offices and from a private tax consultant firm while in Atlanta. She was a member and past president of Peachtree Chapter of American Business Women's Association where she was honored as "Woman of the Year." She moved to Cordele in 1978 on beautiful Lake Blackshear. She volunteered at Crisp Regional Hospital for many years where she served as president of the Hospital Auxiliary and was honored as "Volunteer of the Year." She moved to Albany in 1993 where she was a member of Elk's Auxiliary of B.P.O. Elk's Lodge #713. She served as president and was a member of the Past Presidents Club of the Elks Auxiliary. She was a member of A.A.R.P., Golden Key 55 Plus at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Golden Striders, Senior Friends at Palmyra Medical Centers, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Forever Young Club at Christ United Methodist Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Southwest Georgia Genealogical Society Inc., Burke County Georgia Genealogical Society, Taylor County Georgia Historical Society, and Christ United Methodist Church. She was a hostess for Mathews Funeral Home, and she was the widow of J.C. "Hank" Hankinson. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Franklin Taunton and Rena Rosebud Bryan Taunton and two brothers, Winston (Slick) Taunton and John Raymond Taunton, and a sister, Dorothy T. Smith.
Survivors include a sister, Edith T. Hobbs Barrer of Smyrna, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A native of Sumter County, Mr. McCay was a lifelong resident of Crisp County. He was a farmer and agri-businessman. He was the owner of McCay Gin & Warehouse Co., Inc., B & W Farm Center, and Ross Agra Service, Inc. He was a member of Cordele First United Methodist Church, Chickasha of Georgia, Albany Oil Mill and Chem-Nut.

A native of Kansas, Mr. Walton was a retired rural mail carrier and an Army veteran of WW II. He was a member of Meigs Baptist Church.

Survivors include two brothers-in-law, William Kennington of Thomasville and Woodrow Kennington of Orlando, Fla.; three nieces, Alice K. Jarvis and Susan K. Carlson of Thomasville and Mary Sue Kennington of Orlando, Fla.; two nephews, Robert Green Davis of Willmington, N.C., and Rodney Kennington of Orlando, Fla.; a number of great nieces and a nephews; and a number of great-great nieces and nephews.
