ALBANY - Betty Bishop Owens, 55, of 2809 Capers Lane died Monday, October 21, 2002, at her residence of an apparent heart attack.
Funeral service Wednesday, 11 A.M. at Kimbrell-Stern with cremation to follow. The Rev. Pete Daughtry officiating.
A native of Atlanta, she had lived in Albany since 1977 and worked with the State of Georgia, Mental Health and Substance Division. Mrs. Owens attended Albany Bible Church. She was preceded in death by her son, John Gary Bishop and parents, William C. and Elizabeth Wilson Stevens.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Owens of Albany; brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Carolyn Stevens of Albany; 15 nieces and nephews.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Jean Griffin Spell, 73, of Tallahassee, Fla., died Monday, October 21, 2002.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday at Forest Heights Baptist Church in Tallahassee with burial at 3 p.m. EDT Wednesday at Patmos Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Patmos, GA.
The members of her Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Spell moved to Tallahassee from Albany, GA, 48 years ago. She operated Tallahassee Bookkeeping and Income Tax Service and was a former member of the Capital City FSCA and the National Association of Enrolled Agents. She was also a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Jean Spell Sunday School class.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, John E. Spell of Tallahassee; son, John E. Spell and his wife, Susanne of Tallahassee; daughter, Carol S. Frye and her husband, Mike of Jacksonville; brother, Reuben Griffin and his wife, Sara of Chattanooga, TN; sisters, Vivian G. Kidd and Dott Hautman and her husband, D.S., all of Albany, GA; grandchildren, Jenny Frye McHargue, Kendall Spell, Mallory Frye, Jonathan Spell and Sarah Spell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Griffin of Albany and a sister, Laverne Gleaton of Arlington, GA.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends following the interment at Patmos Freewill Baptist Church.

MCRAE - Services for Gladys O. Wilson, 79, of Alamo will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mayfield Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church of Alamo with burial in Pine Acre Cemetery of McRae. The Rev. Lodenia Coleman will officiate.
Gladys O. Wilson passed into eternal rest Saturday, October 19, 2002.
Ms. Wilson, the daughter of the late Willie Wilson and the late Susie J. Horne Wilson was born March 22, 1923 in Wheeler County. She was the third child out of a family of twelve siblings, four of which preceded her in death.
She joined Mayfield Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age. She was a faithful member serving as a Steward, Choir President, Benevolent Fund Chairperson, and Food Committee Chairperson. While working at Albany State University, she was an Associate Member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church serving on Stewardess Board III, Choir #1 and a member of the Lillie S. Page Service Club.
Ms. Wilson attended the public schools of Wheeler County and Georgia Normal Agricultural College, Albany. She was a retired Dormitory Counselor for Freshman Women, Albany State University with 33 years of service. She was the recipient of the Outstanding Lay Person Award for her commitment, labor, faith and love to Mayfield Zion AME Church 2000, The Retirement Recognition Award for Loyal and Devoted Service to the Albany State University faculty, staff and students and a Twenty-five Years Service Award to Albany State University.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories five sisters, Lois R. Williams of Miami, Fla., Dr. Maudecca L. Wilson of Albany, Mattie B. McCloud of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Joyce Wright of Douglas and Pansy W. McLendon of Dublin; two brothers, Woodrow (Marian) Wilson of Alamo and Carnell (Jacqueline) Wilson of McRae; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Wilson of Alamo. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at Mayfield African Methodist Episcopal Church of Alamo from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. today, October 22, 2002.

Born August 25, 1951 in Dougherty County, Mr. Tabb was a resident of Baker County until 2000, when he moved to Lee County. He worked at McNair Farms as an irrigation technician. Mr. Tabb was the son of the late Robert Byron and Pauline Lane Tabb.
