The memorial service of John Preston Norton, 92, of 1809 Queens Rd., died Thursday August 16, 2007 at his residence, will be conducted Saturday at 10:00AM, August 25, 2007 at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Randy Daniel and Rev. Ray Bittner will officiate.
A native of Clayton Co., GA., Mr. Norton had resided in Albany since 1945. He was an army veteran serving in WW II in New Guinea, Australia and the Philippines. He was a printer and proof reader for the Albany Herald and the Moultrie Observer and attended Beulah Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Johanne Swords and her husband Jimmy of Albany, two sons Jerry Alday and his wife Iris of Camilla and John H. Peters and his wife Ann of Roswell, GA, one sister Grace Hatcher, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Mae Norton and his parents Walter and Emma Norton.

The funeral service of Lorraine Butler, 85, of Dawson, formerly of Albany, GA who died June 11, 2008, will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate. Interment will follow in Leary City Cemetery.
A native of Thomas County, GA, born to Augustus and Mamie Adams Hurst, Mrs. Butler grew up in Calhoun County and graduated from Morgan High School. She was the widow of Lewis Butler and moved to Albany in 1973 from Leary, GA where she was a member of the Leary United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Butler was a homemaker and volunteered in many capacities including the V.F.W, where she was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxillary. She was a past board member of the March of Dimes, volunteered for The Special Olympics, The American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. She was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Devon Butler, two brothers, Edward Hurst and Corbin Hurst and a sister, Cecile Collins.
Survivors include a daughter, Dinah Gay of Albany, three sons, Tony Butler and his wife, Betty, of Albany, Donnie Butler of Sasser and John Butler of Valdosta, a daughter-in-law, Sue Butler of Dawson, two sisters, Barbara Reed and Helen Hurst both of Albany, a brother and his wife, Wendell and Juanita Hurst of Quincy, FL, seven grandchildren, Angela (Bobby) Shoemaker, Chris Butler, Donnie (Holley) Butler, Jr., Toni (Brandon) Standerfer, Kelley Butler, Rhett Butler and Hunter Butler and five great-grandchildren, Cooper Shoemaker, Bridger Shoemaker, Flint Standerfer, Kolton Butler and Noah Butler.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. today (Friday) at Mathews Funeral Home.

The graveside funeral service of George Dennis Moreland, Jr., 81, of 115 Coney Lake Road, Leesburg, who died Friday, January 4, 2008 at his son’s home will be conducted Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate.
Born to George D. and Nora Davis Moreland, Sr., he was a native and life long resident of Lee Co., GA and was a graduate of Lee County High School. Mr. Moreland was a retired farmer and owner/operator of Coney Lake Plantation.
He had owned and managed Moreland’s Grocery, Big Mo’s Barbecue and won the Pig Jig in Vienna, GA. in 1986. Mr. Moreland was inducted into the Field Trial Hall of Fame in 1985 and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Leesburg. His door was always opened for anyone who was in need.
Survivors include a son, George Dennis (Bubba) Moreland, III and his wife, Sarah, a daughter Brenda (Boo) Moreland all of Leesburg, Ga., a sister, Ida Murphy of Albany, GA and, two granddaughters, Courtney Moreland and Haily Moreland both of Leesburg, GA.

The funeral service of Leldon Loyless (L.L.) Jarrett, 76, of 114 Eight Mile Road, Albany, who died Friday, January 4, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, will be conducted Monday. January 7, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Ronald Baxley will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens.
A native of Blakely, GA. Mr. Jarrett had resided in Albany since 1954, moving from San Diego, CA. He was Co-Owner of Jarrett Brothers Contractors and attended Amazing Grace Baptist Church. Mr. Jarrett served in The U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby Jarrett, by his first wife Cathy Jarrett, a sister, Ann Stewart and a brother, Quinn Jarrett, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Page Jarrett of Albany; two sons and their wives, Thomas and Connie Jarrett of Dawson, Jimmy and Patti Jarrett of Albany; four grandchildren, Anthony Jarrett and Cristy Maness both of Leesburg and James Jarrett and Megan Jarrett both of Albany, three great-grandchildren, T.J. Jarrett, Anzely Jarrett and Riley Jarrett; three sisters, Lela Mae Driver of Roswell, Louise Lavender of Valdosta and Susie Kate Dickerson of Brunswick. Several nieces and nephews.

A native of Turner County, GA, Mrs. Pate had resided in Albany since 1958 moving from Alabama. She was the retired kitchen manager at Palmyra Nursing Home and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Mrs. Pate was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Earldean Pate, Sr.
Survivors include her son, Ira Pate, Jr., of Albany, GA and former daughter-in-law, Donna Pate Webb of Albany, GA.

A native of Colquitt Co., GA, Mrs. Attell grew up in Omega, GA and Thomasville, GA and moved to Albany in 1957. She was a homemaker, a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church and The Open Door Sunday School Class.
Earlier in life she enjoyed sewing and making wedding dresses. She was a friend to everyone, young and old. She enjoyed fellowship with her friends and entertaining at her home many times.
Survivors include her husband, David M. Attell, Sr. of Albany, GA, two sons, David M. Attell, Jr. and his wife, Valerie of Morrow, GA and Alan Dean Attell of Leesburg, GA, two twin sisters, Martha Brady and Mary Bracewell and her husband, Milton, all of Ochlocknee, GA, two grandchildren, Robert Alan Attell and Brandon Kyle Attell, both of Leesburg, GA. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lola Mae Hamm Griffin and her father and mother Roy M. Griffin and Ida Lee Griffin, two brothers, O.L. “Shorty” Griffin and W.R. Griffin all of Thomasville, GA.

A native of Carroll County, GA., Mrs. Pressley had resided in Albany since 1985, moving from Rome, GA. She retired as a nurse’s aide from Redmond Park Hospital, a homemaker and a member of Lighthouse Ministries.
Survivors include her husband, William E.(Bill) Pressley of Albany, GA, a son, George Walter Pressley, of Montgomery, AL, a daughter, Patricia Ann Pressley, of Albany, GA and a brother, Franklin Thomas Chandler, of Buford, SC.

A native of Pittsburg, PA, Mr. Sciulli had resided in Albany since 1972 moving from Ft. Worth, TX. He retired from The United States Air Force after twenty years of service and from The United States Post Office after twenty three years. Mr. Sciulli was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church and a former member of The Loyal Order Moose.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Cook Sciulli, of Albany, GA, three children, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a brother, Gabe Sciulli and his wife, Mary, of Pittsburg, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service of, Lorine (Vesper) Bradshaw Odom, 74, of 9965 Indian Camp Road, Albany, GA, who died Friday, January 18, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, will be conducted Monday, January 21, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Lighthouse Ministries. Rev. Chris Turner will officiate. Interment will follow at Emanuel Cemetery, Worth County.
A native and lifelong resident of Albany, GA. Mrs. Odom was a School Bus Driver with Worth County School System and retired in 1998. She missed the children so much, she went back to work in 1999 and worked until 2007 when she retired again. She was a member of Lighthouse Ministries where she was Chairperson of Lighthouse Silver Sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Odom of Albany, GA, two daughters, Sylvia Black and her husband Bert of Albany, GA and Debra Fowler of Albany, GA, four sons and their wives, Ronnie and Lisa Bradshaw of Sylvester, GA, Michael and Lou Bradshaw, Roy and Jane Bradshaw and Ernie and Dawn Odom all of Albany, GA, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A native of Tampa, FL, Mrs. Roberts had resided in Albany since 1990, moving from Meigs, GA. She was a homemaker and the widow of, James T. Roberts, Sr.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, James T. (J.T.) Roberts, Jr. and Donna of Albany, GA and Michael Roberts and Marie of Orlando, FL, a daughter, Sonia Roberts of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, a brother, Percy Warren of Ellijay, GA, seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral service of Glynn Herman Davis, Sr., 59, of 209 Century Road East, Leesburg, who died January 28, 2008, will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. A. B. Stroud will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.
A native of Mitchell County, GA, Mr. Davis had lived in Leesburg since 1969 moving from Long Beach, CA. He served in the US Navy during Vietnam and was the owner and operator of Davis Auto Parts.
Mr. Davis was a member of Beacon Baptist Church and was a member of and past president of the Leesburg Civitan Club where he was in charge of the Fish-A-Rama. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Marie Davis.
Survivors include a son, Glynn H. Davis, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Leesburg, two daughters, Michele Saunders and her husband, Steve, of Buena Vista, GA and Glenda Romanesk and her husband, Alan, of Leesburg, GA, two brothers, Jeff Davis and Pierce Davis both of Leesburg, a sister, Verdie Mae Johnson of Cairo, GA, a great-aunt, Peggy McKinnon of Cuthbert, GA and eight grandchildren, Karmen Davis, J.J. Davis, Ashley Davis, Michele DeVoe, Joey DeVoe, Allison Romanesk, Jonathan Apperson and Lauren Apperson.
