A native of Newnan, GA, Mrs. Cowart had lived in Albany for a number of years before moving to North Little Rock, AR. She was the widow of Charles Russell Cowart Sr. and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Russell and Ann Marie Cowart Jr. of North Little Rock, AR; one grandson, Kevin Cowart of Auburn, AL.

ALBANY - Christine Johnson-Gulley, 67, of 1836 Antioch Road, Albany, died Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Salem Baptist Church in Baconton with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. James Edwards, pastor, and the Rev. Jessie Frazier officiating.
A native of Mitchell County, Mrs. Johnson-Gulley was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She attended Mitchell County public schools.
Survivors include six daughters, Christine Daniels, Earlene Daniels and Pauline McIntyre, all of Albany, Laura Jean Nash of Bellport, NY, Emma Jean Hampton of Bayshore, NY, and Hattie Lee Brown of Coram, NY; six sons, Bobby Johnson, Terry Daniels and Connie Lee Gulley, all of Albany, Cal Daniels, Lewis Daniels and David Johnson, all of Long Island, NY; three sisters, Mary Stewart of Center Moriches, NY, Flora Langs of Deer Park, NY, and Willie Bell Parks of Moultrie; one brother, M.J. Johnson of Baconton; 41 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
The remains or Mrs. Gulley will lie-in-state at the church on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.

ALBANY - Carl Harold Schmidt, 55, of Indianapolis, Indiana, died Sunday, November 3, 2002.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Sunnyside Baptist Church with the Rev. Lamar Ledford officiating.
Mr. Schmidt lived in Albany since 1973 after being stationed at the Albany Naval Air Station until he moved to Indiana in 1998. While living in Indiana he supervised the Handleman and Indianapolis Motor Speedway and in Albany he served as a law enforcement officer for the Albany Police Department and the Dougherty Co. Sheriff Dept. Also had been employed by Miller Brewing Company for 14 years. He was owner and operated of Horses of Color and member of The Worth County Saddle Club and The Tifton County Saddle Club. A member of New Life Tabernacle Church located in Worth County.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Hamblen Schmidt of Indianapolis, Ind.; mother, Edith Bartlett Schmidt of Melbourne, Fla.; sister, Nancy Terry of Melbourne, Fla.; sons, Matthew Schmidt and Carl Schmidt, both of Albany, Hayden Schmidt of Norman Park and Joshua Hamblen of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughters, Colleen Vann and Angela Hopper, both of Albany, Mary Ann Schmidt of Greenville, Miss., Misty Schmidt of Norman Park, Mandy Hamblen of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A native and lifelong resident of Worth County, Mrs. Sumner was born October 27, 1922. She was a homemaker and a member of Kimball United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ed Jackson Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace Greeley Hooks and Ada Arkansas Kennedy Hooks.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Hubert Sumner of Anderson City; three daughters, Wanda (Weldon) Bowen of Anderson City, Sharon (Al) Sherling of Monroe, and Midge (Clay) Walker of Rayle; a son, Ronald (Julie) Sumner of Sylvester; eight grandchildren, Brian Bowen, Brad Bowen, Wade Bowen, Adam Sherling, Matthew Sherling, Brett Walker, Chase Walker, and Scott Sumner; two great grandchildren, Daylon Bowen and Dakotah Kunselman.

REBECCA - Services for Gene S. Crawford, age 74, of 56 S. Academy Street, Rebecca, GA, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Rebecca United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ashburn, GA. Mr. Crawford died Thurday, November 7, 2002, at his residence after a long illness.
Mr. Crawford was a native and lifelong resident of Turner County, GA., the son of the late Hollis Arnold and Polly Marjorie Stallings Crawford. He was a member of the Rebecca United Methodist Church and was a cattleman. He was founding director of Community National Bank, and a member of the Ocmulgee Cattleman's Association.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley I. Crawford of Rebecca; two children, Scott Crawford and Phillip and Melissa Crawford, all of Rebecca; brother, Arnold Crawford Jr. of Rochelle; three grandchildren, Erica Crawford, Tanner Crawford, and Chandler Crawford, all of Rebecca.
