DAWSON - Alvah Eugene Joiner Jr., 94, of Dawson, died Sunday, November 10, 2002, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Brickle officiating.
Mr. Joiner was a native of Terrell County, born March 26, 1908, son of the late A.E. Joiner Sr. and Birdell Norton Joiner. He was a 1929 graduate of Mercer University and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He had been a resident of Dawson for the past 26 years, returning here after his retirement as a civil service employee at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Cherry Point, NC. Mr. Joiner was a member of Bronwood Baptist Church and the P.T. Masonic Lodge #229.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Augustine Bailey Joiner.
Survivors include a son, A.L. Joiner; granddaughter, Sheryl J. Shepard; and a great granddaughter, Katie Lyn Shepard, all of Dawson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bronwood Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Mrs. Colden Rainey, P.O. Box 38, Bronwood, GA 39826.

Helen Sasser Shiver
THOMASVILLE - Funeral services for Helen (Louise) Sasser Shiver of Meigs will be at 2 p.m. today at Meigs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Alligood officiating. Interment will be in Meigs Sunset Cemetery.
Mrs. Shiver died Sunday, November 10, 2002, at her residence. She was born February 25, 1905, in Thomas County to the late Howard Sasser and Lila Barnes Sasser. She was a homemaker and a member of Meigs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward K. Shiver; her son, Fred Shiver; sisters, Lila Mills and Vivian Mason; brother, Earl Sasser; sons-in-law, Luther Taylor and Woodrow Griffin.
She is survived by daughters, Dorothy Griffin of Ochlocknee and Martha Taylor of Albany; grandson and wife, Jimmy and Pam Taylor of Albany; granddaughters and husbands, Jean and Frank Carter of Woodstock and Georga and Layne Richardson of Ochlocknee, Gail and Jim Barton of Valdosta; granddaughter, Julie Taylor of Albany; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Inez Smith of Pelham; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a good loving Christian woman who put God and her family first. She was loved by many. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Avenue, Thomasville, GA 31792 or Meigs Baptist Church.

Lowrey Standifer Stone
BLAKELY - Senior Superior Court Judge Lowrey Standifer Stone, 79, of 229 Fort Gaines Street, Blakely, GA, passed away quietly Monday, November 11, 2002, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Blakely with the Rev. Henry Bass and the Rev. Danny Brewer officiating. Interment will be in the Blakely Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be today from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Judge Stone was born in Early County, GA, on August 14, 1923, to the late William Lowrey Stone and Una Ree Haddock Stone. He was married to the former Martha Ann Sims on August 18, 1952, in Blakely.
A graduate of Blakely Union High School in 1941, Judge Stone continued his education at Emory College at Oxford, a Methodist Institution with which the Stone family had been affiliated since 1842. Judge Stone completed his college education at Georgia Tech. In 1942, Judge Stone enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp where he served until his honorable discharge due to illness.
Judge Stone was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1947. Judge Stone's legal career spanned 53 years of private practice and public service. Judge Stone served as the Solicitor of the State County for a number of years. He was admitted to practice in state and federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States. In 1981, Judge Stone was appointed as Superior Court Judge of the Pataula Circuit by then Governor George Busbee. At the time of his death, Judge Stone was a Senior Superior Court Judge. During his career, Judge Stone was a member and Past President of the Pataula Circuit Bar Association, and he served on the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia and the Council of Superior Court Judges.
Judge Stone was a member of First United Methodist Church of Blakely. He was a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Blakely Rotary Club, the Kappa Alpha fraternity, and the Magnolia Masonic Lodge.
Judge Stone is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Sims Stone; three children, William S. Stone and wife, Sherree of Blakely, John L. Stone and wife, Marie of Dothan, AL, and Nancy S. Brown and husband, Robert T. Brown of Albany and 10 grandchildren, Ryals Stone, Lauren Brown, Lowrey Brown, Katie Stone, James Stone, John Stone, Daniel Stone, Caitlin Stone, Andrew Stone and Anna Catherine Brown.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 430 East Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA 31717.

ALBANY - Charles Patrick Bradley, 54, died Sunday, November 10, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Putney with interment in Desoto Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. David Benton and the Rev. Nancy Scarbrough officiating.
Born in Americus, Mr. Bradley had lived in Albany most of his life, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Putney. He was a 1966 graduate of Dougherty High School and worked for Robertson Optical. Mr. Bradley was a member of the Woodman of the World.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Key Bradley of Albany; a daughter, Laci Shea Bynum and her husband, Danny of Albany; sister, Susan Wright of Albany; niece, Shaunna Paige Crawford of Albany; and a nephew, Robby Wright of Destin, FL.

A native of Albany, Ms. Cauley was a retired machinist. She was also a member of Eureka Baptist Church in Albany.

A native of Chicago, IL, Mr. Gipson was born January 22, 1970. He was a graduate of Dougherty High School and attended the Salvation Army Church. He was an assistant manager at Wendy's Restaurant.
Survivors include his wife, Jaquetta Gipson of Albany; a son, Willie James Gipson Jr. of Albany; two daughters, Ashley J. Gipson and Whitney J. Gipson, both of Albany; his mother, Georgia Mae Reeves-Hayles and stepfather, Joe L. Hayles of Albany; three brothers, Lawrence Gipson Jr., Robert Lee Gipson and Jerome N. Reeves, all of Albany; two sisters, Linda Diane Hudson and Janice Renee Gipson, both of Albany; one brother-in-law, Tony Hudson of Albany; two sisters-in-law, Carol D. Reeves and Debra Norris, both of Albany.
The remains of Mr. Gipson will lie-in-state at the church on Thursday evening from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. The family of Mr. Gipson will receive friends and relatives at the home of his mother, Georgia Mae Reeves-Hayles, of 2517 Brierwood Drive, Albany.

SYLVESTER - Floyd W. Osborne Sr., 68, of 245 North Elm St., Poulan, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Banks Funeral Chapel with interment in Poulan Cemetery. The Rev. Gordon Poole the Rev. Tim Mathews will officiate.
A native of Murray County, GA, Mr. Osborne was born February 3, 1934, to the late Herbert Monroe Osborne and Mary Elizabeth Carrol Osborne. He had lived in Poulan since 1981, moving from Albany. He was formerly employed with Coats and Clark of Albany and Tifton Cotton Mill of Tifton. He attended Mt. Pleasant Full Gospel Church in Poulan. Mr. Osborne was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Posey Osborne, who died August 30, 2002.
Survivors include his son, J.R. Osborne of Poulan; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Jimmy Sullivan of Sylvester; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, June and Truman Groover of Jamesville, NC, Judy and Melvin Hunt and Wanda and Earl Bridges, all of Albany; stepson, Herschel Douglas of Sylvester; six brothers, Robert Osborne of Ashburn, Ray Osborne of Chatsworth, Herman Osborne of Port St. Lucie, FL, Jimmy Osborne of Nashville, GA, Frank Osborne of Cave Springs, and Bobby Osborne of Logansville; five sisters, Mary Belle Buffin of Swainsboro, Sara Nell Singletary and Ann Duren, both of Nashville, GA, Dottie Randall of Ray City, and Martha Howard of Chatsworth; three grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; and 13 step great-grandchildren.

ALBANY - Durward Pennington Sr., 89, of 2724 Ledo Road died Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
The funeral service will be Thursday, 2 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Eidenire will officiate.
A native of Macon County, he had lived in Albany for the past 65 years and was retired civil service. Mr. Pennington was the former owner and operator of Pennington Ambulance Service and was a member of American Legion Post #30. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Davenport Pennington and his son, Jackie Pennington.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Becky P. and Tom Knight of Leesburg; son and daughter-in-law, Durward Pennington Jr. and wife, Betsy of Gainesville, GA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Lt. Col. Donald E. Sink (USAF Ret.), 80, of 1923 Buck Lane, who died Monday, November 11, 2002, will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Michael Gravette and the Rev. Ray Bowman will officiate. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Ochlocknee City Cemetery.
A native of Pebble County, Mr. Sink had resided in Albany for many years, moving here from Texas. He graduated from high school in Ochlocknee and attended both Susquahanna University and Indiana University. Mr. Sink retired from the USAF in 1971, after 26 years of service. He was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church, the National Officers Association, NCCA, DAV, TROA, and the Retired Officers Association. Mr. Sink was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Robinson Sink.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carol Sink of Duncanville, TX; two brothers, Joe Sink of Sparta, IN, and William Sink of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Marilyn Whitamore of Ellenton, FL, and Virginia Leib of Coca, FL; a sister-in-law, Alpha Sink of Albany; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Robert Roberson, both of Ochlocknee; and two grandchildren, Adam Sink and Kim Myers.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Mathews Funeral Home.
