ALBANY - Joel Christopher Whitlock, 38, of 1616 W. 8th Street, Jacksonville, Fla., died Thursday, November 14, 2002, at Community Hospice - The Morris Center in Jacksonville.
The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Baptist Church with interment in Floral Memory Gardens. The Rev. Richard Jordan will officiate.
Mr. Whitlock was a native of Jacksonville, Fla.
Survivors include his father, Henry Whitlock Jr.; mother, Lula Catherine Hill; son, Venko Montray Green; three daughters, Tiffany Whitlock, Danielle May and Kizmet Vaughn; three brothers, Doryn LeConte Whitlock, Henry Whitlock and Michael Whitlock; six sisters, Gayle Jones Kennedy, Michelle Whitlock Hicks, Bernice "Bunchie" McKind, Alisa Whitlock-Watts, Jeri W. Wellons and Carolyn Whitlock.

BLAKELY - Bert Sutton Puckett, 87, of Blakely died Sunday, November 17, 2002, at Ft. Gaines Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 4:15 p.m. today in Blakely Cemetery. Dr. Alex Howell will officiate.
A native of Clay County, Mr. Puckett had lived in Early County most of his life. He was a retired merchant and farmer. He was a member of Blakely Baptist Church.
The active pallbearers will be Sam Clinkscales Jr., Kyle Kornegay, Robert Franklin, Hugh Franklin, Jim Clinkscales, Jason Clinkscales and Bruce Folwell.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Fryer Puckett of Blakely; daughter, Joan Puckett Wall of Tucker; one grandson and wife, Bert Puckett Wall and Kimberley Smith Wall of Barnsville; three great-grandsons, Josh, Ben and Max Wall of Barnesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert and Reberta Sutton Puckett.

Mrs. Young died Sunday, November 17, 2002, in the Elberta Health Care Center in Warner Robins. She was the daughter of the late Carrie and John Crocker, the widow of Prince J. ALBANY - Halcia Cross McGirt, 93, of Americus, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.
The memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Kimbrell-Stern with the Rev. Newman Tye officiating.
A native of Baker County, Mrs. McGirt had lived in Albany 77 years where she was a member of First United Methodist Church and First Assembly of God. Mrs. McGirt graduated from Albany High School and attended Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon.
Survivors include her daughters, Halcia McLary of Acworth, Pat Joffrion of Morgan; five grandchildren, Gus McLary Jr. and Anne Hall, both of Woodstock, Fran McLary of Jasper, Melanie Peavey of Edison and Elizabeth Tye of Morgan; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Duncan "Mac" McGirt.
The family will receive friends following the chapel service.

ALBANY - The funeral service of John Harrison Watson, 79, of Albany, who died Wednesday, November 20, 2002, will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Pollock and the Rev. Michael C. Catt will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.
A native of Worth County, GA, Mr. Watson had resided in Albany since 1947. He was retired from Lilliston Corporation after 28 years. He was a partner in Johnson Frame Crafters for 10 years. He was an Air Force veteran serving during World War II and was a prisoner of war for 16 months. He was an excellent vegetable and flower gardener, expert cook and excellent fisherman. He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bertie Sanderson Watson of Albany, GA; a son, Charles Watson and his wife, Dena of Tifton, GA; a daughter, Peggy Watson Walton and her husband, Bobby of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Lemmie Watson and his wife, Bonnie of Albany, GA; two sisters, Mildred Harrell of Rhine, GA, and Doris Stripling of Doerun, GA; three grandchildren, Derek Walton, Haley Hartley, Lindsey Walton; one great-grandchild, Caden Hartley and several nieces and nephews.

PERRY - Emerson S. Chew, 86, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002, in Camilla. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Watson-Hunt Chapel in Perry, GA, with interment following at Perry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Chew was a WW II Army-Air Force veteran; flew as a crew member on a B-17 and was initiated into the Forty and Eight.
Mr. Chew was born and lived in Crawfordville for many years, where he was a 1934 graduate of Alexander Stephens Institute; owned & operated Chew Furniture Company for over 40 years with his brother, Edgar Chew. Also while living in Crawfordville, he joined the American Legion; was a member of the Crawfordville Kiwanis Club (40 Years); served on the Taliaferro County Board of Education and was a member of Crawfordville United Methodist Church holding many positions including treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent. He later was a member of Perry United Methodist Church and was currently a member of St. Simons United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Helen E. Chew.
Survivors include three children; Randy Chew of Pelham, Gayle C. Hughes of Homerville and Marti C. Strong of Gainesville; a sister, Dorothy C. Nobles of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
