ALBANY - The memorial service of William Warren (Bill) Snook Jr., 74, of 631 Live Oak Circle, who died Sunday, December 1, 2002, will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Marine Corp Base Chapel with full military honors. Chaplain LCDR R.C. Richards will officiate. Interment at Andersonville National Cemetery.
A native of Orting, Washington, Mr. Snook had lived in Albany for the past 20 years. He was retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was retired civil service as a data processor. Mr. Snook was a member of V.F.W. Post 2785, NARFE and U.S.S. General H.W. Butner Reunion Association.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Pickels Snook of Albany; son, William V. Snook of Orlando, FL; two daughters, Patti Pickels Hyre and her husband Mark of Charlotte, NC, and Heidi Pickels O'Brien of Tallahassee, FL; a sister, Nita Snook Jones of CA; four grandchildren, William J. and Jessica Snook and Brittney and Linsey O'Brien.

DAWSON - James Lawrence Nicholson, 85, of Dawson died Monday, December 2, 2002, in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Harvey Funeral Chapel with the Rev. George Deadwyler and the Rev. Wyman Richardson officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Nicholson was a native of Sumter County, born July 5, 1917, son of the late James Jasper Nicholson and Adele Woolbright Nicholson. He lived most of his life in Terrell County, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. Mr. Nicholson owned and operated, J & J Plumbing & Electric Co. of Dawson for many years.
He was a member of the Golden Kiwanis Club, and served for a number of terms on City Council for the city of Dawson. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dawson, where he was a Deacon, a member of the Men's Bible Sunday School Class, and previously taught in the Junior Boy's Dept.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, D.B. Nicholson and a sister, Marjorie N. Hayes.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Swann Nicholson of Dawson; two sons, James L. Nicholson Jr. and wife, Juanita of Barnesville and Walter S. Nicholson and wife, Martha of Dawson; and a daughter, Martha N. Jenkins of Franconia, N.H.; five sisters, Lucille Miller of Macon, Dell Lane and husband, Bill of Dawson, Mamie Brundige and husband, Winston of Baltimore, Md., Ruby N. Willis of Colquitt, Meredith N. McCook of Edison; and a sister-in-law, Juanita D. Nicholson of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Mark Nicholson of Manchester, N.H., Randal Nicholson of Brockton, Mass., Traci N. Howard and husband, Jeff of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Bethany Jenkins of New York, N.Y., Lauren J. Beck and husband, T.J. of Manchester, N.H., William Larry Jenkins of Franconia, N.H., James Nicholson of Dawson and John Nicholson of Statesboro; and two great-grandchildren, Jeffery and Jaclyn Howard, both of Green Cove Springs, Fla.

ALBANY - John J. Burke Sr., 80, of Cumming, GA, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002.
His remains have been cremated and a memorial service will be held Friday, 10 a.m. at Crown Hill Mausoleum. The Rev. Finbarr Stanton will officiate.
A native of Boston, MA, Mr. Burke was a former resident of Albany where he was owner and operator of the IHOP Restaurant in the 70's and early 80's. He was an avid golfer and a member of Doublegate Country Club. He attended Boston College where he played football. During his football career he played in the Orange Bowl against the University of Alabama. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army serving in both WW II and Korea.
Survivors include a son, John Burke Jr. and his wife, Gail of Cumming; a brother, Mike Burke of Boston, MS, and two grandchildren, Ashley and Lauren.
