CORDELE - Judy Pope Culberson, 52 of Cordele died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with interment in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Camilla at 3 p.m.
A native of Moultrie, Mrs. Culberson was a secretary with South Georgia Technical College and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Paul L. Culberson of Cordele; son, Walt Culberson of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Kathy Culberson of Smyrna; father, Willis Pope of Camilla; mother, Pauline Pope of Camilla; brother, Steve Pope of Leesburg; sister, Barbara Harrison of Camilla.

Estelle Ealy Jackson
PELHAM - Estelle Ealy Jackson, 89, of 345 Wilson Street, Pelham, died Monday, December 9, 2002, at Kortneys Personal Care Home in Thomasville.
The funeral will be at noon Friday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in Pelham with interment in Pelham Memorial Gardens. Brother Alton Banks will officiate.
A native of Grady County, Mrs. Jackson was a retired licensed insurance agent. She graduated from Mitchell County Training School where she was valedictorian of her class. She was also a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness.
Survivors include her son, Willie Bob Jackson (Bernice) of Philadelphia, PA; two daughters, Lorene Faison (M.C.) of Albany and Angela Clarke (Thomas) of Thomasville; 15 grandchildren; and a host of great grands, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

ROCHELLE - Sam R. Mashburn Sr., 66, of Claxton, formerly of Rochelle, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2002, in the St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Rochelle United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Carroll and the Rev. Steven Giglio will officiate. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery in Rochelle with Masonic Rites.
Mr. Mashburn was born in Wilcox County, January 4, 1936. He was the son of the late James W. Mashburn and Fannie Lou Reid Mashburn. He was a retired meat inspector with the U.S.D.A. with 33 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Claxton, the Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190 F&A.M. and was a former member of the Rochelle Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Julie V. Mashburn of Claxton; son, Sam Mashburn Jr. of Rochelle; daughter, Fanilu Eason of Rochelle; stepsons, Robert Mashburn of Broxton and Randy Mashburn of Atlanta; brother, James W. Mashburn of Albany; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren also survive.

PELHAM - The Rev. Ernest Gordon Morey, 90, of the Lester Community, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at Palmyra Medical Centers.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Chris Hall will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Bo Morey, Rick Morey, Tod Morey, Keith Morey, Chris Dixon and Ron Morey. A native of Mitchell County, Rev. Morey was born September 6, 1912. June 15, 1935, he married Annie Lee Blackwell. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Woodman of the World, and was a retired farmer and minister. He had been minister to Oakfield Baptist Church in Worth County for 18 years. His parents were the late Lula Aultman Morey and Thomas Samuel Morey. Rev. Morey was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Morey and Ronald Morey and a granddaughter, Robin Morey.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Lee Morey of Lester; two sons, Tyron Morey of Baconton and Larry Morey of Jackson; two daughters, Cynitha Freeman of Lester and Vera Dixon of Fayetteville, NC; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

MADISON, FL - Captain Eugene Edward Briggs, retired United States Air Force, age 80, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at his residence in Madison, FL.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Madison, FL, with burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Madison. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m..- 6 p.m. Sunday at Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel in Madison.
He was born in Bristol, TN. While serving in the US Air Force, he was a navigator for air and sea rescue in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He retired after 21 years of service, attaining the rank of Captain. While serving in the Air Force, he received the Air Metal. He was a member of the Squatters Club - a survivor of his plane crashing at sea. He moved to Madison from Valdosta in 1987. He was a member of the Madison Rotary Club, Chairman of the Madison County Hospital Board. He was a former Director of Christian Education at First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins, Bloomfield Methodist Church in Macon, and Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Valdosta. He was formerly employed by the Brooks County Family and Children Services in Quitman. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Madison, where he taught the McDonald & Cora Ashley Sunday School Classes and he was in the Chancel Choir.
Captain Briggs was married for 60 years to Mary Agness Knight of Albany; the niece of Mrs. Raeburn Horne of Madison. He is survived by three sons, Michael E. Briggs of Madison, Gerald Raeburn and Marie Briggs of Tallahassee, and David E. and Christi Briggs of Adel; a daughter, MJ Briggs of Atlanta; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Kuhman of Yorkville, IL, and Kate Clark of Lovington, IL.

A native of Worth County, Mrs. Grubbs had lived in Poulan all of her life. She was employed by Coats & Clark in Albany. She was also a member of Faith Community Fellowship in Poulan.
