PELHAM - Mary Hicks Hodges was born July 17, 1922, in Mitchell County, GA, to the late Rev. John and Frances Hicks. She departed this life Monday, December 16, 2002, at Palmyra Medical Centers in Albany.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church with interment in Pelham Memorial Gardens.
She was a member and faithful and dutiful worker of Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in Mitchell County. She served as Junior Mother of the Church, president of Senior Mission and as an usher. She served in numerous clubs and auxiliaries: Christian Travel Club, Colorful Auxiliary, Home Mission Society.

Mr. Pollard attended the public schools of Terrell County, GA. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II and was honorably discharged. Later he worked as a carpenter until his health failed.
Left to cherish his memory are two devoted daughters, Shirley Bell Williams (Lawrence) of Columbus, GA, and Eleanor Bell Waller of Tifton, GA; four grandchildren, Herbert Bernard Bell (Dot), and Meshaun Bell Judge of Columbus, GA, Marvin McKendall Waller and Michael Steven Waller, both of Tifton, GA; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mattie Sue Pollard and Jaratha Griffin Pollard; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; a devoted nephew, John Pace (Mary) and a very devoted niece, Annie Pollard, of Dawson, GA.

DAWSON - Desi Cornelius Watson "Gabby" of 932 Flint River Street, NE, Dawson, GA, died Monday, December 16, 2002, at Sumter Regional Hospital.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Beulahland Missionary Baptist Church, 732 Lemon Street, NE, Dawson, GA. The Rev. Lanoris Dixon, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
He attended the public schools of Terrell County, GA, and graduated in the class of 1987.
Desi joined the United States Marine Corp November 11, 1987, and served his country until he was honorably discharged in July 1990. He worked for Stevens Industries for a number of years, after which he was employed at Cooper Tires in Albany, GA, until his health failed.
Desi is survived by his daughter, Dana L. Watson; mother, Lucrecia Watson; sister, Lucenda Verdell Harvey (Rubin), all of Dawson, GA. He grew up as the brother to his nieces and nephews, Shirley Amos, Nathaniel Watson (Daisy), both of Dawson, GA, Theresa Burks, Cynthia Neal (McArthur), Helen Harvey and Rubin Harvey Jr., all of Dawson, GA; Felix Irving of Valdosta, GA, and Frank Harvey (Stacy) of Albany, GA. He is also mourned by a devoted great niece, Takila Harvey of Dawson, GA; cousin/friend, Leonard Weaver of Dawson, GA. A host of sorrowing friends. One special friend, Vette Powell of Dawson, GA. He will also be greatly missed and loved by Katresa Aaron.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Devon Butler, 54, of 5610 Florida Short Route, Dawson, who died Thursday, December 19, 2002, will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Johnny Roberts and the Rev. Gerald Ross will officiate. Interment will follow in Leary City Cemetery. Rhett Butler, Hunter Butler, Don Butler, Stan Roberts, Damon Roberts and Todd Winder will serve as pallbearers.
A native and life long residence of Albany, Mr. Butler was a Baptist and had been employed with Oxford Construction Company as asphalt manager for the past twenty five years.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Butler of Dawson; his mother, Loraine Butler of Dawson; a son, Chris Butler of Dawson; a sister, Dinah Gay of Albany; three brothers, Donnie Butler and Tony Butler, both of Albany and Johnny Butler of Jackson, MO; and a number of nieces and nephews.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Reva Thompson Davis, 72, of 2521 Homestead Ave., Albany, who died Friday, December 20, 2002, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mathews Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Paul Wilkes will officiate. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery in Colquitt County.
A native of Mitchell County, Mrs. Davis had lived in Albany since 1990, moving here from Atlanta, GA. She was a retired medical receptionist and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, John F. Davis; daughter, Harriett Davis Smith; grandson, John Kevin Smith and his wife, Erica, all of Albany; two great-grandchildren, Presley Taylor Smith and Bryce Davis Smith, both of Albany; a sister, Shirley Odom of Albany; a brother, Carl Thompson of Macon; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton L. and Rosa Davis Thompson, one brother, and four sisters.

Virginia Owens Lanier
ALBANY - With the death of Virginia Owens Lanier, Albany has lost one of its most gracious and charming citizens.
Mrs. Lanier died December 17th at her residence after a long illness. She was the widow of Hollis Lanier Sr. and was born on February 3, 1909, the daughter of Annie and Dawson Owens of Albany.
Mrs. Lanier attended Ward Belmont Academy, Wesleyan College and the University of California at Berkley.
She was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Daughters of the King. She was a charter member of the Albany Hospital League and a member of the Albany Charity League and the National Society of the Colonial Dames in the State of Georgia. Mrs. Lanier was a lifetime member of Radium Country Club and Doublegate Country Club in Albany and the Capital City Club in Atlanta.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Owens Lanier and a son, Hollis Lanier Jr.; two grandchildren, Hollis Lanier III and Mildred Caroline Lanier.
