ALBANY - The funeral service of Robert Harrison Creel of 2040 W. Broad Ave., Albany, who died Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at his residence, will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Albany. The Rev. Mike McAfee will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
A native of Dougherty County, Mr. Creel had resided in Albany all of his life. He was an account executive with Amerian Fidelity Life Assurance Company and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Albany. Mr. Creel was a 1971 graduate of Albany High School and was a former member of The Artesian City Sertoma Club, The Civitan Club and coached Dixie League Baseball for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved his family.
Survivors include a son and daughter, Tyler B. Creel and Jordan M. Creel, both of Albany and the mother of his children, Debbie Kromminga of Texarkana, Texas.
The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
The family is at the residence of Jody and Dianne Butler, 601 Pinecrest Drive, Albany, GA 31707.

Lucille Davis Keys
ALBANY - Lucille Davis Keys, 83, of 1420 W. Highland Ave. died Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Palmyra Medical Centers.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Albany with interment in Union Memorial Park Cemetery in Albany.
Born May 20, 1921, in Mitchell County, Mrs. Keys was a homemaker. She attended Mitchell County public schools and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Sale City.
Survivors include two brothers, Love Davis Jr. and Curtis Davis, both of Albany; one sister, Elma Davis-Williams of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews.

ALBANY - David Timothy Ogonji, 9 days old, of 814 Swift St. died Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today graveside in Sardis Cemetery in Dawson.

Gladys Smithee Strickland
ALBANY - Gladys Smithee Strickland, 94, of Albany died Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at the Silverton United Methodist Church in Silverton, Texas, Saturday, January 8, 2005, at 10:30 AM with interment in Silverton Cemetery.
A native of Silverton, Texas, Mrs. Strickland lived Albany for the past 14 years. She was a member of Porterfield Memorial united Methodist Church, the Fellowship Sunday School Class, XYZ Club and the Golden Key club. She graduated from Silverton High School and attended the University of Texas. Mrs. Strickland was active in her church and community throughout her life. Her husband Chester Strickland served as superintendent of the public schools in Denton, Texas. The Strickland's were married for 65 years and traveled widely in their retirement. A devoted West Texan, Mrs. Strickland frequently returned to her native Silverton for family reunions. She lived life guided by her strong devotion to service wherever she was needed.
The Smithee family arrived in Silverton, Texas, (Briscoe County) on December 23, 1897. The family came in covered wagons from Strawberry, Sharpe County, north of Batesville, Ark. The trip took 35 days.
Her parents Willie and Lizzie Smithee; her sister Kathleen Green; and her brother, Willie Amel Smithee preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Kay Wylie (Lynn) of Albany; a granddaughter, Sherri Wylie (Sam Hardin) of Atlanta; two grandsons, Roger Wylie (Daiva Tautvydas) of Seattle, Wash., and Cliff Wylie (Neema Amatya) of Los Angeles, Calif., and four great-grandchildren, Beth Wylie Hardin, Zach Wylie Hardin, Asta Wylie and Aidan Wylie. A sister, Einell Bramblett of Plainview, Texas, also survives her.
Memorials may be made to Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, 2200 Dawson Road, Albany, GA 31707.

ALBANY - Robert Louis "Poe Boy" Worthy, 59, of 625 W. Society Ave. died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday graveside in Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. James Blue will officiate.
Born October 21, 1945, in Albany, Mr. Worthy was a construction worker for Anderson Roofing Company and was a Staff Sgt. having served in Vietnam. He attended Monroe High School and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Swinney of Albany and Stacie Worthy of Montgomery, Ala.; one brother, John R. Worthy of El Paso, Texas; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and relatives at the home of Mary Brown, 512-A South Van Buren St., Albany.

DAWSON - William Abe Burkes, 72, of 1613 Beverly Ave., Albany, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Rocky Hill Missionary Baptist Church , Gravel Hill Road, Albany, GA, the Rev. James Stokes, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Dawson.
He attended the public schools of Randolph County, GA. He was employed as an auto mechanic in New York for a number of years before returning to Georgia.
At an early age he joined Benevolence Missionary Baptist Church at Benelovence, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garfield Burkes Sr. and Lillie Mae Burkes, also one brother, Robert Thomas and one sister, Ruby Baldwin.
William leaves to cherish his memories, two children, Maurice Burkes of Hempstead, NY, and Cynthia Robinson of Benevolence, GA; three stepchildren, Brenda Thomas of Cumberland, MD, Jeffery Thomas and Gloria Thomas, both of Hempstead, NY; one sister, Louise Green Facen of Albany; one brother, Garfield Burkes Jr. (Louise) of Cuthbert; and nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Hazel Woods Gresham, 89, of Lacanta, FL, formerly of Albany, who died Friday, June 9, 2006 at Life Care Center of Citrus County, FL, will be conducted Monday, June 12, 2006, at 3 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.
A native of Chattooga County, GA, Mrs. Gresham had resided in Albany since 1982 before moving to Lacanta, FL. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Gresham was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Charles Gresham and son, Bobby Gresham.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Jackie and Sheila Gresham of Lacanta, FL; a daughter and husband, Linda and Buddy Knight of Ashford, AL; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Gresham of Orange Park, FL; a brother and his wife, Melvin and Helen Woods of Harrison, TN; and seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.
The family will receive friends today (Sunday) from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
