SLOCOMB, Ala. - Mr. Damon C. Purvis, a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather of 511 Lawrence Street, Slocomb, AL, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, January 1, 2006, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan following an extended illness. He was 77.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 4, 2006, in Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. The Rev. Stanley Carter and the Rev. Joe Gissendanner officiated. Burial followed in Slocomb City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to The Chimes Fund at the Slocomb First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 304, Slocomb, AL 36375.
The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Mr. Purvis was born June 5, 1928 in Geneva County, AL, to the late Columbus Delaware and Ella Jane Pelham Purvis. He was a U.S. Veteran serving his country in the U.S. Navy from 1947 until 1951. He worked 28 years as an electronics technician with Civil Service at Fort Rucker, AL. He was a faithful member of the Slocomb First United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh and Charles Purvis, and a close Aunt, Jennie Pearl Helms.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Purvis of Slocomb, AL; one daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and Lathron Spivey of Wicksburg, AL; two sons and daughters-in-law: Craig and Renee Purvis of Mobile, AL, Chris and Mavis Purvis of Abbeville, AL; grandchildren: Jeremy and Josh Purvis of Mobile, AL, Kelly and Katelyn Purvis of Abbeville, AL; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Alvah and Opal Purvis of Chicago, IL, Delmus and Letha Purvis of Albany, GA, Olan and Nell Purvis of Marietta, GA; one aunt: Blondell Garrett of Dothan, AL; close friends: the Rev. Joe and Betty Gissendanner of Slocomb, AL, Austin and Sue Newton of Slocomb, AL.
Active pallbearers will be Hugo Phillips, Jeremy Purvis, Josh Purvis, Walter Blount Jr., Doug Raley and Charles Farmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Newton and Charles Kelly.

Bessie Belcher Crozier
CUTHBERT - Bessie "Betty" Belcher Crozier, 91, of Ft. Gaines died January 4, 2006, at Joe-Ann Burgin Nursing Home in Cuthbert.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. Shiloh Baptist Church in Clay County with interment in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Crozier was born July 22, 1914, in Barbour County, AL, daughter of the late Joseph and Ludie Lee Belcher. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, was a seamstress and married to the late Jessie J. Crozier.
Survivors include two sons, Allen Crozier of Ft. Gaines and Jim Crozier of Peachtree City; six grandchildren, David Crozier, Melissa Crozier, Michael Crozier, LeAnn Furgason, J. Crozier and Kelly Keebler; and seven great-grandchildren.

Emmie Lee Slocumb Lash Giles
DAWSON - Emmie Lee Slocumb Lash Giles, 83, of Dawson died Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at the graveside Cedar Hill Cemetery on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Jones officiating.
Mrs. Giles was a native of Webster County, born December 16, 1922, daughter of the late John Ezkiel Slocumb and Alma Lee Dismuke Slocumb. She had been a resident of Dawson and Terrell County for the past 75 years, she was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Dawson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Luther E. Lash Sr. and Paul H. Giles Sr.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Pickard and her husband, Todd of Dawson; four sons, Luther E. Lash Jr. and wife, Margaret of Valdosta, Jackie E. Lash and wife, Judy of Blakely, Sonny S. Lash and wife, Sheila of Leesburg and Paul H. Giles Jr. and wife, Marilee of Gastonia, NC; two sisters, Lois Puckett of Cuthbert and Vera Stokes of Bronwood; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Johnnie Medley Hagan
THOMASVILLE - Johnnie Medley Hagan of Thomasville died Thursday, December 29, 2005, at Archbold Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, January 7, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Dawson Street United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ramon Hernandez, the Rev. John Bagwell, the Rev. Carl Howard, the Rev. Virgil Lee and the Rev. John Rainey will all have part in the service.
Mrs. Hagan was born October 22, 1929, in Thomas County, a daughter of the late Clark M. Medley and the late Lathie Fallin Medley. She grew up in Thomas County graduating from Pavo High School in 1946, and went on to business college in Atlanta. On June 30, 1950, she was married to D.E. (Pete) Hagan of Thomasville, who survives. She was a member of Dawson Street United Methodist Church, the Joy Circle, U.M.W. and a member of the Suzannah/Wesley Seekers Sunday School Class.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by their six children, Charlotte Cochran and her husband, Jimmy of Sylvester, Gene Hagan and his wife, Jean of Thomasville, Joel Hagan of Thomasville, Gail Hagan of Atlanta, Dale Hagan and his wife, Marie of Thomasville and Lisa Hagan Bryant of Cairo; six grandchildren, Lindsay Clay, Corky Hagan, Janet Hagan, Courtney Cochran, Noah Bryant and Brooke Hagan; and one great-grandchild, Megan Clay; a brother, Elzie Medley; and four sisters, Marie Crosby, Janie Ellis, Una Lewis, and Nadine McNeil.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Clark L. Medley and James L. Medley.
The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

Karen Estelle Wiedenmann Murray
ALBANY - Karen E. Murray, 60, of Lumpkin died Monday, January 2, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus.
Karen was born June 24, 1945, in Tulsa, OK, daughter of the late William F. Wiedenmann and Vivian F. Merwin Wiedenmann. She graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Tulsa. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years and was currently retired. She was a member of Lumpkin United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Franklin (Jerry) Wiedenmann and a sister, Suzanne Wiedenmann Watson.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2006, at Lumpkin United Methodist Church, Lumpkin, GA, with the Rev. Jeff Brown officiating.

Survivors include her daughter and husband, Jean S. Bostwick and Turner of Arlington; four sons and their wives, John O.
