ATLANTA - Frances Piel, 78, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at her home in Decatur. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rachelle and Alan Bitterman of Albany; son Duane Piel and his partner, Chuck Maxwell, of Decatur, and grandson and spouse, Brad and Kim Bitterman of Roswell.
Mrs. Piel was a member of Ahavath Achim Synagogue since near its inception. With her late husband, Erwin, she practiced her craft as an artist and ran the family business, House of Colors. She was a graduate of the first class of the Atlanta Art Institute.
Graveside services will be held today at Crest Lawn Memorial Park with Rabbi Analia Bortz officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Atlanta Hospice and Pallative Care, the Albany Hospice, or to the American Cancer Society.

SYLVESTER - Arlene Williams Powell, 82, of Sylvester, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Phoebe Worth Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Providence Cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Gordon will officiate.
Born October 20, 1920, in Worth County, Mrs. Powell was a homemaker and a member of New Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Van and Earlene Powell and Vick and Marilyn Powell, all of Sylvester; one sister, Elizabeth Dorminey of Shingler; four grandchildren, Britton Powell, Barrett Powell, Amanda Powell and Clint Powell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Prentice Powell and parents, Robert Lafayette Williams and Rena Watson Williams.
The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Banks Funeral Home.

ALBANY - Gloria Cecilia Quinn, 75, of Albany passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Lebanon National Cemetery in Lebanon, KY.
Mrs. Quinn was a homemaker and had lived in Albany since 1964.
She is survived by her husband, William Walter Quinn, of Albany; son, Wayne Quinn Sr. of Albany; two sisters, Louise Cassidy of Prospect, KY, and Rose Korkemaz of NY; and three grandchildren.

Loyd Cecil Boyd
DAWSON - Loyd Cecil Boyd, 76, of Dawson, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Palmyra Medical Centers. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Dawson United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Sapp officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Boyd was a native of Clayton, AL, born August 31, 1926, son of the late William Nicky Boyd and Elma Carroll Boyd. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. He moved to Terrell County in 1959, and was self-employed in the trucking and land clearing business.
He was a member of Dawson United Methodist Church, the Berean Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Men. He served in many positions in the church and was chairman of the Usher Committee for 20 years.
He was a member of the P.T. Masonic Lodge #229, Scottish Rite and York Rite, the Eastern Star, the Dawson Shrine Club and the Hasan Shrine Temple, and served for many years as a volunteer driver for the Shriner's Hospital for Children. He was a member of the Dawson Rotary Club and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn C. Boyd of Dawson; two sons, Cecil David Boyd of Dawson and Robert Nicky Boyd of Valdosta; a daughter, Donna Susan Baldwin of Owasso, OK; two brothers, Dempsey Boyd of Clayton, AL, and James Henry "Hilly" Boyd of Dothan, AL; nine grandchildren, Michael Boyd of Kingsland, Loder Boyd of Perry, Donna Baldwin of Tulsa, OK, Andrew Baldwin of Aloha, OR, Kathy B. Nutall of Kaysville, Utah, Robin B. Langston of Owasso, OK, David Baldwin of Ft. Sill, OK, Kimberly McMillan of Valdosta, and Kelly Peters of Jacksonville, FL; and five great-grandchildren.

BLAKELY - Ben Harris Hayes, 69, of 29901 Highway 39 N., Blakely, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at his residence.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Blakely Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Odom will officiate.
Born May 1, 1933, in Early County, Mr. Hayes was retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 24 years. He was also a retired farmer and member of Bethel Baptist Church in Clay County.
Survivors include his wife, Syble Craft Hayes of Blakely; daughter, Linda Williams of Statesboro; son, John Hayes of Augusta; stepdaughter, Terrye McDonald of Morgan; stepson, Roger Cashwell of Blakely; father, John Hayes of Edison; two brothers, James Hayes of Edison and Douglas Hayes of Fayetteville; one grandson, Ian Harris Hayes of Augusta.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Sims Hayes.
