Mrs. Pope lived a blessed life. She and her husband, Stinnett Pope, had four children.
Mrs. Pope received her early education in the Fayette County School System in Kentucky. She later studied at Kentucky State University. As a result of her love for people and the community in which she lived, Mrs. Pope participated in helping others who were less fortunate with their daily necessities of life. She served as a volunteer in many civic and social agencies. Also, because of her need to serve, Mrs. Pope joined the Eastern Star where she served as the Past Matron, and the Daughters of Isaiah. With a quite and gracious spirit, Mrs. Pope continued to touch the lives of those who knew and loved her dearly. She retired from Miller Brewery in 1997.
She believed that the Bible was her main source of daily instruction for life and in all circumstances her family encountered. As a result, she accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Main Street Baptist Church in Lexington, KY. Upon her arrival in Albany, Mrs. Pope joined the First Institutional Baptist Church and was a faithful member until deciding to join a congregation in a community closer to home. Thus, she joined Greater 2nd Mt. Olive Baptist Church Family. She was an avid and committed member until her demise. Mrs. Pope worked with the Senior Care ministry with their endeavors for the elderly. Characteristically, on the day of her final morning on earth, although not feeling well, she still insisted on going to church and made it to the church parking lot.
Mrs. Georgia P. Pope is survived by a devoted and caring husband of 47 years, Mr. Stinnett Pope; three children, Daniel Pope (Tara), Randy Happy (Leslie), Reggie Happy (Rose) and one daughter, Tamu Pope. Other survivors include three lovely granddaughters, Danielle Pope, Kinyonna and Shavoughn Johnson; a grandson, Teron Happy; one uncle, John Mayberry of Lexington, KY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Greater Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church with interment in Union Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Lorenzo Heard will officiate.
