James P. Craft
GAINESVILLE - Dr. James P. Craft passed away Friday, December 12, 2003. Dr. Craft and his wife, Carolyn Martin, moved to Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville April 11, 2001.
Dr. Craft celebrated his 90th birthday on November 1. He and Carolyn have been married for 66 years. They were wed in La Rochelle, France in 1937.
James Craft had a distinguished 34 year naval career. During World War II he earned the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart while Captain of the USS Roe in the Pacific. Other assignments included a tour of duty on the Joint Staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Commodore of destroyers assigned to the U.S. Navy Sixth Fleet.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Dr. Craft also received a masters degree in Marine Engineering from MIT and a PhD in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania. He later served as Dean of Men at the University of Pennsylvania and Vice-President of Ursinus College.
For the last 20 years before retirement in 1998, Dr. Craft served as a professional financial advisor in Austin Texas.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Craft is survived by three children, the Rev. Dr. Carolyn M. Craft of Farmville Va., James P. Craft III of Irvine Ca., and Frederick G. Craft of Salt Lake City Utah. They had one grandson, Christopher Craft of Salt Lake City.
A memorial service will be held at Lanier Village Estates today at 2 P.M. today. Burial service will be held graveside in Shellman at 11 A.M. Thursday in the Eastview Cemetery.

CAIRO - Randall E. Sadler, 55, died Friday, December 12, 2003, at Hospice House of the Upstate in Anderson, SC.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Forest Baptist Church in Cairo. The Rev. A.C. Gilliard will officiate.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Resnik Sadler of Hartwell; mother, Joyce Ansley Sadler Buckner of Pelham; brother, Ronald M. Sadler of Marietta; sister, Carolyn S. Foreman of Roswell; half sister, Amanda H. Jennings of Buchanan.
Born November 15, 1948, in Grady County, to Edward Sadler and Joyce Ansley Sadler Buckner, Mr. Sadler was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology (BSIE 1975) and Georgia State University (MBA 1978). He trained as a Military Policeman in the US Army (MOS:95B4P). He was a Certified Public Accountant and had taken myriad computer and consulting training courses. Randy spent the early years of his career as an Information Systems Consultant for the large national consulting firms. He started with Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) and ended as a principal with Kurt Salmon Associates where he headed their information Systems Consulting Practice. In 1991, Randy founded Technology Advantage, a small software company that provided sophisticated forecasting and replenishment systems to large distributors along with custom business software. He sold Technology Advantage to Exe Technologies of Dallas, TX, in November 2001, and is now "technically" retired. He was also an Eagle Scout, and a member of the Pine Forest Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran in the 82nd Airborne.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Sadler and half-brother, Bobby Joe Haynes.
Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Clark Funeral Home.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Shannon Marie Bowden, 19, of 100 Kelly Ct., Leesburg who died Sunday at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Billy Hanna will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of Dougherty Co. Miss Bowden had resided in Albany and Leesburg all of her life. She attended Dougherty County and Lee County Schools and attended Albany Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Jimmy Bowden.
Survivors include her father, Ronnie Bowden of Albany; mother, Yvette Gavin of Leesburg; stepfather, Mark Gavin of Leesburg; two brothers, Jason Bowden and Hunter Bowden both of Leesburg; three sisters, Ashley Gavin, Paige Gavin, and Brandi Gavin all of Leesburg; paternal grandmother, Sandra Bowden of Lee Co.; maternal grandparents, Richard and Pat Adams of Albany; maternal great-grandparents, Billy and Hazel Hughes of Albany; two uncles, Scott Bowden of Pensacola, Fla. and Richard Adams of Leesburg; several other aunts and uncles.

Charles Norris Davis
LARGO, Fla. - Charles Norris Davis, 84, died Sunday, February 1, 2004, in Clearwater, FL.
He was born March 29, 1919, in Baker County, GA, and was raised in Albany, GA. He attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, serving as its commander his senior year. He graduated in 1941 with a B.S. degree in Commerce. Following graduation, he worked for the C&S Bank in Savannah, GA, until enlisting in the Army in June 1942. He married the former Harriett H. Etheredge of Albany, GA, in December 1942. After extensive training at Wake Forest and Duke Universities, he was selected for assignment to the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and sent to Kunming, China in 1943. He became the finance officer for the China theater and recieved a bronze star for his service. After the war, he remained with the OSS' successor organizations which became the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). While with the CIA, he served two foreign tours and traveled extensively throughout the world. He rose to the highest ranks in the CIA before retiring in December 1971, receiving the Intelligence Medal of Merit.
Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Seminole, FL, and spent summers in their cabin near Hedgesville, WV. He was one of the charter members of the Tides Golf Club where he was the Men's Club Champion for 11 years and also held the long-standing course record score of 63. He greatly enjoyed his summers in WV, where he made toys for children and took nature walks. He was an active member of the Christ Presbyterian Church of Largo, FL. He lived a long and happy life, enjoying a successful career, skill in many games and sports and the during love of his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Harriett E. Davis; two sons, Brian C. Davis of Hampton, VA, and John E. Davis and his wife, Cathryn of Herndon, VA; one daughter, Laura Pinno-Benigni and her husband, Jack of Aberdeen, MD; three grandchildren, Krisna D. Becker and her husband, Chuck of Clarksburg, MD, Kara L. Davis of Washington, D.C., and Brycen C. Davis of Brisbane, Australia; and a sister, Marcia Doty and her husband, Donald of St. Petersburg, FL.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today in Christ Presbyterian Church, 3115 Dryer Ave., Largo, FL 33770.

ALBANY - MGSGT Grady Lee Hicks, USMC (Ret.), 81, of 2701 Brittany Rd., died Monday, February 2, 2004, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following an illness.

A native of Floyd County, GA, Mr. Hicks had lived in Albany since 1960 and retired on November 1, 1974, from the US Marine Corps and served during WW II, Korean Conflict and Viet Nam War. He later retired from Civil Service at MCLB. Mr. Hicks was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church, a life Deacon, Doug Flowers Sunday School Class and also attended Gillionville Baptist Church. He was a member and past president of the Albany Civitan Club, a member of American Legion Post #30 and was vice-president of Camera America. Mr. Hicks is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Payne Hicks who died September 29, 1990, a son, Donald Hicks and 2 brothers.
Survivors include a son, David A. Hicks and his wife, Barbara of Albany; daughter, Debbie H. Arnold and husband, Tom of Hawkinsville; sister, Ellazine Parks of Fort Wayne, IN; 5 grandchildren, Katie Arnold of Macon, Lina Arnold of Athens, Andrew Arnold of Hawkinsville, Laurel Hicks and Ashley Hicks, both of Albany; nephew, Greg Hicks and wife, Nita and their children, Zachery and Mariah Hicks of North Vernon, IN, and also several other nieces and nephews.
