ALBANY - Elyse Jones, 81, of Miller County Nursing Home, Colquitt, formerly of Albany, died Monday, February 2, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 PM at Kimbrell-Stern Chapel with the Rev. Greg Adkins officiating.
A native of Worth County, Mrs. Jones lived in Albany until a few years ago. She was a member of Riverside Holiness Baptist Church in Moultrie.
Survivors include two sons, Glen Jones of Gordon, Ala. and Tony Dervan of Echo, Ala.; a daughter, Jackie Jones Pigeon of Scottsdale, AZ.; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bloncile Walker of North Augusta, SC, and Betty Barfield of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; a brother, Donald Ruis of Sylvester.

ALBANY - Willie Gordon Newell, 79, of Albany died Monday, February 2, 2004, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hall & Hall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ross Powell and the Rev. Allen Case officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
A native of Bridgeboro, GA, Mr. Newell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired civil service worker of the Marine Corps Logistics Base and formerly a distributor for Murray Biscuit Company and a route supervisor of Colonial Dairies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Frank and Bertha Louise Newell; two brothers, Jim Newell and Mutt Newell; and a grandson, James Ross III of Atlanta, GA.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Ruth Olive Newell of Albany; four daughters, Ann Case of Elizabethtown, KY, Phyllis Powell of Cumming, GA, Beth Hedrick of Columbiana, AL, Pam Cornaire of Rincon, GA; one son, Gordon Newell Jr. of Albany, GA; three sisters, Jewell Evans of Auburn, GA, Wilma Zimmerman of Ferndale, WA, Sara Milling of Leesburg, GA, and one brother, Charlie Frank Newell Jr. of Tallahassee, FL; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Albany Community Hospice.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Born October 29, 1924, in Decatur Co., Mrs. Durden was a secretary and bookkeeper. She retired after 44 years with Farmers Fertilizer & Milling Co. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her mother, Hattie Crawford Tabb of Colquitt; one brother, W. Felix Tabb Jr. and sister-in-law Iva of Colquitt; three sisters, Merle Merritt & Joanne Grimsley both of Colquitt and Juanita Lockhart of Cusseta; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stokes Durden, in 1970.

VALDOSTA - James Wilbur McAllister, 86, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2004.
He was born on October 25, 1917, in Brooks County, to the late James and Alice Wilson McAllister. He graduated from Barney High School in 1934, completed his undergraduate degree from Middle Georgia College and Georgia Southern. His graduate degrees were completed at Venderbilt University and Florida State University and received an Honorary Doctor of Law degree form LaGrange College. He was a well known and highly respected educator in GA for over 43 years. He served as state president of both of the state's teacher's organizations, the Georgia Education Association and the Professional Association of GA Educators. He was state president of the GA Association of School Superintendents, a member of Phi Delta Kappa where he was presented the distinguished service award in 1983. He was a district director of the GA Association of Educational Leaders. Mr. McAllister taught at Echols County High School, Pavo High School and the Laboratory High School at GA Southern. He was the principal of Tifton High School where he also served as the girl's basketball coach, was supervising principal of the schools in Bainbridge, superintendent of the Troup County schools and retired as superintendent of the LaGrange City School System. Mr. McAllister was a member of the Rotary Club in Bainbridge and LaGrange, having served as president of the Bainbridge Rotary Club and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a board member of the State YMCA. Mr. McAllister was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Mr. McAllister was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ola Balkcom McAllister and is survived by his daughter and son in law, KK and Vance McLaughlin of St. Marys; son, Jim McAllister of Athens; granddaughter and her husband, Ansley and Mark Anderson of Omaha, NE.; grandson, Brad Youmans of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; step grandson, Jim McLaughlin of LaGrange; brother, Guy McAllister of Valdosta, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman with the Rev. Guy McAllister Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd., NE, Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345.
