ALBANY - Hazel Carter Smith of Albany died Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at her residence.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, 11 AM at Kimbrell- Stern with interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Dr. Andrew Goode officiating.
A native of Albany, GA, Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany and was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include her son, Harry E. Davis and his wife, Carolyn of Dalton, GA; grandson, Phillip Hancock and his wife, Jennifer of Alpharetta, GA; two great- grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Gordon and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Carter, both of Jacksonville, FL, a longtime special friend, Mamie Smith of Albany and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Warren (Taxi) Smith; daughter, Eleanor Davis Sheppard; two grandsons, J. Paul Davis and Henry (Hank) Davis.
The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Saturday from 10 AM until the funeral hour.

ALBANY - Ethel Lee Williams of Albany died January 29, 2007.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with interment in Riverside Cemetery. Brother James Jackson will officiate.
Mrs. Williams was born February 16, 1925, to Luke Carter and Lucy Mackey Carter, in Baker County. In September 1942, she married Lynwood Charles “L.C.” Williams. Mrs. Williams resided in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, before returning to her home in Albany, GA. During this time, she owned and operated a successful family business. Many still remember her store on McJones called L.C. Grocery, where they were always greeted with a warm smile and friendly conversation.
Ethel dedicated her life to Jehovah once she learned the Truth afterwards symbolizing by water baptism in 1957.
Those who will cherish her memory by following her precepts and examples include: her daughter, JoAnne Louise Jones and son-in-law, Marvin L. Jones; son, James “Bo” Williams and daughter-in-law, Juanita Williams of Albany. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane and a brother, Leo Carter; grandchildren, Marvietta L. McKnight (Michael, Sr.), Debra L. Jones, Jan D. Thomas, all of Atlanta, Jeromy D. Jones (DaJaneshia) of Albany, Latrecia Williams of St. Louis, MO, Dexter Williams, Keisha Williams, Tracey Williams, Robert Doctrie, Lincoln Williams, all of Albany; a host of great-grandchildren, family and friends; caregiver, Emma Patricia Cole.

SYLVESTER - Eugene H. Wyles, 72, passed away in his sleep Wednesday morning, January 31, 2007, in his home in Sylvester.
His wife, Gail would like for his friends to know about the arrangements celebrating his life.
Viewing times with the family will be Friday, February 2, 2007, at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church in Sylvester from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Pinson Methodist Church in Sylvester with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery with Dr. Dan Williamson officiating.
Eugene was born in Palatka, FL, raised in Jacksonville, FL, and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School Class of 1952. He served in the United States Navy on the battleship USS New Jersey and graduated from the Naval School of Music, Washington, D.C. During that time, he married his high school sweetheart, Gail Ogden, whom he met in the band. Later, he earned a BFA from the University of Florida and an MME from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, IL.
Eugene has been the director of the concert band at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for the past 16 years. He retired from Worth County High School in Sylvester after serving as band director for 31 years. He was Conductor of the Albany Youth Symphony from 1986 to 1988. Eugene devoted 47 years to teaching music. He was affectionately known by his students as “The Bear” and was greatly admired and loved by all. During his 31 years at Worth County, he received many accolades and awards for his work. He was selected as Star Teacher on four separate occasions and was the recipient of the school’s yearbook dedication. In 1993, he was presented the Distinguished Career Award and the Georgia Music Educator’s Association Convention held in Savannah, GA. He is a Past-President of the Georgia Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Mu honorary music fraternity, a Past- State Instrumental Chairman with the Georgia Music Educators’ Association. He was selected as Band Director of the Year at the Southeastern Band Clinic at Troy State University in 1992 and was a member of the Board of Directors for the S.E. and Band Clinic at Troy State University. In January 2005, he was inducted into the Georgia Band Master’s Hall of Fame, which is located in the Lowell Mason Room of the Savannah Civic Center. He was a frequent adjudicator and clinician throughout Georgia, Florida and Alabama.
Eugene and Gail were devoted members of Pinson United Methodist Church where Eugene served as choir director, and Gail organist for the past 47 years. He taught the Christian Fellowship Adult Sunday School Class. The Wyles Family were honored as the Family of the Year in 1979. Eugene and Gail retired from their music ministry in the church at the close of 2006.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail, his mother, Ella June Wyles, both of Sylvester, and the late Carl Eugene Wyles. His children, Julie Gunn (Chester) and their children, Jennifer and Chesley of Chula, Chris Wyles (Gail) and their children, Gene and Derek of Sylvester, Sheri Grabowski (Robert) of Tifton and Eric Wyles (Jennifer) and their children, Ian and Dane of Statesboro.

ALBANY - The graveside funeral service of Gale W. Davis Sr., 83, of Albany, who died Sunday, December 29, 2002, will be conducted Thursday, January 2, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Cedarlawn Cemetery in Jackson, Miss.
A native of Jackson, Miss., Mr. Davis had lived in Albany for the past two years, moving here from Clinton, Miss. He was a retired machinist and was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Ray Davis.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gale W. Davis Jr. of Albany; two granddaughters, Laura Davis Stevens of Rome, GA, and Dana Davis Davidson of Homerville, GA; a brother, Harry R. Davis of Madison, Miss.; five great-grandchildren, Courtney Gale Stevens, John Golden Stevens III, Andrew Rosser Stevens, Morgan Michelle Davidson and Dennis Charles Davidson Jr.

MILLEDGEVILLE - Dennis Terry "Mater Man" Peavy, 57, died Tuesday, December 31, 2002.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home in Milledgeville with burial to follow in Black Springs Church Cemetery.
Mr. Peavy was a native and resident of Baldwin County, but had made his home in Albany for the past five and a half years. He was employed with Georgia Power Company and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his sons, Todd P. Peavy and Randy Peavy, both of Milledgeville; his girlfriend and children, Linda Kirkwood of Albany, Joshua Kirkwood, Ryan Kirkwood and Cassy Kirkwood; brother and sisters, Otis Peavy of Milledgeville, Runelle Bustin, and Dorothy Jones of Eatonton, Barbara Larson, Juanita Hardee, Joyce Miller, Shirley Etheridge all of Milledgeville, Elizabeth Craig of Warner Robins; five grandchildren, Charles Oscar Peavy, Tyler Terrell Peavy, Dianna Gail Peavy, Damon Peavy and Shane Peavy.

ALBANY - Gertrude Florence Ringer, 92, died Monday, December 30, 2002, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie, GA.
A native of Alton, IL, Mrs. Ringer had lived in Philadelphia, PA, with her husband, Melvin, where she was a homemaker and an avid gardener before retiring to Albany in 1970.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Debra Watson, of Warwick, GA.
