DAWSON - Virginia B. Massey, 81, of Bronwood died on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at her residence. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Chapel of Harvey Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Parker and the Rev. Brooks Partain officiating.
Mrs. Massey was born on October 24, 1921 in Whigham, GA. Mrs. Massey was a graduate of Whigham High School and Freeman Business College in Albany. Mrs. Massey worked with the Bank of Terrell as a teller for four years, the Dawson Trading Post as a bookkeeper for 10 years. She also worked with the family business, Massey Wholesale Company as a sales person for 15 years and the Dawson News as a news correspondent for a number of years.
Mrs. Massey was a member of the Bronwood United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Murray Heath Sunday School Class, the Mary Brantley Chapter of the UDC, and the Gideon Auxiliary-Dawson Camp.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Mosden Brock and Morris Brock, both of Whigham.
Survivors include her husband, Ed L. Massey Jr. of Bronwood; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Mary Massey, Edward and Donna Massey and Tom and Jill Massey, all of Dawson; nine grandchildren, David Massey, Vicki Massey, and Richard Massey, all of Atlanta, Kevin Massey, Brian Massey, Mark Massey, Brock Massey, Khristina Massey and Sherrer Massey, all of Dawson; one sister, Doris Arline of Augusta; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Edsel and Martha Brock of Whigham, Leonard and Willow Brock of Fort Worth, TX, and Lynwood and Donna Brock of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bronwood United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 9, Bronwood, GA 39826 and to the Gideons, P.O. Box 502, Dawson GA 39842.

DONALSONVILLE - Betty Jones Rumble, 73, of Donalsonville, passed away Friday morning, January 3, 2003 at her residence.
Memorial services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, with the Rev. Weyman Cleveland and the Rev. Jerry Lott officiating. Visitation will be held today (Sunday), from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. There will be a second memorial service to be held on Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church in Dahlonega, with the Rev. Gerry Davis and the Rev. Charles William officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem/ Jones Cemetery in Dahlonega.
Mrs. Rumble was born in Dahlonega, on June 25, 1929 to the late Fred C. and Ada M. Jones. She graduated from Lumpkin County High School in 1946, attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega, and married Neal Rumble Sr. on September 11, 1949.
Betty spent 20 years in Thomasville before moving to Warner Robins, where she began an impressive 15 year career in Real Estate. She became a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, was named Realtor of the Year, and Citizen of the Year by the Board of Realtors. In 1996, Betty and Neal retired to Lake Seminole and she went to work in Real Estate for Burke Realty, where she retired in July 2002.
After surviving a bout of cancer in 1983, "Miss" Betty immediately began a 20 year span of service with the American Cancer Society. She undertook this project with great enthusiasm pride for the mission of the ACS until her last days. She was honored in 1993-94 with both of Georgia's highest awards: the Quality of Life Award and the Reach to Recovery Award. She was also active in starting the Relay for Life Program for Seminole County.
She was active member of the Friendship United Methodist and the Addie Brigham Sunday School Class. She was characterized by an unwavering faith in God and has served all of her churches in various roles ranging from Sunday School Teacher to South Georgia Conference Delegate. She was also a life time member of the United Methodist Women's Club. She was also a member of the Donalsonville Garden Club and the Donalsonville Woman's Club. "Miss" Betty was distinguished by a life of service to many and varied community service organizations.
Mrs. Rumble leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 53 years; Neal Rumble Sr.; four children, Neal Jr. and wife, Charlotte of Bainbridge, Anne Rumble of Dothan, AL, Leah Dixon of Marietta, SC, and Frederick Bert Rumble of Panama City, FL; one sister, Llenell Sanderson of Alpharetta; five grandchildren, Ansley Gambrell, Louie Gambrell, Al Rumble, Heather Dugas, and Chad Dugas; and three great-grandchildren, Madison Shirley, Dreyton Dugas and Cheyenne Dugas.

ALBANY - The funeral services of Leon Ottis Jones, 87, of Poulan, who died Saturday, January 4, 2003, will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Newman will officiate. Interment will follow in Poulan City Cemetery with military honors.
A native and life long resident of Poulan, Mr. Jones had lived in Albany for a short time with his niece, Sybil Collins. Mr. Jones was the retired manager of the V.F.W. in Poulan and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Poulan. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in Normandy, Rhineland and Northern France and received the Meritorious United Award, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, with three bronze stars. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Sallie and Stephen Jones, his brother, Elmer Stephen Jones, sisters, Maurine Evans, Myrtle Knight and Julia Aultman.
Survivors include his two sisters, Sara Smith of Jacksonville, FL, and Elizabeth Knight of Savannah; nieces and nephews, Sybil Collins of Albany, Della Johnson of Columbia, SC, Dorothy Hunter, Liz Keel, John Knight Jr., Lucretia Smith, and Jackie Clark, all of Savannah, Shirley Blitch of Statesboro, Wylene Haney of Sylvester, Betty Gresham of Decatur, Janice Miller of Albany, Buddy Autlman of Richburg, SC, Bobbie Hodge of Manchester, TN, Annette Lamb of Savannah, Junior Jones of Roswell, Gene Jones of Poulan, Nita MacDonald of Oakridge, TN, Yvonne Terry of Albany, Jimmy Knight, Johnny Knight, J.C. Born June 29, 1916 in Miller County, Mrs. Sammons was a housewife and a member of Mount Olive Holiness Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sara S. and Bob Tabb of Colquitt, and Eloise and David Clearman of Albany; six grandchildren, Sharon McNair, Sheila Switzer, Davy Clearman, Jerrianne Taaffe, Denise Thompson and Eric Sheffield; and eight great-grandchildren, Stephanie Clark, Lindsey Clark, Logan Taaffe, Levi Sheffield, Jason Lamb, Josh Lamb, Noelle Clearman, and Jonathan McNair.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hall & Hall Funeral Home. Interment will be at Cool Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Joe Brown officiating with military honors.
Mr. Bradley was born in Seminole, OK. He was employed 15 years at Gray Distribution as a supervisor, and had worked at Firestone for 17 years. He also served in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Jean Bradley of Albany; mother, Nova B. Bradley of Andrews, TX; son and daughter-in-law, David and Holli Bradley of Sylvester; daughter, Debbie Couch of Albany; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Mac Layfield of Sylvester; brother and sister-in-law, Otis Wayne and Linda Bradley of Smithmills, KY; five grandchildren, Brad Couch, Haylei Bradley, Riley Bradley, Taylor Layfield and Tyler Layfield.

ALBANY - Donald Daniel Herzog, 83, of Kihei, Hawaii, formerly of Albany, died Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, HI. The funeral will be held today at Ballard Family Mortuary, Kahului, HI.
A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Mr. Herzog was stationed at Darr Aereo Tech during World War II. He was graduate of the Clearly College in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and retired as an accountant with Lockheed Company in California. He returned to Albany in 1981 and lived here until 2000. He was a member of the Kihei Baptist Chapel. While in Albany he was a member and volunteer of Sherwood Baptist Church. He also volunteered at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and coached Little League baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Newell Herzog and a daughter, Patricia Herzog Ward both of Kehei, HI; a son, Keith and wife Jane Herzog of San Jose, CA; a daughter, Betty Herzog of Hilo, HI, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
