COLQUITT - Fred Williams, 75, of Colquitt died Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Miller County Hospital.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with interment in Primitive Union Cemetery with Military Honors. The Rev. Robert Johns will officiate with Billy Wayne Cross giving a eulogy.
Active pallbearers will be Ray Henley, Glynn Henley, Wayne Cannon, Brandon Cook, Gene Cowart and Billy Wayne Cross.
A native of Miller County, Mr. Williams was born February 14, 1927. He was a retired plant manager at McLendon Meat Co. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War. He was a Front Line Combat Medic and was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Medical Badge, W-1 Bronze Service Star, Occupational Medal (Germany), Korean Service Medal W-1, and the WW II Victory medal. He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Williams of Colquitt; two daughters, Brenda Sue Cowart of Colquitt and Debra Kay Williams of Colquitt; one son-in-law, Gene Cowart of Colquitt; one son, Neil D. Williams of Colquitt; three grandchildren, Brandon Cook, Jordann Thoman, Taylor Michelle Williams; one great-grandchild, Brandon Cook Jr.

ALBANY - The Episcopal funeral service of Peyton Cook Greaves, Ph.D., 74, of Albany who died Monday, January 6, 2003, will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at the family church, Chapel of the Cross, in Madison, MS. The Rev. David Christian will officiate.
Dr. Greaves was born and spent his formative years growing up in Jackson, MS. He graduated from Central High School, attended Ole Miss at Oxford, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and received his doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi. In later years, he taught both at Vanderbilt University and the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Greaves served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Turner Field. Dr. Greaves had resided in Albany for many years before moving to Franklin, TN, to practice. He practiced for over thirty years, part of that time in Albany. Dr. Greaves returned to the Albany area three years ago.
Survivors include six daughters, Julia Read Salter and Carlton Edwards, both of Albany, Mamie Gray Clark, Katie Douglas Rozell and Delia Williams Frazier, all of Cartersville and Bridget Peyton Wilson of Pensacola, FL; a brother, Elmore Douglas Greaves II of Madison, MS; a sister, Joyce Greaves Stewart of Jackson, MS; an uncle, Hartwell Cook of Jackson, MS; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six nieces and three nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wright-Ferguson at Parkway.

A native of Randolph County, Ms. Jefferson-James was born December 13, 1909. She was a retired dietitian with the Dougherty County Board of Education. She attended Randolph County public schools. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Albany.
Survivors include two daughters, Ola Mae Roach of Albany and Lucy L. Daniels of West Palm Beach, FL; two sons, Jack James of Detroit, MI, and Earlie James of Jacksonville, FL; and 11 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

Burial will follow in Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday evening, January 7, 2003, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
Mrs. Alday was born February 29, 1920, to the late Carl Spooner Sr. and Lola Widner Spooner. She was the wife of the late Everette "Bud" Alday, a loving mother and grandmother, and a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church.
Mrs. Alday leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Becky Barber and her husband Roy of Donalsonville; two sons, Joseph "Tuddy" Alday and his wife Robin of Donalsonville and Tommy Alday and his wife Donna of Donalsonville; two sisters, Mary Lynn and Louise Godby, both of Donalsonville; a brother, Don Spooner and his wife Joanna of Donalsonville; and five grandchildren, Nikki Barber, Joel Alday, Mandy (Russell) Barber, Zack Alday, and Ashley Alday. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Spooner Jr. and a sister, Euna Gibson.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Godby, Lewis Godby, Andy Alday, Danny Johnson, Tony Johnson, and David Johnson.

COLQUITT - Jacob Isaac Black, 84, of Hoover, AL, formerly of Colquitt, GA, died Saturday, January 4, 2003, at the University of Alabama in Birmingham Hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Colquitt City Cemetery with military honors. The Rev. Jerry McArthur will officiate.
Mr. Black was born November 24, 1918, in Miller County. He retired from Flowers Baking Company after 36 years of service. Mr. Black held many positions including the Board of Directors and plant president of the Opelika Alabama Bakery and plant president in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He served in the United States Navy during WW II.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Black of Hoover, AL; one son, David Black of Dadeville, AL; one daughter, Susan Black Trankina of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Greene, Mark Trankina and Kate Trankina; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Black Greene; one brother, Noah Black of Colquitt; two sisters, Katherine Black of Colquitt and Lillian Williams of Cordele.
Visitation will be 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A native of Baker County, Mr. Cook was born December 1, 1935. He was retired from the maintenance department of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. He had retired earlier from the United States Army after 22 years of service. He was a Vietnam veteran. Mr. Cook was a member of Kimbrel's Chapel Church of God. He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Cook.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cook of Colquitt; son, Mark Cook of Colquitt; daughter-in-law, Kathy Cook of Colquitt; two sisters, Frankie Phillips and Jeannette Scott, both of Colquitt; four brothers, Sarince Cook Jr., Aubrey Cook, Louis Cook, and Terry Cook, all of Colquitt; six grandchildren, Mallory Cook, Morgan Cook, Mark Cook II, DeAnna O'Berry, Brittney O'Berry, and Jonathan Brown.
A military guard will serve as pallbearers.

DAWSON - Walter Lindsey Herrington, 78, of Bronwood died Monday, January 6, 2003, at Dawson Manor Nursing Home. The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at the graveside in the Bronwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Herrington and the Rev. Tommy McDonald officiating.
Mr. Herrington was a native and lifelong resident of Terrell County, born December 31, 1924, son of the late Floyd Lee Herrington and Carrie Wiggins Herrington. He graduated from Bronwood High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a retired farmer and a member of Bronwood United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Carlisle Herrington and his second wife, Jackie Pines Herrington.
Survivors include two sons, Buster Herrington and Rex Herrington, both of Bronwood; two daughters, Mary Jean Draper of Leesburg and Sandra Wilkerson of Albany; a brother, Floyd Lee Herrington Jr. of Americus; and a sister, Grace Hardee of Lanark Village, FL; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
