DESTIN, Fla. - Willa Beasley Clark, 92, of Destin Health Care in Destin, Fla., died Monday, January 6, 2003, at Destin Health Care.
The graveside funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Blakely Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Worseley will officiate.
Mrs. Clark was born June 1, 1910, in Early County where she lived most of her life. She was a retired sales clerk and a member of First Baptist Church of Blakely.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jimmy Clark and Theresa of Griffin; four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Clark was a well known and well loved lady. She loved everyone and especially her five grandchildren, Todd Clark and wife, Sandi of Milnor, Dr. Jeff Clark and wife, Patti of Molena, Dana Chandler and husband, Brent of Destin, Fla., John Morris of Madison and Steven Morris of Carrollton, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Herman "Speedy" Clark; two daughters, Marilou C. Bush and Judy C. Morris and parents, John Thomas Beasley and Mary Etta Jordan Beasley.

OCILLA - Estelle M. Freeman, 96, of the Holt Community in Irwin County, died Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Holt Baptist Church in Irwin County with interment in Spring Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Sonny Pate, the Rev. David Biggers and the Rev. John Gibbs will officiate.
A native of Berrien County, Mrs. Freeman was born March 8, 1906. She lived in the community most of her life. She was a homemaker and a former manager of the lunch room at Holt School. Mrs. Freeman was a former member of the Home Demonstration Club and a member of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Leila (Griffin) Mobley and Warren Mobley. She was preceded in death by a son, James Kenneth Paulk, her first husband, Lonnie Paulk, four sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include her husband, D.J. "Jack" Freeman of Irwin County; a son and daughter-in-law, Orman and Wilma Paulk of Ocilla; daughter-in-law, Nellie Paulk of Moultrie; sister, Ruth Odum of Ocilla; two grandchildren, Ronald Paulk of Waycross and Linda Duncan of Moultrie; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

CUTHBERT - Trudye Lee Brannon Garrett was called home to continue her journey of life on Saturday, January 4, 2003.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Payne Chapel AME Church in Cuthbert. The Rev. Thomas D. Ferguson, pastor will officiate.
Mrs. Garrett was born on November 1, 1915, in Cuthbert to the late Dave and Estelle Brannon. She was the wife of the late Henry C. Garrett, the grandmother of the late Veronica Renee Thompson and sister of the late Doris R. Pullins.
In her early childhood, she joined Payne Chapel AME Church where she served faithfully in all aspects of church life. As a devoted member she sang in the choir, served on the Pastor's Aide Board, class leader of #1, and was a steward.
Mrs. Garrett completed elementary and high school at Randolph County Schools. She received her BS degree in home economics from Savannah State College in Savannah. She also did graduate work at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, and Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, Florida. Her professional career included teaching home economics two years at Sasser Junior High, in Sasser, and five years at Carver High School in Douglas. The remainder of her dedicated teaching career was a 29 year period at Randolph County High School, Cuthbert. She received numerous recognitions and awards for outstanding service to Vocational Home Economics Education.
The community was an important part of her active life. She served on many committees and boards within the community of Cuthbert. She was a founding member of the Civican Club and the Randolph/Clay Retired Educators Association. She held every office in both of these organizations. She served as member of the Randolph County Library Committee for the development of the new library. She also served as the immediate past Historian of the Retired Educators Association for Randolph County.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted and loving daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Earl Thompson; grandson, Earl M. Thompson Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Marissa and Maurice Thompson, all of Dayton, Ohio. A loving sister-in-law, Deloris Chapman and nephew, William (Buster) Adams of Columbus, Ohio. Two loyal and devoted cousins, Lucia Harris of Miami, Fla., Jeanette Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y., a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Mother Dear is not saying good bye, but is preparing a welcome for each of us to the kingdom of God.

A native of Miller County, Mrs. Givens was born August 15, 1935. She was a homemaker and a member of Kimbrel's Chapel Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry David Givens; a daughter, Joyce Anne Chase; and two sisters, Haudell Cook and Katrina Stinson.
Survivors include a son, James Givens of Colquitt; four daughters, Brenda Sue Hughes, Debra Bridges, Leashia McMullen and Beverly Tabb, all of Blakely; two sons-in-law, Jerome Bridges and James L. Tabb, both of Blakely; four brothers, C.D. Thompson of Colquitt, Bradley Thompson of Pelham, Frank Thompson of Americus, and Wendell Thompson of Colquitt; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

RICHLAND - James Robert Hillhouse, 82, of 305 Walker St., Richland, died Monday, January 6, 2003, at his residence.
The graveside funeral will be at 11 a.m. today in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Columbus.
A native of Canton, Mr. Hillhouse was born December 30, 1920. He was a hard worker, a devoted husband and father. Mr. Hillhouse retired as a pest control exterminator working for Orkin Pest Control for 20 years and with Horne's Pest Control for 19 years. He was married to Virginia Lee Saines Hillhouse for 61 years. She preceded him in death May 9, 2002. He was the son of the late Esther Mae Millins Hillhouse and James O. Hillhouse. Mr. Hillhouse was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, Jerry (Zelda) Hillhouse of Leesburg; daughter, Bobbie Jean (Wayne) Herran of Olathe, Kansas; sister, Joan Allen of Maryland; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

CUTHBERT - Eugene Talmadge Merritt, 64, of Cuthbert died Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from Mt. Hebron Baptist Church near Cuthbert. The Rev. Jackie Williams and the Rev. David Murphy will officiate with interment in the church cemetery.
Mr. Merritt was born May 3, 1938, in Randolph County, son of the late Key S. Merritt and Jessie Phelps Merritt. He was the owner of M & M Logging Inc. and was very active in Mt. Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Engram Merritt of Cuthbert; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Charles "Rooster" and Tammy Merritt and Richard Daryle and Lisa Merritt, all of Cuthbert; a brother, Roy Merritt of Cuthbert; a sister, Thelma Cannington of Morris and three grandchildren, Carrie Ann Merritt, Drake Merritt and Jesse Merritt, all of Cuthbert.
The family will receive friends today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

COLQUITT - Eugene Talmadge Smith, 71, of Colquitt, died Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at Miller County Hospital.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with interment in the Colquitt City Cemetery with full military honors. The Rev. Jerry McArthur will officiate.
A native of Miller County, Mr. Smith was born August 20, 1931. He was a retired purchasing director with Miller County Hospital. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Smith of Colquitt; stepmother, Nita Smith of Colquitt; three sons, Steven Smith and wife Carla of Headland, AL, Randy Smith and wife Kay of Colquitt, and Wes Smith of Colquitt; two daughters, Vicki Whitaker of Tallahassee, FL, and Deana Lee and husband Glenn of Colquitt; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Nan Smith of Colquitt; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Vernon Pickren of Colquitt and Debra and Leon Durden of Colquitt; nine grandchildren, Josh Whitaker, Megan Whitaker, Zac Whitaker, Heather Shiver, Gage Smith, Ginger Smith, Blade Smith, James Garrett Smith and Johnathon Smith; two great-grandchildren, Hillary Harrell and Hannah Lee.

CUTHBERT - Elizabeth King Stapleton, 96, of Cuthbert died Sunday, January 5, 2003, in Christiana, Delaware, following a brief illness. She was born November 30, 1906, in Griffin, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. King. She graduated from Andrew College, Cuthbert, and Brenau College in Gainesville. In 1928, she married Theodore Newton Stapleton of Colquitt. Following her husband's career as a Special Agent of the FBI from 1930-1937, she moved with her family to Wilmington, Delaware, where he became a member of the DuPont Company Legal Department. Following her husband's retirement from DuPont Company in 1968, they returned to Elizabeth's family homestead in Cuthbert. After her husband's death in 1992, Elizabeth continued to live in Cuthbert, but she established a second residence at Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, Delaware.
Elizabeth has been a member of Silverside Church in Wilmington since 1940. She was active during World War II in Delaware and served for many years on the Junior Board of the Delaware Hospital. She was a member of the former Garden Club of Cuthbert and was a founding member and an active supporter of the Historical Society of Randolph County. She was a member of the Daughter of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames.
Elizabeth will be remembered for her enduring and enthusiastic love of live and her selfless devotion to her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean S. Hellier and her husband, Samuel B. Hellier of McLean, VA; a son, Walter K. Stapleton and his wife, Georgianna D. Stapleton of Unionville, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at Cokesbury Village. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, January 11, 2003, at 2 p.m. in Eastview Cemetery in Cuthbert.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Phylis Ann Catlin, 56, of 1108 Seventh Avenue, who died Wednesday, January 8, 2003, will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Gillionville Baptist Church. The Rev. Tony Haefs will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of New York, Phylis had resided in Albany for the past ten years moving here from Atlanta, where she retired from the Atlanta Police Department. She was secretary of Gillionville Baptist Church, a member of Ed Wosotowsky Sunday School class. She was a member of the Albany Womens Club and Gillionville Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Stefanie Grace Catlin of Albany.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at Gillionville Baptist Church.
