JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Funeral services for Richard "Red" Rambo, 59, were held in Jacksonville, Fla., Tuesday, January 21, 2003, with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Rambo died Friday, January 17, 2003, in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born August 22, 1943, in Jacksonville. He attended Jacksonville University where he played baseball. He then played professional baseball with both the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. Mr. Rambo was a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Sean Rambo of Dallas, Texas, and Jason Todd Rambo of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister, Jackie Sheldon of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; brother, William (Bill) Rambo, formerly of Albany, now residing in Atlanta; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

ALBANY - The memorial service of Joseph William (Lucky) Veitch Jr., 50, of 607 Sapling Lane, who died Monday, January 20, 2003, will be held today at 3 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Chip Gresham will officiate.
A native of the Philippines, Mr. Veitch had lived in Albany most of his life. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worked for Floor Mechanix of Albany. Mr. Veitch was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph W. Veitch Sr. and Louise Heath Veitch, a sister, Gail Burroughs.
Survivors include his wife, Penny Veitch of Albany; a son, Shannon Veitch of Athens; a daughter, Niki Saavedra of Athens; two stepdaughters, Sheri Westbrook of Athens and Stacy Morley of Woodstock; a stepson, Joseph Jacobs of Albany; two sisters, Nancy Stephens and Nita Falvella, both of Houston, TX; 11 grandchildren.

CAMILLA - William L. (Bill) Bennett, 96, of 629 S. Harney Street, Camilla, died Monday, January 20, 2003, at Camilla Retirement Village.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Camilla United Methodist Church with interment in Oakview Cemetery. The Rev. Gene Yelverton will officiate.
The pallbearers will be Danny Palmer, Jud Vann, Warren Holton, Fred Rossman, Richard Atkinson, Lou Roberts, Warren Roberts and Stone Workman.

Mr. Bennett was born December 12, 1906, in Camilla, Mitchell County, Ga. He was a retired farmer, a Navy veteran, a Master Mason for more than 50 years and a member in good standing of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Georgia. He was a member of Camilla United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Betty Bennett of Camilla; granddaughter, Jodi Perez of Miami, Fla., Harkey Good of Camilla and Rita Good of Santa Barbara, CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rossman Bennett and parents, W.A. and Elizabeth Butler Bennett.
The family will accept family and friends at Bennett Farm House at 629 S. Harney Street, Camilla.

CORDELE - Mary Etta (Mashburn) Cox, 80, of Cordele died at her residence in Cordele, Tuesday, January 21, 2003.
The funeral service will be held at the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services Thursday at 11 a.m. with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele.
Mrs. Cox was born May 20, 1922, in Georgia. She was employed by Cordele Uniform Company as a supervisor.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Faye (Cox) Moore of Cordele; sons, Bill Cox of Tifton and Earl Cox of Albany; brothers, Bob Mashburn and Don Mashburn, both of Lafayette, La.; sisters, Lucille (Mashburn) Wilcox of Pineview, June (Mashburn) Leger of Lafayette, La., Kay (Mashburn) Fisher of Boston, Mass., and Peggy (Mashburn) Martin of Pitts, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Monroe Cox and parents, John Morris Mashburn and Bennie Jewel (McKinney) Mashburn.

WAYCROSS - George L. Johnston, 83, died Monday morning (01-20-03) at the Satilla Care Center after an extended illness. He was a native of Brantley County, son of the late William R. Johnston and Minnie Mae Dryden Johnston Rawls. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as Chief Master Sergeant with twenty-eight years of service during World War Two and the Korean Conflict. He had been making his home in Waycross since 1969, where he retired from Okefenokee RESA as a Technical Service Supervisor after 20 years of service. He was a member of Crawford Street Baptist Church and had served as Sunday School Clerk. A member of the Waycross Shrine Club where he served as Secretary for fourteen years. A member of the Hasan Temple of Albany, Ga., and the VFW Post #4382. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Faye Warnock, two brothers, William Cornelius Johnston and Robert Olen Johnston, and a grandson, Dennis Joseph Puleo.
He is survived by his wife, Rezora Thompson Johnston of Waycross; a son, Dennis Michael Johnston, wife Judy of Kenner, La.; three daughters, Alice Catherine Volosin, husband Bob of Dundee, Fla., Jeanette Suzanne Braddock of Jacksonville, Fla., and Donna Leigh Hancock, husband Jerry of Waycross; a brother, W.A. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning (01-23-03) at 11 a.m. at Crawford Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Hoboken Cemetery with military honors. The Waycross Shrine Club and the Timothy Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. They are requested to gather at the church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

ALBANY - Kathryn Boynton Harris, 82, died of cancer.
Mrs. Harris was born February 16, 1920, in Albany, GA, the eighth of nine children of Moses Tilden Boynton and Ouida Cannon Boynton. She grew up in Albany, graduating from Albany High School, Class of 1937, and the University of Georgia with a degree in home economics in 1941. She married J. Robert Harris Jr. on September 10, 1941, and resided in Bethesda, Maryland. She enjoyed pottery, gourmet cooking, gardening, tennis and golf. Mrs. Harris twice experienced a hole-in-one, the first at Rehoboth Country Club and the second at the Card Sound Golf Club in Key Largo, FL.
She was a longtime member of the Bethesda Women's Garden Club and was active with St. John's Episcopal Church in Bethesda, Maryland.
Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, J. Robert Harris Jr. of Key Largo, FL, and Rehoboth Beach, DE; four children, Janette Crespo of San Juan, P.R., Susan McHugh of Naples, FL, J. Robert Harris III of Glen Arm, MD, and Richard T. Harris of Millers, MD. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2003, at Ocean Reef Chapel, Key Largo, FL, and a second service at Rehoboth Beach, DE, in the summer of 2003.

ALBANY - Kathleen Mode McMillan, 80, of 408 Whippoorwill Drive in Albany, GA, died Tuesday, January 21, 2003, in Richardson, Texas.
The funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Friday at First United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Thad Haygood will officiate.
A native of Canton, GA, Mrs. McMillan had lived in Albany since 1963, where she taught at Albany High School and Albany Technical College, retiring in 1985. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Hawke Sunday School Class, and UMW. Mrs. McMillan was a 1943 graduate of Furman University, and a member of ADK and PEO Sisterhood.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Prince of Richardson, Texas; son, Brian McMillan of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren, Rebekah Prince of Beverly Hills, CA, and Christine McMillan of Charleston, SC.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M.- 7:30 P.M. today at Kimbrell Stern.
