The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, January 25, 2003, at House of God Church in Bronwood, GA. Elder Troy Jackson, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church cemetery in Smithville, GA.
She attended the public schools of Lee County, GA. At an early age she joined Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Smithville, GA, and later moved her membership to Bronwood House of God Church in Bronwood, GA, where she served until her health failed.
Left to cherish her legacy of memories are; several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, including a special niece who cared for and looked after her, Daisy L. Hall of Smithville, GA; a sister-in-law, Eula Tucker of Jacksonville, FL.

DAWSON - John G. Hammond Jr., 39, of Dublin died Thursday, January 23, 2003, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Dawson with the Rev. Wyman Richardson, Jim Helms and John Hinson officiating.
Mr. Hammond was a native of Suffolk County, Massachusetts, born June 2, 1963, son of John G. Hammond Sr. and Sally Spagnolo Hammond. He was a 1984 graduate of Massasoit Community College in Brockton, MA. He was a resident of Dawson for ten years before moving to Dublin and a member of First Baptist Church of Dawson.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn Davis Hammond of Dublin; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John G. Hammond Sr. of Dawson; brother, Glenn C. Hammond of Worth County; a sister, Christina Hammond of Albany; maternal grandmother, Teresa Spagnolo of Dawson; niece, Julie Hammond of Dawson; several nieces and nephews.

CHARLESTON, S.C. -Helen Harrell Linder, 82, wife of Jack Lamar Linder Sr. of Charleston, S.C., died Thursday, January 23, 2003. She was born Tuesday, February 3, 1920, in Moultrie, GA, the daughter of the late M. Frank and Opal Ott Harrell. Mrs. Linder was a graduate of Moultrie High School in Georgia and a sales associate for 25 years with Hamilton Jewelers in Charleston.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Nelson L. Little and her husband Gil of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; two sons, Jack L. Linder Jr. and his wife Mary of Easley, S.C., Dr. Stephen E. Linder and his wife Jackie of Chapin, S.C.; a sister, Judith Ann Sanders of Camilla, GA; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2003, at Ashley River Baptist Church in Charleston. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

ALBANY - The Rev. Harris N. Day, 79, of 2606 Whispering Pines Road, died Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at Palmyra Medical Centers.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 3 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, with burial in Floral Memory Garden Cemetery. The Rev. H.B. Johnson Jr. will officiating.
Born November 8, 1923 in Dougherty County, the Rev. Day was an associate minister at Friendship Baptist Church, where he was also a member. He graduated from Madison High School in Albany. He was former president of the NWACP, also president of the South Doughertys Voters League. He was a member of King Solomon Lodge No. 14 and a member of the Golden Key Club.
Survivors include his wife, Flora W. Day of Albany; a sister, Pearl Davis of Hartford, CT; two daughters, Alberta (Kenney) Martin and Elouise Walker, both of Albany; three sons, Calvin Payton and Jerome Wiggins, both of Albany, and Joe (Allie) Dupree of Donalsonville; and 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
The remains of the Rev. Day will lie-in-state at the church on Monday from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour.

ALBANY - James "Jim" Thomas Hammons, 82 of Leesburg Health Care, formerly of Albany passed away, Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Palmyra Medical Centers.
Graveside service will be held Monday, at 1 p.m. at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, GA, with full military honors.
Mr. Hammons was born and raised in Ryland, Kentucky. In 1939, prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, he formed a band with his brothers called "Sleepy Jim and the Barn Owls" and they had their own radio program on WCKY in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He served 30 years in the Marine Corps and served in WWII, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and received numerous military awards, including two Purple Hearts, and being an expert marksman, received numerous pistol championships. He has lived in Albany for the past 44 years and retired from Civil Service in 1973.
He was a member of Morningside United Methodist Church, VFW, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla-13 out of Shellpoint, FL.
He is preceded in death by two sons, Gary W. Hammons and Jimmy Hammons.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Aaron Hammons of Leesburg; a daughter, Lisa Gay McClure of Leesburg; two sons, Troy D. Hammons of Laurel, MD, and Charles T. Hammons of Marietta; a sister, Juanita Drake of Clearwater, FL; and nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Alston was a lifelong resident of Terrell County, born May 5, 1931, son of the late Frank Fletcher Alston Sr. and Mary Alma Massey Alston. Mr. Alston was a retired farmer and salesman with Dawson Motor Company of Dawson.

Born January 29, 1923 in Miller County, Mr. Calhoun was former owner of Automat Printers and Calhoun's Grocery, both in Colquitt. He was of the Baptist faith.

Born June 30, 1936 in Mitchell County, Mrs. Carter was a hairdresser and a member of Pebble City Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late A.J. Hart Sr. and Minnie Mae Boatwright Hart. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Harris.
Survivors include her husband, Ike S. Carter of Sale City; three daughters, Michelle Collins of Thomasville, Angel Barfield of Sale City and Pam Lewis of Maryville, TN; a son, Lance Lewis of Cairo; four stepchildren, Charles Carter of Funston, Gail Littleton of Moultrie, Vivian William and Dan Carter, both of Pelham; five sisters, Ruth Stinson of Camilla, Teva Poitevint of Bainbridge, Jayn Almand of Lake Blackshear, Pauline Lewis and Betty Willingham, both of Sale City; and nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

DAWSON - Seyborn Jett Jr. of Dawson, died at his residence Friday, January 24, 2003. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, with the Revs. Freeman G. Cross Jr. and Fred Collins officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Jett was a native of Morgan Co., AL, born October 18, 1929, son of the late Seyborn Jett and Criner Patterson Jett. He was a retired Chief M/Sgt. with the U.S. Air Force, a veteran of the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts and retired with 31 years of service. He had been a resident of Dawson since 1992 moving here from Birmingham, AL.
He was a member and past President of the Golden Kawanis Club and the Terrell Co. Historical Preservation Society; a member of the P.T. Schley Masonic Lodge No. 229, a member of the Scottish Rite and Hasan Shrine Temple of Albany. He was a volunteer driver for the Shriner's Hospital; a member of the Terrell Co. V.F.W. Post No. 5743, a member of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Frances B. Jett of Dawson; two sons, Terry and wife, Sandra Jett of Montgomery, AL, and Timothy and wife, Ondria Jett of Marietta; two sisters, Gail Bloomer of Fayetteville and Marie Dutcher of Huntsville, AL; brother, Jim Wigginton of Harselle, AL; and three grandchildren, Nicholas Jett of Montgomery, Samantha Jett and Caroline Jett, all of Marietta.

ARLINGTON - George Washington Lewis Jr., 83, of 14464 Hwy. 45, Arlington, died Saturday, January 25, 2003 at Palmyra Medical Centers in Albany.
A memorial graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles Poplin officiating.
Born May 16, 1919 in Early County, Mr. Lewis was the son of the late George Washington Lewis Sr. and Mary Ella Fincher Lewis. He was a retired farmer, who also was a life long resident of Rowena Community; and a member of Arlington United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Hartley Lewis of Arlington; a daughter, Gail Murchison of Hahira; and three grandchildren, Christopher Scott Murchison of Auburn, AL, Steven Andrew Murchison of Birmingham, AL, and Joseph Brian Murchison of Atlanta.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by a son, George Ritchie Lewis; a brother, Floyd Lewis; and two sisters, Ruth Lewis Burlett and Dorothee Lewis Harrell.

AMERICUS - C.R. Lindsey, 78, of 108 Lorraine Ave., Americus, died early Saturday morning, January 25, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus.
Mr. Lindsey, a native of Newton County, was born November 23, 1924, a son of the late Chester Dean Lindsey and Mary Pauline Culbreth Lindsey. His wife, Ruby Louise Storey Lindsey, preceded him in death on April 6, 1994.
Mr. Lindsey was the general superintendent for Reeves Construction Company in Americus for a number of years, and was a Baptist. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Americus Moose Lodge.
The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. today (Sunday). At other times, friends may call at the family residence.
